Is Your iPhone 6 Defective In Any Way?

These are the things I have encountered on iPhones ranging from 3G to 6+. I am 99% sure that there is at least one on yours, but it's a good thing if you can't find something wrong or do not consider some of the following as a defect. I wouldn't call everything a defect, as it is a personal preference for some.

- dead pixel
- backlight bleed
- uniformity (one side darker, yellower)
- smudge / smear inside glass
- dust inside screen
- dust or dirt inside glass (outside of screen area)
- recessed / uneven volume button (on one but not another)
- sticky vibration button (normal ones have a nice firm click)
- uneven pressure / sticky / unbalance on sleep wake button (normal ones have a nice click to it)
- uneven home button pressure (perfect ones have a nice click to it, but this is personal preference)
- uneven gap when assembled (run your finger on the edge on each side and compare for your 6/6+)
- dust inside camera lens
- general cosmetic scratches / chips / dings (Apple logo, aluminum, buttons, sim slot)

And this list hasn't even covered technical issues like wifi, Bluetooth, Touch ID, vibration rattle, etc.

But if you can't find anything wrong, be grateful because ignorance is truly a bliss. I envy you!

Huh...I have had a 3, 4, 5 & 6 and thus far, just about flawless.....I guess I never considered it before. I do wish the vibrate mode were not so loud on the 6. Other than that....

I'm grateful!

Yellow Patches

Hi All,

Day-1 itself I noticed the Yellow Patch at the bottom right and a diagonal yellow line which can be viewed when viewed at a particular angle.

Scheduled an Appointment with Apple folks and they replaced my phone immediately.

Super Easy but yes its a Defect for sure!

Cheers,
Viggu

Just got my Verizon iPhone 6 on Friday and everything is perfect with it so far. I ordered the 6+ with Verizon yesterday. Hopefully the 6+ will be as nice as my 6.

So far my IP6+ seems perfect though I don't really expect complete perfection from a product made by imperfect humans :)

Got my 6 Plus this Friday, it looked fine initially but I just noticed there's a small speck under the display. Does not appear to be a dead pixel, more like a dust particle of some sorts. It's very faint but once you know it's there you simply can't NOT see it :(

I'm wondering if I should take it back. I have no doubt apple will replace this, but there's a risk the replacement may have the same or a different defect that may even be worse. I mean, apart from the dust the phone is absolutely fine. Not bad buttons or switches, no bending, no yellowing, no bleeding, nothing.

At the moment I'm leaning more towards keeping the phone and save me the trouble of potentionally having to go back to the Store a dozen times before I get a perfect unit. I will try and live with it for a couple of days and see how much it bothers me...

After reading this, I'm sure my 6+ has some issues.. but I'm remain blissful and keep a blind eye!

I would have to say that my phone is defective because all the buttons appear to be loose; even the home button feels like it's moving around. The silent button is the obvious one. I've seen some posters say that it's somewhat normal, but I don't want problems down the line so unfortunately I will be returning my iPhone 6. I'm disappointed but I think I'm going to wait at least a month before ordering another phone. They're making millions of phones and there are going to be defects.

Hi all,

Strong yellow tint on screen (4.7inch, space grey, 64GB.) I was going to keep it as I just couldn't be bothered with exchanging it, waiting etc. But I just couldn't stand the screen, along with thinking that I paid hundreds for it. Sent it back, glad to be rid of the thing, back to my wonderful iPhone 5 (although this too has a slight yellowish screen, can't win!). I'll wait for a few months before I re-order the 6, I've never been a launch day buyer so I'm happy to wait. Don't know why the temperature can't be standardised before it leaves the production line.

My first 6 plus had a dead pixel, and the replacement has what is either a spec of dust or a pixel stuck on gray. Oh well, I don't have time to keep going back and forth to the Apple Store, I'll take care of it later

when I take pictures, the orientation keeps switching and flipping, what the…

Maybe try powering off then on, but likely it's a bad accelerometer. My wife's replacement iPhone 5 had a bad one, photos would save upside-down, and the undo dialog would randomly popup while she was in any text entry boxes.

