Comparing computers to cars. Porsche has at least 10x the price tag used, requires a drivers license and insurance. How many graphic designers and photographers do you see driving a Porsche?

10X the price tag of WHAT?
Very good designers drive Porsches and even nicer cars. I know a few. I have a friend who does big Pharm design work and she drives a Cayman S, so I don't get your point.
My point in that you should not expect apple to cater to your specific needs.

The new MBP is not a dud, but it has short comings. Which put me off buying it. I'm waiting for the next release in what a few months time?

The new machines are awesome. And if the newer ones are worth the upgrade I can trade up for a small amount of cash...so why miss out on the fun?

There's always a "better" whatever coming soon and life is short. :)

I buy once, and keep it forever. I don't mess with silly sell-to-upgrades.

I absolutely love my tbMBP 13" - it is, without a doubt, the best laptop I've ever owned.

I really like the keyboard; the trackpad is superb; the display is simply gorgeous and the 1TB SSD is ridiculously fast

On top of that, it's incredibly light and feels solid and well built.

Before I got it, I had a top of the line Surface Book that looked like a brick compared to it and (despite having similar specs) felt sluggish compared to the MBP (I've since got rid of it as I simply never used it after I got my MBP)

I will say, though, that I really don't see the point in the touch bar: It's not that it's bad or makes my life more difficult, but it just doesn't really add anything of value. I got the TB version because of the other upgrades it includes (faster processor, faster memory and more ports) so don't really mind about the TB itself being largely superfluous

How happy about your battery life? How many hours did you get? i5 i7?

I see, you haven't played Pac Man on your TB..................................

Nah – the shortcomings all turned out to be fake news written by people who didn't even own the device. It's the best laptop ever made, hands down.

I know a janitor who drives a Ferrari. Suddenly everybody wants to be a janitor.

It seems like a lot of things have been blown out of proportion, the problem is most people only post on these forums when there are problems making it look very negative indeed. Sure there are unhappy people not even Apple will be able to please all of the people all of the time.

I do have a question tho, is 8GB Ram enough in the 13" with Touch Bar or is it always better to upgrade to 16GB Ram? I've been thinking of picking up a base model with 512GB SSD but not sure if I should upgrade that Ram and or processor.

Depends on your usage, what apps will you be using?

I would be buying one to replace my current 2011 MacBook Pro which has served me really well (through university and into my work life) I always have safari open, often with multiple tabs (around 5 at a time) i use Pages everyday (I'm a writer so i rely on word processing a lot) i also edit a podcast every month and edit photographs that i take on my iPhone 7 nothing to professional thats more for my own hobby, i often use the editing tools in the photo's app to do that or the Adobe app on my iPad Pro with Apple Pencil as it can pinpoint exact areas to remove things. I also have iTunes open sometimes to listen to my Apple Music but most the time i do that on my iPhone.

I have been looking at the base model with either 256GB or the 512GB SSD 13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

LOL...I missed that post!

He doesn't upgrade? No need to worry about USB ports on a TRS-80 or Atari 800.

I dated a gal in HS that had a TRS-80. I remember loading a Pong type game from cassette. I am pretty sure she doesn't still have it and more importantly doesn't still use it. "I buy once, and keep it forever." when it comes to tech, probably just makes you a horder :)

"Enough" is really sort of relative to what you're coming from, what software you're running and what you're used to. If you have the extra money, I always say get the most you can afford.

However, I was coming from a 2011 MacBook Air with 4gb RAM (am still shocked how well it ran with "only" 4gb). I upgraded to the 13" tbMBP with 8gb RAM. I run Photoshop and Bridge daily and it runs fine. I have no issues with the speed. I'm a professional photographer.

Yup...same here. Using top tier Nikon DSLRs and software. No issue with the 13" touch bar with the 8gb. I also have the 15" and it's a bit faster. It has 16 GB of course, but it seems that the processor gets the credit for snappier handling of RAW files.

Yea i'm looking at getting the 13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, i was leaning towards the 512GB SSD. I do multiple things on my Mac, Safari i have multiple tabs open at once, i also have pages open, use Photo's app for some simple editing of photo's took on my iPhone 7 Plus (altho i have been looking at getting Pixelmator for the Mac) i also do things like split screen and have picture and picture on while I'm working.

I sometimes feel like I made a mistake in buying the base 15". I fell into the trap of thinking I need 16gb of ram in my portable to run illustrator, photoshop, and some web dev apps (brackets, sass, atom), and for what I do on the go 8 would be plenty, and the 13" more portable.

Ultimately it depends on what you're doing. I still have 2 days to make up my mind on the 15"/13". I'm honestly not sure what to do.

But unless you're doing a lot of heavy lifting, I'd say 8gb is probably enough, only my opinion based on my usage.

The fact that I am still using a 2010 mbpro that periodically reboots itself indicates that imho, yes, they are duds at worst, overpriced and underwhelming at best. I find myself perusing ASUS machines on Amazon when nobody is looking or plotting another hackintosh construct.
