Everything I've read hear convinces me more and more that I will never, ever have an iPhone with Verizon. And since my wife won't consider any other carrier, that probably means I'll never have an iPhone...

I'm surprised customers are ok with being bent over this badly
Any time (on any topic) you assume that your preferences are universal you'll find cases where you're surprised.

If Verizon's business decisions are that awful then they'll see a hit. You don't have to tilt at this windmill.

Not everyone on a family plan. Don't care if you are.
Not everyone's on an individual plan. Don't care if you are. It's what the masses care about that will matter for the carriers and both at&t and Verizon do things that seem like they should drive off customers yet they're still the big two. Again, don't assume that your take on things is everyone else's. Clearly, people stick with them for whatever reasons they may have.

Besides who in their right mind would pay for text messaging instead of Google Voice or the many other free options out there?
Who in their right mind assumes that their particular needs/wants/preferences/budget are universal? The world doesn't revolve around any one person despite what your perspective makes it appear like to you.

I swear there was something still messy about it last time I looked into it.
You have to use the GV app.

It's closer to seamless if you JB and use the GV extensions. Then you can just use the stock apps with GV.

There also the whole GV number versus your carrier number, porting, getting your contacts to switch over if you don't port, etc which seems to be too much for many. None of that ever concerned me and I've been very happy with GV and its benefits over the years. As with anything subjective, YMMV.

Vote with your wallet and change carriers.
^ This. Not sure why people feel the need to rant about something they'll never use anyway or something that they won't change their mind about. Use what works for you. Let others use what works for them. Few things in real life are one-size-fits-all.

Tried it yesterday, the idea of the call-back option annoyed me but figured I'd try it. Completely failed (just enver got a call). Gave up and called from the default app.

I'd rather have iOS 6 than worry about JB'ing. Is iOS 6 JB'd yet?

Changing carriers is more easily said than done. It's not an option for everyone.

I feel your rage OP!

I got what I feel is a good plan with my carrier Telus, but I had to get it out of province:

$60.00

10 faves
unlimited text/photo etc
500mins
5 pm calling
5GB data.
CID/VM

For real, he should slap her across the face and say "Woman, I'm getting an iPhone and we're switching carriers! Now, go make me a sandwich!"

Jeez! I put in a small joke and someone takes it waaaay too far. I am thinking that you aren't married or just plainly don't like sex. I can't imagine anyone would feel too affectionate towards someone with that kind of "humour" :p

the problem is there are just far too many people that really could care less if their monthly phone bill is high. They don't understand the concept of subsidized phones and prices and will just pay whatever is thrown at them. They think the iphone literally is only $99, so are in complete shock and don't understand how people sell them for more money bc they were only $99 when they purchased it ;).

There is a trade off though. You can pay for your own device in full from Apple and take it to a prepaid....but then you get hassled like nobody's business about refilling your account every month since you aren't on a contract.

It is insane that a cell phone costs this much nowadays, but the main problem is that people are willing to continue to fork out that cost no matter what.

It amazes me the price people pay for cable tv and cell phones and think it's just the standard price that everyone should pay. For cell phone and cable bill people could be driving a brand new $500/month car. it's just crazy.

If you are paying $500 a month between cable and a cellphone you are getting severely ripped off or have more **** than anyone would ever need. I pay $80 for my cell (w/ a discount) and $120 for cable (internet/tv). I still think that is high, but nowhere near $500

there are plenty of people that have 5 tv's in their house and each tv requires a cable box, dvr etc. I know a lot of people that pay $200+ easily just for cable tv/internet. My in-laws have verizon fios and have a dvr box in living room, 3 bedrooms, and office. only TWO people live in the house!!!!!!

And as you can see, if it's $100 for 1 cell phone, imagine when there are multiple people in the family.

Well said.
I love how people feel bad for the carriers and say they're not making money and they need to keep raising prices cause its up to them to charge whatever they want. Its ok they keep changing the rules in their favor and providing less for more.
Go elsewhere. Well elsewhere is the same and even worst.
You dont really have valid options when the 2 decent carriers in the US copy eachothers pricing and match the others price hikes. Its price fixing and corporate greed.

very true...I guess I was just thinking as a single person with one income. I would die before I paid that :)

Here's the link to the page

I've tried using zip codes from 20 different states and they all offer me the individual plan option.

