Is Your iPhone 6 Defective In Any Way?

An express replacement is where they send you a replacement unit, usually a white box unit. They temporarily place a hold on your card for the full price of the phone, you receive your device, you send your old one back and than the hold gets taken off of your account.

Yup. I've been told it's too early for refurb units (or was, 2 weeks ago) but it doesn't really bother me either way.

The white box unit isn't a retail unit, right? Ok, glad I didn't do that then.

Mine has a brighter line around the edges of the screen. It's visible on black and colorful backgrounds. Is it normal? Also the home button is not as fixed as the one on my 5s, it moves a bit when I touch it(not pressing it)

Perfection is out of this world, but surely this forum is a nest of picky (verging into OCD) customers, so it's quite easy to find "reported defects" here...

If you have no cosmetic blemishes on the body, chances are there's a dust inside the screen.

If you have a near-perfect screen with no dead pixel or dust inside, then there's a blemish cosmetically.

If you have neither, then there's a hot pixel in the camera slo-mo or a bad home button.

Bottom line, I don't think there's ever a phone that is 100% perfect. I haven't seen one yet. You gotta compromise something. Sigh.

Camera takes blotchy pictures. No detail. The 5/5S took way better pictures. It's a shame.

Well I had a fun experience with Apple today. I noticed a little spot or dead pixel on my iPhone 6's screen after a few days of having it, so I brought it to the Genius Bar. They quickly offered to replace the screen -- something I hadn't heard being done with 6's -- but when I returned to pick it up, their calibration machine had ****ed up and bricked the phone completely. So now I have to wait a couple days til a whole new replacement phone gets in.

Pretty lame, Apple. Pret-ty lame.

Bummer, man. Why couldn't they just give you a white box replacement?

I've just read through this entire thread and now I know that the text of the rear of my phone is slightly askew. One issue I've noticed, that I haven't seen mentioned before, is that my front "FaceTime" camera is slightly offset from the front bezel resulting in what looks like a small "crescent moon." This is with a Space Gray iPhone 6. As far as I can tell it is purely cosmetic and has no affect on the camera's ability to function properly. I've not seen this on any other display models but have one colleague that also has it, also with no effect to the camera's functionality. I will not bother with an exchange for what appears to only be a cosmetic issue. Good luck everyone!

After waiting for 2 weeks, I reserved mine (6, 64 Gb, Silver) today and went to pickup. When I first turned on the phone, I immediately realised the backlight issue. On bright white backgrounds, upper right side of the screen turned slightly to gray and looked blurry. I'm not sure if blurriness is about lower contrast in that area. I ensured the phone nor the box had any sign of physical damage. I found same problem with about 1/4 of the phones in show, so it doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem.

Unfortunately, the guys in the Apple Store did not have another one so I returned it and took my money back.

Hate to say this but, it's really disappointing that you wait for 2 weeks (in some cases even more), pay 1.5 times the price of the competitor and end up with a defected product.

Edit: it's a week 41 device manufactured in F7 (China - Foxconn).

Yes

Sometimes it's unresponsive or really laggy and touch ID is broken, it almost never works

Will be getting a replacement

apple's high build quality and premium fit & finish is a total myth. They actually sell phones with poor build quality ime. You buy an iphone and expect problems, that's how poor they are. I took five iphone 5 devices back and the sixth that i kept had loose buttons and a scratch on the apple logo. This whole exchanging faulty devices thing is a pain in the backside, and even more so when it's a carrier upgrade.

qft. +1.

The engraving on the back with the imei number does not run parallel to the engraving of "iPhone". I must be getting picking sticking around with you lot.#

I finally got my hands on a 64GB gold yesterday, I discovered this morning that it had a dead pixel near the center of the screen. Took it to the Genius bar and offered either a whitebox replacement or to replace the screen on the spot. I chose the latter and it took about 40 minutes. Good as new!

Got a day 1 and I am finally fed up enough with my TouchID to try and get a replacement. I'd estimate a less then 30% success rate and that's after wipes, DFU restores, new flashes, and relearns.

My iPhone 6 had 'spots' of discoloration on the gold tint backing

Surprisingly, when I received my iPhone 6, I was thrilled. It's a great device! However, I did have these weird spots on the gold backing - like the gold tinting process was off or something. Anyhow, no one has ever reported it that I could find. I took the phone into the Apple store, and the manager swapped out my model for 'refurbished one.' The problem with the spots is that in certain lighting you couldn't see them. Due to my OCD, I was not able to ignore it and they stuck out like a sore thumb to me. So, I begrudgingly took the phone in, and the manager said he couldn't 'see' the spots, but the girl that was waiting on me did see them. I think Apple reps get really annoyed at their end users being so OCD over defects. However, I have to say Apple has done a really good job of taking ownership over their hiccups on the assembly line. It's just such a struggle for us 'perfectionists' to except something less than an ideal rendition of the product. I believe if you lay down $750+ for a device - it has to be delivered as such.

I used to take some of the complaints about defects serious until I ran into a couple of threads during iPhone 3GS launch of people on their 12th iPhone replacement and I just KNOW there is something not right about that.....

Every iPhone launch:

My phone rattles near the camera.

My home button clicks.

My screen has a strange tint.

I will say...

...I have a macbook air 13" 2014 model. It has no cosmetic issues and looks great. (No dead pixels, etc.)

...I have an iPad air and it has no cosmetic issues.

I seem to only have had issues with iPhones.

I will say (in my opinion) the iPhone 6 (and 6+) are the best made iPhones I have seen since the iPhone 4S.
