Is Your iPhone 6 Defective In Any Way?

I suspect unfortunately that the factory won't influence what you get. All the parts like the screen etc are preassembled by the component manufacturers... The factory just hooks them up like Legos. Unfortunately I'm not aware of a way to determine screen manufacturer by serial number... That information is likely on a manifest to which only Apple and Foxconn have access.

Back in the days of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S one LCD vendor had lots of dust on many of their screens, but the other LCD vendor had washed out colors and an odd vertical line interlacing effect on every single panel they made. The issue was noticeable to me and lots of others but also lots didn't notice it or mind it. That's why I say if you have to look for a problem keep it, because there are so many things that can go wrong there's no guarantee the replacement won't have an even more annoying issue.

Yep, that's my opinion as well actually. Different factories, same screen gamble.

First iPhone 6 128GB Gold I opened at the store had pretty clear spotlighting in the top edge. Like edge bleed of the backlight, little dark triangles about half a centimeter apart across the top. I'm an art director and insanely anal though, so I'm sure not everyone would notice/care.

The employee looked at some of the other display 6 models and they all had the issue, but fainter. We opened up a second 6 and it too had the problem, only slightly less. Shrugged and took it home, I've noticed it has diminished the more I've used it.

Luckily no dead pixels or dust issues. Went back to a different Apple Store today to exchange a case, and noticed the top edge very subtle dark issue on every demo phone.

The 6 Pluses I saw didn't seem to have any backlight issue.

It's so faint now I'm pretty sure it's in the "imagination" category that I will forget about it soon enough.

I have this same issue. It's pretty minor though and I didn't notice it until my second day of use when reading in the Kindle app. Good to hear that it has diminished, but that also could be just because you're getting used to it.

After my experience with my 4s, I've decided not to return it for this issue. There are no dead pixels, the screen is bright and overall uniform, and there are no issues with any parts or cosmetic problems. My first 4s had the spotlight issue on the top as well, and I exchanged it at the Apple store a few days after I got it because of this. That was a mistake, because it took me about three more returns over the following few weeks to get a replacement that didn't have serious problems. On one replacement, my WiFi stopped working after a few days. I'm just going to stick with my current 6 and not worry about it. I've also realized since then that there are a lot more important things in life to worry about than a small difference in lighting in a very small top part of my smartphone.

On a different topic, one thing I did notice is software related. I don't like to show all of my iTunes music on my phone, so if I want to download something I purchased on another device I just open the iTunes app, go More -> Purchased -> Recent Purchases.

All my songs show fine, but as soon as I download one it takes me back to the More page, and the Purchased icon/word has now disappeared. The arrow on the far right is still there, though. If I click this blank space it'll take me back to purchases, where I can download another song. But I have to do this one by one, before I could just tap the cloud button and download as many songs as I want.

I'm thinking this is a software issue that'll hopefully get resolved soon. Anyone else have this?

Has anyone noticed very tiny slit towards the volume buttons that has LED backlight leak? (this is so hard to capture with a camera)The fact that it's towards the volume button makes me think it has been bent ever so slightly though I'd like to think it's not because I've only had the phone for a day and a lot of the times I had it, it wasn't in the pocket.

Is Your iPhone 6 Defective In Any Way?

After reading here I became afraid I'd get a bad iPhone. My iPhone 6 came today and sure enough.....there's not a single thing wrong with it, out of the box anyway. The writing on the back is slightly crooked but I had to look at it good and hard to notice so I really don't give a crap about that.

My iphone 6+ screen's right side is much brighter than left side. It is noticeable on white background, especially in iBooks app. It seems like a book spine on the left side. It's so distracting. Does anyone has the same issue? Or it is normal?

Apple's high build quality and premium fit & finish is a total myth. They actually sell phones with poor build quality IME. You buy an iPhone and expect problems, that's how poor they are. I took five iPhone 5 devices back and the sixth that I kept had loose buttons and a scratch on the Apple logo. This whole exchanging faulty devices thing is a pain in the backside, and even more so when it's a carrier upgrade.

It is actually my second replacement. The first one has a dead/dust pixel problem. It's really emotionally draining:(

After two days my screen didn't recognize touch (6 64 space gray). Then the screen started flickering like it was an old tv getting a bad antennae signal. The next morning the flickering was gone but the left 20% of the screen didn't recognize touch. Apple told me to take it to ups. I did. They didn't have the right code. I came home upset and the phone slipped out of my papers and there is a scuff mark on the left corner of the casing. I sent it off finally and it's with them now. I'm just hoping they don't try and say my scuff mark caused the screen to do what it does.

hardware wise... perfect. better than all 3 of my iPhone 5's, and all 3 of my iPhone 4's. BUT... software wise... its really screwed up. so i voted yes it has defects because i have to reboot it every few hours to fix glitches. waiting for 8.0.2... c'mon apple...

