It was great this year too when Apple put out new MacBook Pros and iPad Pros.My comment was implying that 326 was great 4-5 years ago...but now it’s lacking compared to the Plus/X/Max and other competitors.

All their latest high end computers and iPads have a PPI lower than the Xr. And you can bet the ones announced this month will too.Apple didn’t release any new iPad Pro’s this year, yet. The MacBook was revamped in July. They Did release the 2018 iPad back in March however.

And yet when I view the iPad pro up close it's still beautiful and clear. There's absolutely no reason to think the Xr screen will be anything short of great.Big difference between 326 PPI on a device that has 14 square inches of display area vs 45 of the 10.5” Pro.
A 77” 4K tv is only 57 PPI. But that display becomes retina at 5ft. Not many people wanna sit that close to it.
My thoughts precisely. And yet when I view the iPad pro up close it's still beautiful and clear. There's absolutely no reason to think the Xr screen will be anything short of great.
My iPhone 7 Plus is clearer on small text than my iPad Air 2 at the same viewing distance. The iPad Air 2 is the same 264 ppi pixel density as the iPad Pro.And yet when I view the iPad pro up close it's still beautiful and clear. There's absolutely no reason to think the Xr screen will be anything short of great.
Indeed. My 4K 65" OLED has a pixel density of 68 ppi. It looks totally awesome at my 7.5 foot seating distance. At 12 inches though, it looks like utter garbage. A 6.1" iPhone with a 68 ppi screen would have a screen resolution of about 376x174. Ouch.A 77” 4K tv is only 57 PPI. But that display becomes retina at 5ft. Not many people wanna sit that close to it.
Two words: viewing distance. If 326 ppi wasn't fine, no one would be buying iPad Pro(264 ppi) or MacBook Pro(227 ppi). People whining about 326ppi being too low are nuts.
And like I said, when I hold an iPad or MacBook pro as close as I'd hold a phone, it's crystal clear. Again, thinking Apple is going to release an ugly screen on the Xr is foolish beyond words. And this is backed up by the fact that there's not a single impressions video from the Apple Event where someone comments on how bad the screen looks. None. Two words: viewing distance.

The problem is there is a lot of misinformation posted in this thread, the most glaring of which is people trying to use iPads' lower pixel density as justification for lower pixel densities in a phone. Can we just put this to bed? We'll see when XR hits the market. Some will see (or imagine) the fuzzy text and some won't know the difference. Ultimately, up to each end user to decide.
If you actually look at your iPad critically, you'll see that the default font sizes aren't even the same as on your phone. It's not a direct comparison. As we have already mentioned, having larger font sizes is more forgiving of lower pixel densities, even if you hold the iPad at the same distance as the phone (and people often / usually don't).And like I said, when I hold an iPad or MacBook pro as close as I'd hold a phone, it's crystal clear. Because it suggests they don't know what the heck they are talking about, quite frankly. But why is that a problem?
I'm not saying it's garbage either. I'm just saying the Plus screens will still be be better, and noticeably so for some (but not all) people.I find it utterly ridiculous the amount of scrutiny we are putting onto the screen of the XR when no one other than tech reviewers and those invited to the Apple Keynote in September have seen it.
From all the videos I've watched (and believe me I've watched nearly all of the hands on vids) there was not one word uttered about the screen being 'garbage' or not very good.
20-20 vision is average vision... for a 50-60 year old. Those saying the OLED screen is better... ummm well no ****. But I'd expect it to be for £300 more.
I think this is a very obvious example of people being bored waiting for the XR to drop. I know I am.
I have an XS Max currently and I'm a tech nerd, but that bad boy is going straight on eBay the minute my yellow XR is ordered because I absolutely love the look of the phone. I also think the size looks spot on and the price is obviously nicer than that of the Max.
I have a 5S which is a work phone and an iPod Touch 6th gen - both with LCD screens and they are perfectly fine when looking at anything on them. My eye sight is 20-20.
If you're looking for jagged edges, you'll likely not see them. What you'll see is font softness on small fonts. I can see these quite easily.I've just compared my Max and 5s screens and when pixel peeping and looking up close nothing looks 'jagged'. The Max text pops a little more but tbh I'd put that down to sheer screen size and not pixels.
That's good for you, but not good for everyone. Just because you're fine with it doesn't mean everyone should be, especially when we're talking about a phone that costs $749 minimum.Whilst stretching a lower PPI screen over a larger areas as in the XS may result in a small loss of clarity - I do not care.
I will have a yellow iPhone. I am ecstatic about this fact.
Bye.

But it's moot anyway, since people who wear glasses will usually have 20-20 vision or even better than 20-20 vision.

I can see this consistently with my 7 Plus over the SE or 8.

Here we go:20-20 vision is average vision... for a 50-60 year old.
But it's moot anyway, since people who wear glasses will usually have 20-20 vision or even better than 20-20 vision.
In fact, it is very common for young adults and those with corrective lenses to have 20/15 vision, which is significantly better than 20/20 vision. Some may even have 20/13 vision, but that's more uncommon, and 20/10 vision is much less common.
Theoretically, perfect human vision is 20/5.
tl;dr:
20/20 vision is average visual acuity for a middle-aged to older person, with the expectation that someone who wears glasses or who is say 20 years old may have 20/15 vision, which is better than 20/20.
This is so wrong, I do not even know where to start...
Saying that you are noticing pixels at 326 PPI on 4.8 inch display is BS. Sorry but it is... Fonts are gonna look same on 326 PPI and 526 PPI, unless you are looking at it via magnifying glass, or you are hawk or eagle or something.
But since you are a human (I assume)...
...any further conversation is pointless.
I’m honestly not trying to troll, but I can tell the difference.
Maybe it’s minimal, but the text is a lot crisper for me on the Plus (and definitely the XS Max) compared to the 8.
Neither of those sound like negatives. Some people prefer OLED some prefer LCD. A common complaint of Apple users before Apple used OLED screens was that the colors on Samsung phones were too cartoonish. Not worried. The problem is there is a lot of misinformation posted in this thread, the most glaring of which is people trying to use iPads' lower pixel density as justification for lower pixel densities in a phone.

BTW, several previews comment or suggest that the XR screen doesn't look as quite good as the OLED models. CNBC prefers the colours of the OLED, Tom's describes the XR's screen as just "fairly" sharp.
But why is that a problem?

But someone on the Internet is wrong aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
Sad really, I’m more the sure the XR will look damn good, far better then people ‘think’ it will be. I was consdering the yellow one hmmm..
Haha - too true.
And I am really excited for it. If people are that bothered about the screen, don't buy it or wait until you see it.
Funny how some are saying "enjoy your 6 year old screen" when if Apple put this in the X from the get go it'd be the best thing ever.
Yeap, I was at the Apple store on Monday, spent a long time playing with the XS Max, I have my screens set to zoomed mode and bold text, and in my eyes the 8 Plus looked FAR better then the XS Max! It was clearer and easier to read. So I’m really not worried about the XR and am looking forward to it, the XR will also be a worlds first with a bezelless LCD screen using brand new techeven though the uninformed claim it’s 6 year old tech haha.
It will also be nice to buy a 128GB storage phone too.
