I said every VERIZON phone is required to be unlocked. It was the condition for them to get spectrum. This is the only carrier required to sell unlocked phones. Even their "on contract" phones are unlocked.
I can confirm that the Verizon iPhone 6 is also unlocked. I bought one today at the Apple store, and just to be safe, before I even turned it on I removed the verizon sim card and threw it in the trash. I then put in a T-Mobile SIM and restored from backup and confirmed that I was able to make calls and use LTE on T-Mobile. I then put in an AT&T sim card and did the same thing.

So my conclusion is that both T-Mobile and the Verizon versions are unlocked. I prefer to have the Verizon version because as far as I know the T-Mobile version does not have built-in CDMA capabilities so whereas the Verizon version does. This would only matter if you ever want to use the phone on Verizon, or if you want to sell it on ebay to people who have Verizon as their carrier.

Luckily for all you guys, I'm your guinea pig.

I purchased a iPhone 6 128GB from a T-Mobile store, and yes I payed in full. I tried putting an ATT sim in without ever turning on the phone and it was locked.

Sorry to everyone. Most of all, sorry to me.

So return it and buy the tmobile phone from APPLE STORE. Guaranteed unlocked.

It is Locked purchased directly from T-Mobile.

Coleman2010 from Brazil (or going to Btazil last year)? Didn't we have this same conversation with the TM 5s a year ago? I put in my Tim sim in Italy and you used yours in Brazil........and they both worked fine. Right?

----------

Just a followup....only ATT phones were left in the configurations I wanted this morning. Bought 2. Both are happily working with T-mobile SIM cards. So yes ATT phones bought Device Only at the Apple Store are unlocked again this year. So I don't believe anyone who took my advice will be disappointed in me.

Okay bruiser I admit you were right. Got my TM 6 this morning. Put in China Telecom sim, Tim Italy sim, 3 England sim, Orange Germany sim and my Australia Vodaphone sim........all worked perfectly.

confirmed T-Mobile iPhone 6 works with ATT

Just got my iPhone 6 T-Mobile. Took the T-Mobile SIM out before powering it on. After powering it on, I inserted the ATT nano SIM from my 5S, and the phone activated and connected to the ATT network.

Confirmed

I just got my iPhone 6, ordered from the Apple Store online. I popped in my AT&T sim, connected to computer and it came up and was already showing AT&T LTE. It asked to update carrier settings in iTunes, I said no, and then set up as new and did a restore on the iPhone right away. Never got a "congrats you're unlocked" message. I restored it a few more times, once through the phone, and another through the pc, still no message. I grabbed my 5, that AT&T unlocked last week and didn't even get to restoring it before it said it was unlocked. I did swap in the tmobile sim and it shows up, so I believe its unlocked, but still no message.

I purchased a Verizon iPhone 6 from the Apple store for full price and popped in my AT&T sim and worked right away. Plan on getting a T-Mobile Sim tomorrow and trying that too.

Source?

Prove it.

I hope you're trolling . Ask T-Mobile. **Rolling Eyes**

Any iPhone bought Device Only from Apple Retail is unlocked except for Sprint.

Anyone try turning on phone with t-mobile, then switching to ATT?

Guys, I did buy the T-Mobile 64GB iPhone 6 Gold from the Apple Store for full price and the sales rep automatically turned my phone on with the T-Mobile Sim.

However, I switched to my Canadian Virgin Mobile Sim and it automatically connects to AT&T in the States.

So it does work with Canadian SIM even after it was turned on with the T-Mobile SIM. I can't say if it would work with an AT&T Sim now, I don't have one to try it.

Got my iPhone 6 and it's works with AT&T sim well. No issues with it. I am very much satisfied with this phone. Luckily I didn't order iPhone 6+. It would have been so big for me.
Thanks to everyone who suggested me to get T-Mobile contract free phone.

Which SIM did you throw in first, if you don't mind me asking you.

I was wondering if the AT&T SIM worked for anyone after they turned their phone on with the default T-Mobile SIM.

i got the TMO contract free, with ATT sim in it working perfectly fine. However I got a text message from ATT telling me I need to go to ATT to get a SIM card to be able to use all the services. Whats going on...

So, I finally gotten my iPhone 6 (T-Mobile non-contract from Apple Store). It came WAY later than I had anticipated (past 7 PM), but I got it.

Anyway, I was able to activate with my Straight Talk SIM without any problem. Once everything is running, I swapped the SIM to my Swiss prepaid SIM. It is recognized just fine (although it is roaming to AT&T, but I knew that). The phone number shows up for FaceTime is correct for the SIM.

I also have a Japanese prepaid SIM. The iPhone 6 isn't complaning for that, which is what I expected to do. Since this Japanese SIM will NOT work outside of Japan, I get "No Service", but that's what it is supposed to do.

In the end, I should be fine next time when I go Switzerland or Japan (two places that I will likely go to).

I received the same text message, I'm planning to go to AT&T tomorrow and just pick up a new SIM I hear it's free, and I don't see any harm in getting a new SIM...

Hi Grahamdini! Can you use the AT&T LTE data on your new iPhone 6? My iPhone told me that I need to ask the carrier for an activation.

Yea I can, I got a text from AT&T saying I should get a new sim to take advantage of new features, but I plan to go to cricket soon, so screw them (even though att owns cricket). I tried to upload a scree shot but I'm out, and it's not working. But I'm def seeing LTE. I did end up updating carrier settings.

Thanks guys for all the helpful information on the unlocked phone situation... Because of the feedback I just ordered my iPhone 6 (64gb) and it should be arriving at my location outside the U.S. in around 3 weeks.

In the end I don't care if it's truly unlocked or not, as long as I can use it with my SIM card I'm happy!

The order you insert the SIM cards does no matter. Unlocked is unlocked.

Was supposed to get my TMO unlocked phone yesterday but I was in the backyard and didn't hear the UPS man knock! arrrrhhh!! He left a note that they would make another attempt on Monday, the current status shows it's back at destination scan. Can I go there an personally pick up on Saturday? What's the deal? or do I need to wait till Monday? (apologies, new to the country so don't know how it works here!).
