So I went to the Apple Store, and I have opened 2 different 7 pluses. They are ALL yellow compared to my 6s plus, which was already slightly warmer compared to my 6 plus. But the 7 plus: I can't even call this warm. It's just yellow. On ALL display models in store and out of the box.

And the thing is, they all have different variations. One was consistently yellow all over, but pretty dark. One was lighter, -'d almost ok on the top 40% of the screen, but got darker at the bottom. One store display model was yellow with a green tint.

So you can clamor all you want about white point. I don't doubt its different. But if it is, it should not vary so much from phone to phone. That is the same manufacturing problem with the screen maker we see every year.

Was the 7 plus supposed to be brighter too? Because that is objectively not the case compared to the 6s plus. Definitely dimmer
Yellow is normal for the 7+ its a warmer natural color (confirmed by 3 genius bar technicians and apple support) the discoloration and pixel color differences are not.

:( my bad luck. iPad Air first month uneven. rmbp 15early first month uneven, iPhone6 half year good except to slight yellow, iPhone7 first month uneven. :(:(:(:(
Did your replacement arrive from PA, i thought it would've shipped from China? I guess they have their own stock in the US now?

Here's my 7+ screen - Looks fine to me. It's actually a cooler shade than what the iPad camera is showing.

Here's my 7+, week 37. Don't mind the color temperature; Night Shift is on. Looks pretty even to me.

What is really funny: I took some pics in a dark room of the 7 Plus screen. The pinkish tint is not visible on pics at all! But: there is a yellow tint visible at the bottom of the screen (about 1/3). In real I can hardly see this yellow tint and it does not bother me at all.

Cameras unless done right aren't going to capture the screen as your eyes see it. Also, although I don't know for sure, I suspect different people are sensitive to different uniformity issues. For me any yellow stands out like a sore thumb.

sometimes I think I am too picky...... that's is my screen now( with iPad Air), and the real one is more obvious than the picture.
BUT, I see many screens on the forums. Others are more serious than mine.....

I agree. They could put screens on these phones that were perfect to the naked eye. However, they have much less restrictive QC than that. I can only surmise that the reason is that most people don't notice or don't care.

I often wonder whether my eyes can see color better or pick up on these things more. Or maybe it's just because I'm a perfectionist, while most people have lower standards.

Who knows! It does make it annoying to buy Apple products though!

Anyway, looks like after going through 6 phones I found one without yellow on the bottom. LOL

I think you're speculating on this. Uniformity is an inherent problem with LCDs, which is why various panel blocking algorithms were used by so many manufacturers to even things out. It's probably not feasible to produce these things in sufficient quantities with perfectly uniform displays, so their pass/fail tolerance is looser than you would prefer. That isn't being a perfectionist. You're simply demanding something other than what they actually produce.

Out of curiosity, how did you order and return so many phones without getting blacklisted?

I suspect it has less to do with producing them in sufficient quantities and more to do with keeping their profits up. Personally I'd be happy to pay more for a better screen. Apple could offer the option for a pro screen or something for 200$ more.

Blacklisted? They have a two week return policy. I just took advantage of that. I didnt have any problems. 4 phones I did online and 2 at the Apple Store. Maybe that helped! Anyway, I got away with it. And I managed to get a very uniform screen. It's not perfect, but it's nearly perfect. I'm happy I did it. Love my phone now.

can you put your screen here? I am going to Apple Store tomorrow and still hesitate whether to replace...I want some reference...thanks....

I want to know whether there IS perfect screen....

This strategy was tested with desktop displays at one time or another. Ultimately other companies used proprietary methods of panel blocking to improve upon this. See one example here and another here toward the bottom. Some companies also apply tighter tolerances to their more expensive lines, so panels rejected for use in one may still show up in the other.

I don't think Apple could pull off the pro screen thing from a marketing perspective. It would make the normal ones look bad, and people would question whether the others are all garbage. The strategies above make far more sense, but they yield slightly worse black levels. A decade ago that was an issue in IPS panels. Now the typical contrast is quite high relative to the content displayed, so I don't think it matters at all.

Many companies will stop selling to you if you frequently buy and return the same items. It eventually becomes unprofitable for them, as the returned items cannot be sold as new.

Color temperature may be a little exaggerated there. Some of that is probably spill, but the black portion of the phone looks very warm.

I'll try to do so tomorrow with my DSLR.

We'll see if Apple blacklists me one day lol. So far no problems.

Couldn't apple just have stricter tolerances? It seems that alone would help. I think they're cutting corners to meet production demands. But the consequence is that their screens don't look as good as they should.

They could, but it would be impractical. It could mean rejecting a significantly larger percentage of panels. Other manufacturers use the methods I mentioned for a reason, because they work. Scrapping a large percentage might not be feasible at all given required yields.

Why don't you think they use those other methods then? Too expensive? Not enough demand?

It could be too expensive, but I'm not sure. Earlier versions of the two I linked were around more than a decade ago, at which time the difference in quality across lcd displays was enormous. The lcd panels themselves are somewhat commoditized now. The panels are made by a couple different companies for all other companies. While reducing the contrast range to improve uniformity seems like an engineering hack, it works. Apple has sufficient resources, but it may not be a big priority for them. If they do come up with a better solution, expect to read about it in all of their marketing materials.

@vin7ces

For me it looks good! I can't see any differences between left and right side on the pics.

Here is my 7 Plus with 35% brightness and 100% brightness. Pics taken with a Canon DSLR (not in a dark room).

Yes, that's about as good as they come. Mine is like this. If you look really really carefully and train your eyes you can start to notice little things, but it's near perfect. Good job! I'd say your screen is in the top 90%.

I have got my replacement and it is a yellow bottom one. But I will keep it and never think about it again.

Actually, if I need to choose one of them, I'd like yellow rather than pink....

Annoyed with apple screen and don't want to buy new phones unless the screen issue is been fixed.

The funny thing is: on the pics it looks quite even, but in personal I see the slight pinkish tint on the left to the top...
using dslr camera, the screen is really nice, but using ipad, the variation is obvious, I think

and with a 3weeks unsatisfactory, I am back with my first one with yellow bottom and I will give up and using it.
[doublepost=1476635093][/doublepost]the funny thing is. my friend cannot see my both iphoens' issues, and finally he bought one I think the screen is near perfect. but mine 2 replacements, still ****.

Of the six I went through 5 had yellow bottoms. I wonder why so many have this problem? Anyone with more technical knowledge want to chime in?

Vin7ces, I'm sorry your replacement is the same. I know it's really annoying. There are good ones out there but if you're doing 1 replacement at a time it's not realistic to find one.

by the way, my fried bought one from week41, and I think his is much more even without obvious pinky left or yellow bottom, expect yellower than mine.
