Im extremely bad at math but was convinced of this:

Go compare and see who's right, i have no idea to be honest with you.

I honestly don't care or know and think these posts are ridiculous.. by that post though...

"so, the 8+ screen size is 12.89 square inches and the X is 12.76 square inches
a difference of 0.13 sq.in.. to visualize that, it's a 9mm square.."

So either way, we are still debating a difference of 0.13 square inches or a 9mm square? Can we all just agree to move on from these posts?

I dont see that your math deduct the black area and if you notice in some APPS the edges on both side of the black is blacked out now you should measure the screen

What black area? The black bars for apps that aren't updated for the X? Honestly, I don't really care which is bigger. It's like a 1% different either way, nothing to worry about.

Im just curious at what screen would be the biggest. I guess that it stands that the X is 1% smaller.

You're limited by the shortest side of the screen. In the case of the iPhone X and the Plus models, the iPhone X's shortest side (width) is SHORTER than the Plus. Therefore, content such as videos, photos, etc., are going to be smaller on the iPhone X when compared with a Plus model iPhone.

The iPhone X's width is marginally larger than the non-plus iPhone models. This is quite similar to years ago when Apple released the iPhone 5 -- the phone got taller. Same thing here with the iPhone X -- the phone is taller. It is also slightly wider. Slightly.

You know, if I didn't have to work on Friday, it would be fun to go to an Apple store to see the people coming out with their iPhone Xs, shaking their head and saying: "But they said the screen would be bigger... :(."

On a serious note, companies need to stop using descriptions like 5.5" or 4.7" now that the phones don't have the same ratio anymore. Some people can't understand how a 5.5" phone can be bigger than a 5.8" phone. We'll probably have to switch to 'usable screen area in square inches' now.

I agree and confirm. Just tried my favorite game on new iPhone X and it's a much smaller display. First of all, it doesn't use all of the height or width of the screen. The iPhone X also does not reduce the physical phone width by reducing the side bezel, it's the same as the iphone 6s plus. It reduces the phone width by taking it away from the viewable area. Totally disappointed in this, I feel bamboozled. I thought I was getting a smaller phone with bigger screen and it was Apple "MAGIC" that made it happen. Well the lights just came on right after the show and I now see it was just a cheap trick! Not to mention that the top of the screen isn't all there, it's mostly cut off by the front camera / face id components, but I was smart enough to realize that ahead of time. I just countered that with the elimination of the home button that makes up for it. What I didn't calculate is the diagonal size of the screen to get the true picture size when holding the phone sideways. True screen size as it is when you are watching a movie is 4.75" diagonal, I just measured it. 6s Plus is 5.5 inches so I lost 3/4" viewable area. Total let down...
[doublepost=1510868388][/doublepost]I guess this is how they are going to get me to buy a new phone 12 months from now, iPhone X Plus will be announced soon enough. All strategically planned by the Big Apple. Bastards.

Try a game that's optimized for iPhone X like Alto's Adventure, Marvel's Contest of Champions, Drag'n Boom, OceanHorn or Middle Earth - Shadow of War, Into the Dead 2 among others. They all make use of the full screen. This is the same as other traditional periods such as moving from he 5s to the 6 or the 4s to the 5.

But even if they make use of the full screen, aren't we always running into a problem due to the rounder corners?

Rounded corners and cropped content if we are talking any video that is 16:9.
