Just a heads up...if you've ever wanted to change your iTunes fonts/sizes head over to this thread :) Makes iTunes 10 much prettier IMO.

Hmm. I keep looking for the one thing that pops out in a positive way. Unfortunately, I only find more things that I find hard to digest:

1.) I don't like the new iTunes logo/icon.
2.) I want colored icons in the sidebar.
3.) I want colored Pref icons.
4.) I don't need no half baked iPing.
5.) I most certainly don't want a freaking stupid Cancel and OK button on my Pref window.
6.) I don't like the weird looking window controls.

So why did we have to wait for this lousy upgrade? They had to kill off the Facebook connection. You know what. This download was a waste of bandwidth. At least to me.

Note: I'm aware of the hacks, but Johnny end-user won't.

p.s. I am beginning to like Spotify more and more.

Edit: Even the security content of iTunes 10 which points to the fixed WebKit bugs with the note: "Impact: Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution" doesn't do jack for me. When do we ever visit a website like that in iTunes?

Wish they'd add a 'toolbar control' button to switch to the mini player rather than using the green zoom button. Surely that's more logical because by switching to the mini player you're hiding the toolbars!

Also, please Apple, lets move books to an iBooks OSX app. It's just stupid having to access my PDFs via iTunes when on my Mac.

When in the "Album List" view, all albums that have less than "x" tracks (let's say "x" for now, cause I haven't actually discovered that number yet) do not appear with an album cover. Yup. Meaning that, when you have, say, a band with many releases, and you have some of their albums and singles, the singles' artwork simply WILL NOT APPEAR. And even if you SEARCH for this SPECIFIC single on the search, you get it with NO COVER, and there's no option to disable this kind of behavior! That's why I'm switching to Grid view for now.
Menubar -> View -> Select "Always Show Artwork"

Thanks go out to the person who provided a new package of resources to restore color icons. Between that and a Time Machine restore of the iTunes.icn file, iTunes 10 doesn't look hideous anymore!

You make it sound like something has changed or been taken away from you - what options did you have for album art size in album list view in itunes 9?

hybrid mode is not new apple is just trying to make it seem that way, it is simply a limited and crappy version of things you could already do in previous versions of itunes. before in list view you could adjust the artwork size as large as you would like which could be much much larger than the 'large' option, and the name of the album and artist were located sensibly below the artwork as opposed to the right of the album. hybrid mode is totally lame.

Agreed, only hybrid also hides the album name column. I preferred the old list view with optional album image column.

My review:

It still plays music. Good.
Fullscreen visualization now does not change resolution. Good.
My favourite visualization (LED spectrum analyzer) is not smooth anymore. Will probably be changed in the next bugfix version.

Everything else: Whatever.

Thanks to the folks who've done the hacks for horizontal buttons and colored icons. iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV still need colored if anyone else is going to make changes or improvements to the resource file.

The reason I say that is AirTunes was renamed AirPlay and the reason was it isn't just about music. Well neither is iTunes.

Which is awfully similar to Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil.

I activated Ping, and can't for the life of me figure out how it decided the eight songs it chose that I like. I only own two of them, and they came from CDs, not purchases. Some of the other six are Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Colbie Cailat. I'm a 56 year old guy, not an eleven year old girl?

Another thing I noticed. It may have been there in the past and I never saw it. When using Coverflow on Purchased items from the store, it shows all the books I downloaded for iBooks. Seems out of place, but maybe I just didn't look there before.

I really don't care one way or another what the iTunes logo looks like. The only time I see it in my dock is when I turn the computer on in the morning. I have 99% album art for my music. As far as appearance of Itunes 10,again I don't care, because I am listening to it in the background and minimize it as I work on my computer. Your mileage may vary :)

There's almost nothing that I like about this update:

-performance is equally sluggish as iTunes 9.x on a <2 year old iMac
-what on earth have they done with the aqua close, minimise, maximise buttons
-why has it all gone monochrome. Certainly more difficult to distinguish the different categories in the left hand panel
-volume slider looks weird compared with the old one. what is that funny nubbin supposed to look like?
-the new iTunes application icon - you would never know that Apple has some of the best icon designers in the industry

but most of all I'm upset by the fact that each iteration of iTunes goes further away from Apple's UI guidelines. Why is one of the most popular iLife applications (and one known by most Windows users too) constantly being toyed with in terms of look and feel. This should be a flagship application, not a plaything.

Agree on all counts. Actually, the ui changes are downright ridiculous...

Holy cow its reaaaly faster to play songs now.

I have a 2 terrabytes archive...once I launched Itunes and its churned the whole library, songs almost play instantly now now matter where I click. Search is also way way faster.

Kudos on this update.

The problem I am getting it that if I go to check for updates in iTunes it says 9.2.1 is the latest version.