Now if only we lived in a place where people could be called out for their bad attitude and NOT have people click the "report post" button on the person who is giving them the answer they so angrily demand. 'Tis a sad sad world we live in.

Ok thx, it looks like its some kind of hidden preorder site not available on the standard Verizon site. Good to know.

Agreed 100%. What sucks is the prices have been steadily rising. I remember the days when (with data) my average bill was $65 after taxes.

Thanks man.

The other problem in the US, people think prepaid options are for poor people or people with bad credit when that's simply not the case.

There are cheaper options and i've played around with many of them, but there is also some type of compromise when you do that. So between cell phone plans and slashing cable prices, you just don't have many options.

Either get an ipod touch and a dumbphone or fork out $100/month for an iPhone. You just don't have too many options unfortunately.

I've tried several prepaid's and found them to be a major hassle. Yes it was significantly cheaper, but the customer service was extremely poor to non-existent or they would hassle you to refill your minutes multiple times per month.

I've done google voice route with prepaid and that's a hassle also. Other the other end, I have my wife who is tired of figuring out different options when AT&T or verizon just work like she likes. Not easy to try the cheap route when your wife doesn't agree lol.

yeah no worries man. but you would be amazed what people are willing to pay.

my father-in-law has every sport package and movie package you can get. Their bill is actually around $300/month. They always would laugh and joke with us about having time warner cable and we were only paying $68/month with taxes for digital cable and internet lol

They were in complete shock when we told them we dropped the TV part and put an antenna in the attic. They could literally not believe someone would do such a thing.

You guys should be laughing at them. :D They're paying 5 times as much as you do for TV and internet.
Some like to have every option available like tons of movie channels, games etc.. when in reality they never need or use any of that.
Just makes them feel cool for having every package available. I can see every single game every sunday.
But I dont cause I dont like football:D lol

we just can't wrap our heads around it.

we were paying $68/month for digital cable and internet for like 2 years and they hit us with a price increase that was going to double the price so got the wife on board with doing hulu plus and an antenna (finally after years of discussion haha). We do that for close to 6 months but was a pain bc we have to buy Roku devices since of course apple wouldn't let you run it on apple tv. Also, we tried airplay and it would skip with the buffer for some reason. So again, there was always some type of compromise and now we are back to cable again lol. luckily at $99/month with dvr.

Then literally 2 weeks after we sign up with cable again, here comes hulu plus app on apple tv. So I feel like with TV and cell phones there is just always something you lose out on if you decide to go the cheap route.

Verizon is just like Apple in a way now.... Verizon has one of the best networks with the most customers of any other network. They can charge what they want now.

Just like Apple has some of the best products out there that are very popular nowadays. They can intern charge what they want for them too.

Bottom line.. they both seem sorta greedy to me.

It's worth a hell of a lot more than Verizon's.

AT&T grandfathered unlimited will be $30 for 5gb of LTE data.

Verizon will force you off your unlimited when you upgrade to either a $30/2gb plan or $60/2gb shared.

If you want unlimited and actually use a lot of data, just buy the phone outright. Why be stuck in a contract anyways? I love my personal line with Verizon which has unlimited LTE + Hotspot usage.

Also, on my company phone, I have yet to be throttled and I'm past 5GB. This is on ATT but the one caveat is the plan isn't grandfathered and our company is allowed to add unlimited data to any line still, including international unlimited data. So that might be why I don't get any warnings or throttling.

I'm a high traffic customer with both companies. Both are great in areas and blow in others.

Blimey! I'm amazed what you're all paying per month. I bought iPhone direct from Apple (£599), and have a PAYG account with T-mobile that costs me about £10 per month. For that I get free texts, 500mb net per month (it's plenty for Twitter or general surfing), no free minutes but then I text far more than I call.

If I used YouTube / uploaded lots of photos I know I'd need more than 500mb but there's no sense in paying for something I'm not likely to ever need.

Except Apple has been dropping prices over the last decade. Verizon has been increasing them.