I have just reserved to pick another 6 up from a different store tomorrow - will report in on the backlight (will be checking it in store).

Kind of crazy...but the "iPhone" word and the words underneath it are printed obviously off center (to the left side of the phone) on the backplate. Also, they included a Europe charger in the box instead of one for the U.S.! I haven't even turned the phone on yet...

It seems like everyone has the crooked text. I called Apple about it and they wanted pictures so I sent them some and they agreed. However, they played the dumb game they always play; "wow, I've never heard of this issue before". But I would bet if you try to get a replacement your new phone is going to have it too. It's ********.

Yah... If this is the biggest problem you've got it's definitely a keeper! Still, it is pretty interesting nobody noticed this in production. Likely one or more engraving machines weren't aligned properly for the new cases so hundreds of thousands of phones (including mine) have that problem!

I just got mines and right out of the box, there were finger prints under the plastic and on closer inspection, there are some surface scratches. It's not a big deal, but at the back of my mind I'm thinking this a new phone. It should be flawless. I'm waiting till tomorrow to see if they show up in natural light.

Just give them a call and theyll arrange for a collection and also send one right away, you can keep your current one till the replacement arrives

Only if you want to place a full price hold on a credit card. Not a big deal, but they require it.

I have searched every inch of my phone - every button, every part of the enclosure, and every part of the screen - and I can't find anything wrong with it. The vibration isn't a "defect" but it's different.

Crooked text on the back.....sorry.

Is this just me being picky? No dead pixels, but I do have a slight yellowish tint at the top right.

I went back to the store, and compared the display models. They don't have this tint at the top right, but at the same time, I felt mine looked slightly more "white" everywhere else (except at the top right).

I don't want to be "that guy", but it does bother me sometimes. Does this look to be the glue issue I've read about?

No, it's a color purity issue and it's a problem with the screen that won't get better.

For some reason, Apple's displays seem to have significant problems with color purity. I haven't seen it to such an extent with screens from other manufacturers. My current 13" MBP Retina has this kind of a problem (darker brownish regions bottom left/right), but it's tolerable; I returned the one before that because the left side of the screen was basically pink/purple. I've run a colorimeter on the screen and it's confirmed as significantly dimmer in those areas so it's not just something I'm seeing (I bought the colorimeter specifically to test the MBP's screen because I noticed this issue).

I have seen the same problem with 3-4 different iPhone 4S instances and just gave up on that model due to the problems. Could never get a good one.

Unfortunately, I've noticed the same problem on my iPhone 6.

I compared it with my iPhone 5S and, interesting, the 5S seems to have a worse purity problem than that of the 6 but for some reason I never noticed it with the 5S. The image on the left is my 6 and the image on the right is my 5S.

Anyway, the issue with the 6 is kind of annoying; the left side of the keyboard looks brownish/yellow and it's distracting. Trying to decide what to do with it myself as the phone is otherwise perfect.

The text on my phone wasn't really crooked. All of the text was basically shifted over to the left side of the phone, so the margin on the left was about .75 inches and the right margin was 1 inch.

As an update, I took it back to the store. The second iphone they gave me had 2 dead pixels, the third one had 1 dead pixel, and the fourth one was perfect. For reference, I have the Verizon 64gb Silver model (not sure if that makes any difference). The Apple representative was really nice about the whole thing.

I picked up by 64GB Silver 6 the other day and I just noticed that the upper right corner on mine has a backlight issue too. It's just slightly darker than the rest of the screen. Not as noticeable when the brightness is cranked up, but distracting on white backgrounds. Thinking about heading back to the Apple Store this weekend for a replacement. Weird that a lot of the backlight issues seem to be on the upper right corner.

The top part of iPhone 6’s display is a lot darker (best seen at brightness 20%). I've visited today some local shops and found out that there were no phones without this issue :( Some more pronounced, even more than mine did, especially white ones, some a little bit less. Surprisingly iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t have this issue – the display is perfect.

major defect here. got a 6+ 64gb SG today and the screen is not responsive. I cant complete set up, cannot type and it does not recognize gestures(like swipe left or right). I can't type in a wifi password because certain keys can't be used.

I'm so sad :(

There are millions of people who don't have any issues at all, though. Macrumors isn't a good way to tell because everything gets magnified as one person posts about their issue and then 20 others go over their phone with a magnifying glass to see if they have the same.