I had this same issue on my 6 Plus and happens so that I notice the dust under screen right after my 14 day is up :(, I cannot believe I have not noticed within 14 days ugh. Decided to go to the Apple store this early morning without any appointment at the genius. Genius agreed that there was a dust underneath and have decided to replace it.

My brand new one has no dust underneath the screen. No yellow tints either. Much better than my original one since the power button was loose as well.

No issues at all with my new Silver Verizon 128GB iPhone 6. I hope the Verizon 6 Plus that I ordered is the same way.

Just wait, trust me, save your self the time and headache right now of possibly cycling through a few phones...wait till demand has went down for the 6/6 Plus when they get the production line running smoother

My Pre-Order one got a white dot on the screen that never fade away.

The replacement came with a little dent hole on the screen...

The quality is ridiculous......

Screen Clicking

I noticed my 64GB Space Grey 6 started clicking when the top right (right below the power button) of the screen was pressed. It's very audible and easily repeated, even when the screen has been off for hours (so I know usage isn't causing it). Have an appointment at the Genius Bar today, so they better replace it.

I just got off the phone with AppleCare because my display has some sort of black spot/dust in the middle of it. A senior advisor helped me out and is sending me a replacement for a Verizon iPhone 6+ 64gb Space Gray.

I have something similar... Not that noticeable though. How's the replacement?

Took the plunge and returned my phone. The dust inside the screen was driving me insane. I got a white box replacement that is absolutely perfect. Even the Touch ID sensor seems to respond much faster than the phone I had before.

I'm happy I went back with it :)

I went through 3 replacements (one dead pixel + backlight / one random restart / one uneven backlight) and finally got a perfect iPhone. With AC+ I did all express replacement and was never without a phone. Feels good to have what I paid for.

Nice man. I don't have Apple Care + but I know they do Express replacement under regular warranty anyway.

So, you repeated this process three times? once they sent you a new one you would send the other one and then call back to open another case # for the defects on your new replacement and so on?

( Im planning on doing this too. Asking for a replacement. When it comes I compare it to mine and if mine is better I'll just send the replacement back and deal with my uneven backlight.

I have no dead pixels... I repeat NO dead pixels. But then I started reading this forums and I read about the uneven backlight and noticed a darker region on the status bar area, much more noticeable in landscape mode. I just wish I hadn't read these forums.

I'm calling Apple.

The literature told me express replacements are $29 each. Maybe that's after the first year, I obviously don't know.

In two cases, I went through chat first and then talked to a senior advisor on the phone (same guy both times, Brett, nice guy). The third time I did it all through chat. New case numbers all times.

I agree, the forums can be more harm than good. While I looked closely at all of mine, I would prefer to just be happy with my product out of the box despite any minor issues, as I think most people are.

How was your back light issue?. Mine bothers me when on a white screen in landscape mode to the earpiece side. Looks kind of gray-ish. And on the right side on the screen on the bottom I can tell that it is brighter and see a little bit of light leakage but uniform throughout the whole area.

Then yesterday I notice while using a Spigen slim armor after almost a month that my volume up rocker button required more effort to click and the buttons are now less loose than before ( that I liked because it was click-ier ). And the issue persists even with the case off. It wasn't like this at first.

Other than this the phone is spotless, no dead pixels or battery issues.

So these are my issues. But for these I rather go through express replacement because that way I get to keep my phone if the replacement is worse.

What is an express replacement? Is it a new phone in a retail box with accessories or is it a refurb? Thanks. I'm asking because I was offered one for a defective phone that I had and it wasn't explained to me what it was. I turned it down and just returned the phone and placed another order.

An express replacement is where they send you a replacement unit, usually a white box unit. They temporarily place a hold on your card for the full price of the phone, you receive your device, you send your old one back and than the hold gets taken off of your account.
