Is Your iPhone 6 Defective In Any Way?

I was appalled at the poll results. A 21% defect rate? Perhaps I should cancel my order and wait until Foxconn workers are under less pressure.

This thread makes shocking reading. I had to go through 6 iPhone 5 devices because one had horrid crackling during calls (every call, to any number and however strong the signal was), four had loose buttons (including the one I ended up keeping), and three had nasty scratches on the casing (as well as loose buttons on two of them). I ended up keeping the sixth despite the loose volume buttons, because my carrier would send me no more. I was told I had to take another brand, or a refund.
Either Foxconn are crap, or Apple have these things mass-produced on a weedy budget and don't care about quality. I'm thinking probably a combination of the two. For the price they charge and the 'premium' image they promote, they just churn these out like Christmas cracker toys. Why don't they commence the manufacturing process earlier, or use more factories? Buying such a premium product shouldn't be such a lottery, and the exchange process for duds is a time consuming hassle.

Damn is there a way to test and see these easier?

Well I just noticed mine by using the phone for about 5 minutes. It is noticeable only when white backgrounds are showing, it won't show on black. So you might try getting an app to test for dead pixels. It should just give you a plain white entire screen so you can check the entire display.

X in home button.

You need to add some finger prints to it (touch it a little bit), and turn on a light on it.

Seems like glass is etched.

I've gone through 5 iPhone 6's, the 1st four all had dead pixels. Genius and store manager at Apple store were so accommodating and saw them easily and swapped no problem. Really appreciated that. 5th time was a charm for me, perfect. The 1st four had serials starting with F17 and also DNF I think can't remember all. My current one is DNP. I hate dead pixels and refuse to accept them, ever.[/QU

Five iPhone 6 lol I would hate to do that again.
I did the same thing with my iPhone 5.

iPhone 6 64gb Space Gray. First one had the darker backlighting in the upper right corner where the batt icon is. Everyone saw it and they replaced it no problem. New one has a good screen...even backlighting and no dead pixels. The home button has some side to side play and is a little wobbly though. Kinda annoying, but probably not something to return/exchange over. A friend with the same phone has a home button that you can move a bit, but not slightly loose feeling like mine...almost like his button spring has more tension on it.

Also has two tiny scratches on the glass under the screen, lower left. I can't imagine how I did it, but it's possible I guess. Seems like they were probably there out of the box, but since I didn't see it at the store I can't be sure.

My screen has vertical lines at random.
If I process a replacement, i will get a brand new retail boxed one? Or a white box refurb?

Thanks went through this and I don't see any on mine. http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php

Sleep button on my iPhone 6+ starting acting up and now only very rarely functions. Have appointment at Genius Bar tomorrow afternoon.

Genius Bar gave me a white box replacement which is working fine. While the new phone was rebuilding I had a great conversation with the "Genius" about 6 vs. 6+, Yosemite (I'm running public beta 3), Handoff, and cases. He brought out several cases I could play and I liked (and bought) the Apple leather case. And they told me my old phone was going back to Apple for a failure analysis since this was the first sleep button failure that store had seen so far.

Overall Apple turned what could have been a very sour experience into positive one.

It's not glue. It won't get better. Trust me. I've lived with multiple iphones with this problem. Return for full refund and buy again. Don't settle for a white box replacement

What's wrong with a white box replacement? My white box replacement is flawless.

My first phone with a dim upper right corner was a F17xxxxx serial and my flawless replacement is DNQ.

The white box replacements aren't refurbished. Not this early on. Even later on, I don't think 100% of them are refurbs.

Can't seem to get a pic of it, but my home button has a diagonal crack below the surface (not the sapphire, but below it). I already had a genius bar appointment tomorrow for repairs on my 5, so I guess this one is going back too...

Not withstanding your issues with previous models, do keep in mind that this is a very small sample set, and only reflects those who are a) invested enough to come to an online forum and b) unhappy enough to vote in a poll. Other than the thread about phones bending I haven't seen nearly as many posts and threads about defects as other years.

It will be a white box replacement but as others have said, for now, it will be a brand new phone because there are no refurbs yet.

Why settle for a white box replacement when you are within the return period? I like my phones to match serial on the box.

We don't know that white box replacements are all new at this point. They could be phones that didn't make the "cut" during production and were refurbished.

Within return period warrants a brand new box. Also, once you get a white box, you can caught caught in the exchange lottery (can't return after accepting).

We don't know that.

My white box replacements in the past (4s, ipad 2) never had the same quality screens. I had to replace them a couple of times before receiving decent ones.

Here's a 1200 dpi scan of dust under the LCD

Image

Is this iPhone 6 or 6+?

I think my phone has lots of dust at the top too, I can sorta see a lot of specks with Night mode grey backdrop of Tweetbot and scrutinizing it carefully. otherwise not really..

same with the white semi transparent safari address bar but really on one part in particular I can sorta tell.

sucks cause vibrate is solid, so is build, phone doesnt get hot or have any obvious dead pixels or dust against a complete white backdrop. no yellowing or any of that crap.

the screen colors look great too and no interlacing. got from best buy, sorta too afraid to get caught in the Genius Bar swap hell.

Might just do an Apple care replacement over the phone, and if the replacement is inferior, hold onto current one. i dunno. can't even tell when phone is in landscape at all either. I wish I weren't so observant (and OCD) coupled with wildly varying quality control or lack thereof.

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by can't return after accepting?

When I woke up in the morning, every time I woke my iPhone or moved it, it kept on making the charging noise because it kept disconnecting and reconnecting. I tried a different wire and have the same problem so it is the port itself not the wire.

If I wiggle the wire, sometimes it disconnects but sometimes it doesn't, so I'm not sure 100% I can replicate this to the genius bar. If they deny a replacement should I just tell him I want a return and buy a new one? How long would the wait time be?

Fair points. I didn't even think about not being able to return after exchanging for a white box replacement. I don't plan on returning anyway, but that's good to know for future purchases. I didn't ask to return/swap for a new retail phone. I've always been under the impression from store staff and from these forums that for at least the 1st couple weeks after launch the white box phones are new. Regardless, I'm not noticing any issues at all w/ my replacement, screen is perfect and nothing is loose, no scratches. And the printing on the back is perfectly even (I should stop reading these forums, ignorance is bliss...) Although signal strength in my apartment is lower than on my 5S. Hopefully that's not a white box issue??

***Edit: I was given a printed out sticker containing my name and serial number and bar code of the original phone that I exchanged for the white box replacement I have now. So, would that then suffice if I walked in wanting to return the white box replacement?

Mine also has a Tiny scratch in the same exact spot as yours under the screen, also noticed it out of the box. Very small, can only see it if looking for it. Not really on the screen but mostly on the black space. Not a deal breaker as the rest of the phone is flawless. Tight buttons, clicky home button, tight volume buttons, no back light bleed or dead pixels.

Yours probably were there when you opened the box.

I am the same way. But consider if dont really notice it, you might get another with loose buttons or mushy home button etc.

I am keeping mine microscopic scratch and all. :)

Scratches were noticed on accident under the bright kitchen lights. Looking at the home button I saw em. The only show up under light so bummer, but not too bad. Even with the slight looseness/wobble, the home button has a solid up down click to it. That's why I'm thinking it's probably not worth a swap. Long as it doesn't get any worse or start making noise. It did a little this morning but stopped and hasn't come back. So we'll see
