$1099 for a "Pro" iPhone with 64GB storage doesn't sit well with me. But then again, I won't be buying it...

The price for 64gb is a bit outrageous but what really gets me is that with all those lenses and high quality picture and video, you can't really do much with 64gb. I don't get it.

People have been saying this every single year since the iPhone 6.

It’s time to accept that phone technology has plateaued for a while. Just like with cars... New models release every year, with slight improvements from the previous year. Major redesigns don’t happen for a number of years.

It’s ridiculous to expect that you should feel the need to upgrade every single year. Instead, maybe just realize that phones stay relevant longer nowadays.
While you're right that people have been saying this pretty much every year since the iPhone 6, the technology hasn't plateaued to a significant degree. It certainly has somewhat, but Apple is deliberately holding features back, such as the pro motion display in the iPhone.

If they really wanted to push the envelope they could have had it by now. 64GB base storage for $1099 is a perfect example. Storage tech hasn't plateaued, Apple chose not to make it better to increase their profit margins and compensate for tariffs. Same with USB-C. They are saving it for next year to get people to upgrade then.

Exactly, especially given that it's more like 56GB or so.

Lol the 8 was the 7S. Anyone arguing that is insane. It’s the exact same phone with wireless charging. And the X was released for the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone. Outside of that it’s S models every year and there is ZERO reason to think any different.

I can argue that the iPhone 11 is actually the iphone XSS and the real iPhone 11 will come out next year by that logic too.

There's nothing Pro about having OLED screen. If that were the case people that have OLED TV are pro TV viewer? :D

In the end, I find the term 'Pro' to differentiate the more expensive models from the more cost affordable iPhone 11 model and little else. Adding a telephoto lens and the fact the display is OLED hardly equate to the more expensive phones being professional, or in other words, exceptionally better than the more affordable model.

I think the most telling case for this is that they chose to discuss at length all of the capabilities and refinements of the A13 bionic chip during the presentation of the Pro models. Why, when that very same chip is in the iPhone 11? I feel they knew they needed something to fill the Pro presentation other than the camera. If you noticed, Phil mentioned ''new design'' when talking about the Pro. Aside from the matte glass, the only design changes were a camera square, movement of the apple logo, and removal of branding verbiage. Well, that happened with the iPhone 11 too but he never said 'it' had a new design. I honestly feel like they were self-aware that very little was being added to the Pro model over the regular 11 and scrambled to make it appear the opposite.

And it will work, because most purchasers don't live inside these forums, didn't watch the keynote, and will notice two things: Price and Name.

So out of curiosity what innovative features are other manufacturers doing that would make you go to them?

I don’t feel like I’ve seen anything groundbreaking from anyone other than folding screens and I’m not convinced that’s something that will catch on.

Honestly I do like how the competition have done better without the size of the notch. Some of the phone designs in general I have just found more aesthetically pleasing - which usually was an area which Apple dominated.

Android also innovated the bi-directional charging first and were the first to get onto 5G. Android devices were also first to enable under glass Fingerprint. Google Home/Alexa, although not perfect, seem damn near perfect in comparison to Homekit and Siri I must say having tried them at my house. There are a few other things but hopefully that answers your question.

You’re just wishful thinking. Apple is going to keep the exact same model they have this year and it will be called the iPhone 11S Pro Max (what a name). It will have all of the features that this years model purportedly was supposed to have. They aren’t dumb and aren’t going to let their new design of the 11 Pro go to waste after just one year.

And remember, people were saying the exact same thing last year. “This is an S Year, next years redesign will blow everyone away.”

MKBHD is an android troll, he never used any iPhone!

LOL, that absolutely isn’t true. Do you honestly think Apple invites Android trolls to their Keynotes? They know exactly who they are inviting and he uses an iPhone all the time.

Actually you are wrong, we all saw 2019 as an "S" year and many have been predicting a real upgade in 2020 for a long time now, not 2019.

I don’t agree with you, look at all his tweets from the last 6 months. All his tweets are send from an android phone. His daily driver is oneplus 7 pro. And in one of his videos he said, that he‘s not iOS user

If he wasn’t an iPhone user he would t always carry around an iPhone which he says he does

To me MKBHD is right about two aspects. The telephoto camera should have more than 2x zoom and the refresh rate on the screen. OnePlus 7 Pro has 90 Hz and the Pixel 4 will have 90 Hz also. Then add in some of the Android gaming phones that go up to 120 Hz.
I would place the telephoto zoom as more important to the Pro label over the screen.
I’ll also be curious of the amount of RAM in the phone also.

This is true. While MKBHD does carry an iPhone with him at all times, he stated this in a few videos, it’s his secondary phone. Android phones are always his daily driver main phone. A few other YouTube reviewers have done videos on it. Every time he’s asked what his main phone is it’s an Android. That doesn’t make him an Android troll. He prefers Android devices but it’s not like he doesn’t constantly point out their flaws.

Agree with you on that. I've got a 65" OLED in my home theater... and it's utterly amazing for UHD programming. My movie disc library is over 1000 titles.

On the phone though I just don't care. I guess that's why I went with the 8 Plus and am now upgrading to the 11. OLED on a phone just isn't a deal maker for me.

With 90 hz it would not be possible to have 1200 nits! The 90hz refresh rate reduces the display brightness"

His daily driver is typically an android phone, but he always carries an iPhone. He also wears an Apple Watch much of the time.

Do you honestly believe simply preferring android makes one an “android troll”? That doesn’t seem to make sense to me.

They'll take a little mocking for the usage of "pro." I still say no professional is picking up an iPhone as their first choice for photography or video. Maybe iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Plus, and iPhone 11 Max would have been better but at the end of the day it's just a name. Get what works for you.

Apple pulled the marketing lever again, we saw this with iPhone 8. Not enough new features? Upgrade the name.

What are Pro features? Triple camera, OLED, 18W charging, bigger battery? Those features are familiar on many other phones.
People always rag on the 8, but it had a much more robust feature list than any of the iPhones being released this year. The only thing it didn’t have was a new design. Everything else was revamped.

Isn't a lack of innovation in batteries also holding things back? It seems like at this point there needs to be a balance between features and battery life.
