iPhone 11 Pro Is Marques Brownlee right?

I watched the video and I have to say I don't disagree with him.

Here's my $.02, first, I think the Pro moniker is plain silly and confusing. Its just a smartphone and in everyway is not any more capable then any other smartphone. Its not a phone that will give professionals new functionality or a leg up. With that said, if they are going to market this as a true "pro" experience then they largely whiffed on features. The better battery is a plus but what else is there? the bighter screen? The matte back?

Here is the video, where he said that he‘snit an iOS user

So first, that video is from six years ago.

Secondly, He said “I’m not a big iOS user”. He never says he doesn’t use iOS. He has always used iOS devices. He simply prefers android.

Again, that doesn’t make one a troll.

If you’d like to see the full review that your clip came from (which was an overall positive review of the 5s), you can look here. Right before he says that he isn’t a big iOS user, he praises the design and build quality of the phone.

Watch his video below. He is right about the things missing that would have really made the 11 Pro a “pro” phone. I’m sure some of these things will come next year with the redesign. I wonder though if Apple didn’t know where to go with naming after XS and XR so decided to bite the bullet and pull out the “pro” nomenclature this year.

I had s similar differing thought, but due to lower sales of the XS compared to other previous models, personally, I feel Apple is using the Pro name as marketing to get people to buy and upgrade. The camera may be classified as Pro, but everything else is pure 11 or a someone posted XSS.

fast charging isnt a new feature, all what's new is it comes in the box its the same as the other phones and most people already have a fast charger

It probably tore impressive bean counter Tim apart on the inside to cave
To the usb-c to lightning and 18w combo in box with the pro iPhones

He probably went “thermonuclear” with the accounting department, the same way Jobs did about Android “copying” all his stuff

You had me with "He probably went thermonuclear" hahaha

I struggle to see how calling it “pro” is going to upsell people. Especially when the 11 has nearly all of the features and is $50 cheaper than the XR was last year. The only reason I’m getting a pro is because I prefer the OLED display and thinner bezels.

I doubt it. Most iPhone users are probably using whatever came in the box. They’re not techies. They expect Apple to figure it out for them.

Why you’re defending him ???

Why did the thread title change from “Marques is right” to “is Marques right?” Overnight haha

The original post is original poster’s opinion not an open ended thing

There are actually people that will buy anything, for example Louis Vuitton Limited Edition. People will read that Pro branding and buy it without knowing what makes it Pro.

I didn’t realize one word was going to cause so much grief. I think a lot of people keep thinking these devices are marketed specifically towards their niche, which they aren't.

I didn't know Shirley. Who is she?

I have a Pro-ish camera in a Nikon D5xxx series DSLR. Maybe it doesn’t do all the new tech things this does OR fit in my pocket, but it has a myriad of lenses.

And I have an iPhone X with good battery health that has a good camera and a lot of the software features of this phone.

So why would I upgrade at $700-800 after trade in or whatever the exact number is for a new camera. It’s my phone. I use it for way more stuff. Telling me to buy a new $1000-1400 camera that also makes calls, runs apps and surfs the web the same as my current phone seems a bit much.

When Apple renamed the 13" Unibody MacBook to MacBook Pro in 2009, what was there to justify the name change? Faster processor, better battery life, and a FireWire port. Nothing you wouldn't expect in a basic incremental update to an existing product.

To Apple, "Pro" is really nothing more than a marketing word for high-end. The fact is there are many different kinds of professionals, and it'd be foolish to assume that any Apple product is or isn't suitable for professional use.

Yes, except Schiller specifically mentioned that pros can now get their work done, which is kind of ridiculous, since pros have been using smart phones before apple decided to append the word pro on their phone. The iPhone 11 pro is no more of a pro phone as the iPhone Xs and any other android phone

It's called Pro-Gate for 2019.

You pulled that video out from about 5 years ago. Give me a small break. He is an iOS user now and uses the iPad Pro as well as MacBook Pro's.

Dude you are totally lost here, give it up and move on. He does use iOS and has stated as much many times. He also uses Android and many other brands of tech.

Well it's their biggest/longest lasting/best phone and arguably the best phone of any manufacturer period ... and that alone makes it Pro in some respects. The big battery life of the latest models does a lot for me to advance the idea. Of course they could do more with it.

It's certainly more "Pro" than the macbook pro line or the Mac Pro 2013, which as far as usage of the "Pro" moniker goes have been complete embarrassments. Less RAM, major thermal throttling, poor connectivity options, crippling delays between updates, dysfunctional keyboard design, unwanted touch bar, etc etc.

I think my biggest issue is they clearly have wanted to market a phone for the masses with a phone for the 'tech-savvy' for a while now.

iPhone 8 - iPhone X
iPhone XR - iPhone XS/XS Max
iPhone 11 - iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max

I think the reason we're all wary of using a pro name now is that the X and XS in their years were not considered "pro." Now all of a sudden the same phones in those slots are and without significant changes. I think a pro-motion display really could have added just one more thing to push it over.

Then again, everyone has complained for years already that Apple's "Pro" moniker isn't warranted across the MacBook and iPad lines.

Apple pulled the marketing lever again, we saw this with iPhone 8. Not enough new features? Upgrade the name.

What are Pro features? Triple camera, OLED, 18W charging, bigger battery? Those features are familiar on many other phones.

Apple stole everything from Android phones while making it sounds during their keynote that they created something new.

They even literally copied the exact same camera setup as the Samsung Galaxy S10+.

The only good thing from this refresh is the $699 iPhone 11.

Apple has done something impossible this year.

They’ve basically completely discredited the term ‘Pro’ by calling the latest iPhone it. Because theirs absolutely nothing Pro about the iPhone 11 Pro.

And they have also totally credited the term Pro by placing the moniker on its new Mac Pro, a machine built for actual professionals and for heavy work loads.

Gotta give them credit for it, Apple marketing at its finest.

I like his suggestion about having a more "Pro" set of camera features in the camera app vs. having to go into settings where the functionality is still limited.

My idea would be for the iPhone Pro camera app to look and function exactly like all the other camera apps until you press an M button for a manual mode which would allow you to change shutter speed, aperture, ISO, RAW/JPEG, access video recording options, etc.

Yet they will sell more phones than anybody else. Marketing works? Every company can market and market well if they wish to. But is it working out for them? Now with this cheaper 699 starting price point, a lot of companies should be afraid. Especially the companies that specializes in cheap and low end phones such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiami, Huawei (to some degree). Because that's all they had..."price it cheap strategy" or otherwise their existence will become questionable because why buy a Xiami or a Huawei when they can buy an iPhone 11, XR, 8 or a Samsung A70 at the same price? Doesn't make sense. Lets see how they play out now Apple is headed for cheaper models.

Every company in existence is free to market their products. Its not an Apple only thing. This would mean that apple is winning all fronts then? Making good products and selling a lot of them as well? Due to marketing? ALL companies are free to market their products.
