Not long ago, Android phones had a little bit better specs and lower price as their selling point over the Apple iPhones.

Today, they are inferior in specs, are barely cheaper, so for me, there is exactly 0 reasons to choose flagship Android today. Some will say ancient microSD cards are huge plus, but...meh, let those who want them have them, that's not my thing.

The only reason people buy Android phones today is that mid range Android phones are very good value for money. Most of the Android devices sold are mid and low end.
Better cameras, in display fingerprint sensor, are VR, using your phone as desktop computer. Higher resolution displays, better battery life. Ability to wireless charge another device from your phone.

The only thing the iPhone has is the A12 chip.

Why? If less people are buying the new iPhones this year then Apple will have to innovate in order to entice consumers next year, because you know Android phones aren't standing still.

Android will slow down, too. Less money mean less innovation. Just like the point and shoot camera market, it died with very little advancements due to lack of purchases.

Better camera: subjective.
In display fingerprint sensor: because it relies on optical fingerprint recognition, it is highly insecure, a scotch tape can fool it.

Using your phone as desktop computer: I have seen DeX and it is horrible.

Higher resolution display: Most are still on FHD and few are on QHD, the difference between two is virtually non existent for unaided eye.

Better battery life: varies from case to case. Android phones with OLED displays have horrible battery life.

Ability to wireless charge another device from your pioneer: do not know what that is, but LET'S SAY it is a plus, who is using it and how often.

I am sorry, I forgot to add, Android phone manufacturers have long marketed gimmicks as features, so if anyone is considering Android phone, they are full of gimmicks that you will use once in a blue moon, if that is your thing.

The note 9 and mate 20 pro have larger batteries that last longer. They both have OLED displays.

The mate 20 pro and the p20 have triple camera systems and every review puts the camera on those phones and the pixel 3 ahead of the iPhone.

I have used Dex and it’s not horrible at all.

You are wrong , next year Samsung Flagship will use ultra sonic fingerprint sensor. It's more secure because it draw a 3d image of your finger and it would work in 60% of your screen, not like the optical.

Almost upcoming S10 is sporting Ufs 3.0 , witch it's a lot faster than today tecnology.

But i would stop there and i would ask you, what is better on an Iphone than on this Beast? The only distinctive thing that have Apple today is the A12 processor, talking about gimmick...

If they don't innovate next year it will be a bad year for Apple.

My daily phone atm is a Huawei P20 Pro. Battery lasts between 2 and 3 days, even occasionally get up to 4 with light use. It's got a OLED display. Mate 20 pro has even better battery life. There are of course many other examples.

Why don't you argue for Apple/iOS instead of against Android phones, of which you obviously lack knowledge och therefor makes little sense more often than not?

They probably knew they would eventually go too far but how would they ever know until they tried and failed? Hopefully next year there will be lower prices and better value.

This hypothesis is disturbing and most likely accurate. The level of greed and manipulation of those in the ecosystem under Tim is finally hitting home. The village is finally realizing the Emperor has no clothes. :apple:

Samsung still have crappy software and really that continues to be their only main downfall

Yup, this is the essence of it. Apple has me locked into their ecosystem. It would take not just one great product but a family of great products for me to abandon the terrific integration I get among my Mac, iPhone, iPad, watch, and apple tv.

Buuuuut... Apple's prices have pushed me to hold onto my devices much longer. My Mac is 5 years old - that's a record for me. My iPad is 4, also a record. My phone is only a year and a half old (didn't get it at release), but I'm going to keep it at least until next September, when it will be 2.5, and that will be another record for me.

My iPhones are 1 and 2 years old. Plan to stay on the Verizon or ATT networks, so no need to buy newer model. My laptop is now 3 years old. I just bought the new Mini, but plan to keep it for years.

Let’s reflect back to last year in 2017, and the exact same statement was said when the 2017 iPhone X launched, when others were saying ‘I haven’t seen that many X’s in public’, yet, The XR was released in mid October, and others are making it seem like it’s been on the market for a year already.

So my response to yours, which is completely opposite, I live in a fairly large city, and I see the XR quite regularly. Does that mean the XR is not doing well because we don’t see in public in our certain demographic? No. The reality is, we have to allow consumers to gradually upgrade over the course of time, just like the iPhone X was in the same position.

