I don't get the same impression I have to say. I see more snobbery aimed towards Apple products by suggesting they are inferior and the people who buy them only do so for the brand, and have indeed myself been in that position a couple of times. I'm yet to find an iPhone owner who looks down on somebody else because of what phone model they use. Apple market simplicity and logic, rather than suggesting their customer base are a certain type of person in my view. I think internet discussion gave birth to what you are saying here rather than it being a reality. Again I think this is your impression rather than it being representative of what the mainstream think.

Sorry but i don't think snobbery that is aimed at apple buyers. It is more the ridicule of paying extra for the brand sticker.

Also I said on average not every apple buyer is a snob. It is well accepted that Apple users have higher brand loyalty and more passionate and willing to pay more for something that does less. Just this alone would lead to more snobbish outlook. I think the reality is more like this. You don't hear of anyone selling their kidney to buy a Samsung do you?

But it's not about paying extra just for a brand sticker is it? That is again an assumption and is a form of snobbery if it is ridiculed because of. Brand loyalty means nothing if the product is inferior and you wouldn't get millions of people buying inferior products regardless of how and who they are marketed at. I see the market offering many different products that satisfy different tastes. I don't look down on people who don't buy Apple because there is no superiority in buying what you like IMO.

In some countries, that's actually true. In much the same way Michael Kors or Chanel are considered status symbols, iPhones are sometimes considered in the same vein (since you do actually have to spend the $500-1000 it costs full price).

In the US where you can get a 16GB 5S for $0-100 on contract with carrier sales? Not so much.

Exact same reason I DON'T have an iPhone anymore

You don't want people to think you have good taste any more? lol

When I think of Michael Kors I always think of fairly cheap quartz fashion watches that people pay way too much for. I know they make way more than just watches but I collect watches so know a it about that. I guess the brand perception changes where ever you are in the world. In the UK and most of Europe the iPhone is simply a common phone. They may be a bit more expensive than other options but you see so many of them about, it's almost impossible to attempt to be snobby about it.

I didn't even know Michael Kors made watches. I was thinking more along the lines of bags and shoes and stuff. My aunt spends a considerable amount of money on those stuff. Personally, I've never gotten the appeal.

UK and Europe, sure. It should be easy to be able to afford the iPhone there. In countries where monthly minimum wage is $300 or less and a considerable number of the population is even making below that? Yup, the iPhone is probably a status symbol.

Maybe if this was 2007 or 2008? Not really....every person has a smart phone of their choosing these days, go down to the ghetto and if the people walking around their have nothing but shoes on sure as **** they'll pull out a smartphone from somewhere. EVERYONE has a smartphone and the iPhone seams to be just as common as other phones around where I live. I suppose it depends on your standards of what snob or wealth are though.....someone thought I was rich because I had an iPhone 4 for verizon on launch day when in reality I just know where to put my money for the things I want....I had some kids from the city think my house was a "mansion" because they had never been to the suburbs, its all perception....in countries where they don't subsidize probably a status symbol. I'm sure in some countries having clothes and food is a status symbol...again perception (and relevant to your surroundings).

I doubt normal clothes and food are since those are basic necessities. Granted, would you believe Gap is considered a luxury brand in some countries? You practically can't get anywhere in SoCal if you don't have a car but that's actually considered a status symbol in some countries (as long as it's not a junker).

Still owning all these stuff doesn't make you a snob. Only you can make you a snob.

I am wearing jeans and sneakers but I guess I turn into a snob the moment I use my iphone to call somebody, right? LOL

That doesn't really support the theory to own an iPhone means you are a snob though. In the situation you describe here, having any higher end smartphone would be a status symbol I would have thought.

I get the impression the OP is discussing countries where iPhone's experience greater sales and where there is a decent demographic of people in order to judge whether it is snobby or not. I would imagine in countries like America, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium etc etc, the iPhone is a common smartphone. I doubt when I use mine anybody even double takes and thinks 'wow, he's using an iPhone'. I don't doubt in countries where the standard of living is very low indeed, most expensive objects including the iPhone would be considered as status symbols. :)

lol...... This is so funny. I do find most people I know who are Android fan boys to be more snobs then Apple fan boys. And while I lean more towards Apple I have nothing against Android I try not to be a snob about liking Apple.

I don't think I'm a snob, I just think I have better taste.

LAWLS.. that's the spirit. :apple:

i don't really think it's what you wear, i think it's more of a perception thing on how you carry yourself towards others. that's the definition of snob.

It is just not possible for a device that has sold 500 Million units to have SNOB appeal.

like i said, i don't think its the number of sales... its the way people act towards non apple devices haha

I'm not saying that everyone who owns an iPhone is a snob. Please note I did post the following above:

Just saying that in some countries there are folks who do buy it for the brand recognition. In the US and other more affluent countries? Maybe back in 2007-2008 you'd get that reaction. Nowadays, not so much. Starting 2010, I've seen more people using iPhones instead of flip phones and Blackberries in malls and restaurants. It's actually only quite recently that I've seen more people using Androids.

Does less is relative. If by "does less" you mean supported by ios updates for 4 years? Just kind of works and keeps working. Multiple ways to get support for your device should it be needed. High resale value. High quality software; high quality hardware; top notch ecosystem.

If by "does less" you mean all of that than I agree.

In addition, by the expression "sell their kidney" you are trying to make a subtle dig at both the buyers of iphone and Samsung devices.

I thought those who think people buy only for the "badge" have disappeared from internet forums. Used to see that alot on car forums where observers said of buyers buying propellers or three pointed stars; "only buying for the badge"...like they really knew.

The thing is it's true. I have a cousin that's like that. I'm not saying all Apple buyers are like that. Just that some are. There's a reason why there are a lot of iPhone copycats in China.

No, I'm pretty sure that's a dig at Apple buyers.

So there are 70 million iphone users and your cousin is a badge hound and therefore there must be a lot of apple badge hounds. http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/

I'm pretty sure it's a dig at android buyers also.

Being a snob has nothing do with possessions, let alone the brand of your phone. I have met plenty of people that are snobs, regardless of their economic situation. It is an attitude, usually a crappy one. ;)

There is a strange economic pattern behind apple.

Before i learned about technology, I used a basic pc laptop. Then I thought that apple was the best tech computer thing out there, so I joined.

Then I learned that android is the best thing out there, cause you can do infinite things with it, and you are the ruler of the universe, and those with mac stuff are kinda advanced, but kinda not really.

So, yes, having an iphone is being a snob, but having an iphone also makes you part of the lesser because your stuff is formatted and you can't do nothing about it.