I have not knowingly seen any of this years models in the wild. But where I work, most of the iPhones I see are older models, such as the 6+ or 7. And out in the wild, how to differentiate an Xs and X? Or 8 and 7 or 6 or 6s?
[doublepost=1544389392][/doublepost]I have a couple spare Android phones that I've used. The Moto G5+ finally upgraded to 8.1, though it will never go past that.

Sure, but it's getting better each year. That is why I plan to take a closer look to S10 and new Iphone X next year( the time to upgrade has come i think. 3 years have past)
I hope that Samsung and Apple release better cost/benefit products next year

Unfortunately, Apple decided to compensate for declining unit sales with high unit prices. I do believe the official price will stay the same while hidden discounts like good trade in offers will happen more often. Also Iphone X at $599 may become available in more countries.

Maybe people prefer the home button. I’ve just listened to Cardi B ranting on Instagram about her new XS. She said she doesn’t know how to use it and she wants to go back to the 8.

I guess the guestures are a big learning curve.
I had the XS for 2 days. Took me 5 minutes to learn gestures. And I hate change :) About as easy as it can possibly get.

I have the max and the X before it and it took me less than a day to learn the new guestures. However I’m comfortable with technology. Maybe for people who aren’t it’s a steep learning curve. She said she isn’t good with technology. She didn’t say how long she’d had the phone for but said she was getting aggravated lol

Bleeding edge chip design is considered a gimmick? Pure ignorance.

It’s not a gimmick However it needs to have some practical use. Computational photography on the Xs/max/Xr is a start but google are doing the same thing (maybe better) with an inferior chipset.

Googles ‘Night sight’ dark photo Mode is interesting. It’s just another indicator the future of smart phone competition is software, it’s not about the hardware advancements anymore.

So many of my tech-enthusiast friends have opted for Android phones over the last few months rather than updating their iPhone to the latest & greatest. Most of them have gone for mid-range models too (spending around £300-£500) as they can't even justify the price for the Xr. Seems like the £750-£1000+ pricing model is a breaking point for many people.

I'd be interested to see how much market share Android manufactures have gained over Apple in the last quarter.

Apple have lost the plot with the severe lack of innovation & obscene greed.

I only have an Xs Max because I got it for €850 unlocked through work and I got €500 for my 8 Plus.

€350 was not too bad. Not in a million years would I buy it at consumer normal prices.

Which competitors flagships is 100 less than the XS? I thought they were about 200 or more less.
Hope you are right. Love the SE.

But I recognize that even with a less-than camera, or processor, Apple can’t make an SE without charging profit. The smaller size doesn’t scale down the price of components much at all.

So the price factor going up is not that big a deal to me, but clearly it is for many billions of people. I just want a small factor phone that uses the Apple ecosystem. I’ll let great photographers buy the expensive cameras. And Hodor can buy the giant phones. Hodor.

Yep. I don’t see Apple lowering prices, they’ll just find other ways to make the phones cheaper like pushing trade-ins (and increasing the trade-in value) and allowing 3rd parties/carriers to offer discounts or even offer certain models for free like Sprint and T-Mobile are doing with the XR.

It's a bit of a catch 22. You alienate people with change, but you alienate others if you don't change.

It's true for both people and companies like Apple.

Apple's challenge is they have to worry about more than a billion people people using there products. I just have to worry about my wife.

Everyone is different. But I really fail to see how someone could have any serious trouble with the 5 or so gestures necessary to use the phone. I am sure there are some other less obvious gestures, but I am not speaking of those. To go home, swipe up. Really not that hard :)

I'm late to this party, but I got a Xs Max 256 from The Source here in Canada for $260 on Black Friday. Had to switch from Telus to Bell (not great, but I can live with it), but I'm also saving 80 bucks a month on a plan for three of us. And that's before a 1300 dollar credit on the monthly plan that I'm getting because I bought it for my small consulting company. So, I definitely agree that the phone is overpriced, but I got one because of Black Friday, and paid so little because the woman at The Source said she managed to combine 4 or 5 Black Friday deals for me! I was able to sell my Seven plus 128 for 400 bucks... My wife and daughter transferred their phones to Bell and I sold the 32 gb iPhone 7 phones that I got for quite a bit more than it cost to pay off what was remaining on their phones for Telus.
