Tutorial on how to automatically import music as 256-kbps iTunes Plus files??? Gimme a break. I already automatically import it as 320-kbps AAC files. Which one is better? Obviously the latter. Duh!

And will this finally add the feature that I can copy --any-- mp3 file (read: a file that I have not bought from the iTunes store) from --my-- iPod to --any-- of --my-- computers? Something tells me that iTunes will remain the same pile of DRM dung as before.

It already does that... I haven't buy anything from iTunes and have my iPod full of music.

The first thing I wondered was, I can import CDs as 256kbps AAC now, can't I? So in the context of this update, what do they mean by "import CDs as iTunes Plus" being a "new feature"? New name, same thing, no? If that is the case, how is this a new feature?
I'm guessing that most people aren't even aware that they're capable of importing music at a higher quality than the default.

Fix for Vista Ultimate

It would be nice if they could fix the compatibility with Vista Ultimate. It is annoying having to run as administrator every time I want to buy something from itunes on Ultimate.

Would also be nice if they changed the windows app to fit in with vista, like they have with Safari 4, but I doubt it very much.

Is it just me or is the Genius feature not all it's cracked up to be? I just don't find it all that useful. Maybe I'm missing the point somehow.:rolleyes:

First, as pointed out earlier, this issue has nothing to do with DRM. Second, there are a ton of programs that allow you to do it.

No, you are incorrect about this. iPhoto does keep all your photos in a single package. You can open the package in Finder and view it in its hierarchical folder structure by right-clicking on it and selecting view package contents from the context menu, but Finder will not display it as such under normal circumstances. You can drill down with Terminal like it's normal folders, so maybe it's just semantics and you are correct on that level, but the packaging method allows for indexing and cacheing that "normal" folders don't have beyond Spotlight.

No, they did not change it back...

I think the point was that the actual photos are not in a database. Just inside normal folders in a package. The original poster was worried that they were in "some crazy database.itunes package like iPhoto."

!!!

Based on new screenshots scattered throughout the iTunes pages, the iTunes "Party Shuffle" feature has apparently been renamed "iTunes DJ".

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

No one commenting on the new visualizer? It's above speed improvements on Apple's page, so it's more important ;)

The visualizer was new in 8.0. We're talking about 8.1. If you're running the latest iTunes then you already have that new visualizer.

Excellent point. But would someone (part of your "most people") who is currently not aware of that, all-of-the-sudden CARE about it today...?

To answer my own question: ...Perhaps, maybe, just becuase it's like "Oooh Plus! I can have my CDs import Plus now? Plus sounds good. I'm'a click that!"

Still, I'm wondering if there is anything truly "new" about this feature... or if Apple is just being cheesy and recasting a current feature as a "new" one.

I have a 245GB iTunes library. Mostly it is CDs ripped to Apple Losses. about 12,000 tracks. iTunes is not slow at all on my 24" iMac. The library lives on a 1TB Segate disk connected via FW800. I can scroll through the entire library about as fast as I can move the mouse. searches for a composer or band have zero lag time. hard to see how it could be faster.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have more tracks than this in an iTunes library? Personally, I'm just interested in music tracks.

I have 26,400 tracks in iTunes - 650 films 490 TV shows total size 1.5TB all pretty fast from FireWire Drobo :)

Love the idea of 'no-thinking' TV watching. Sometimes, after a long day, that's exactly what you want. One or two clicks and relax with whatever sensible (or not) vid pops up!

Yes - because that's what TV needs: less thinking. ;)

This is way minor, but I'm hoping for better navigation in Complete My Album. I have 454 albums available, and all I can do is rank them various ways and hit "More."

Personally, I find it useful - found a few good things off the store with it (as well as being an easy way of seeing if an artist as brought out anything I haven't got). I also use the genius playlist quite a bit when I'm not in the mood for the randomness of shuffle. Not that it's perfect in this regard of course.

Does anybody know if they will fix the Airtunes problem????

It's so annoying when the songs cut out all the time.

I don't use it very often, but sometimes I'm really really in the mood for a specific song, but I don't wanna listen to the same thing over and over again, so I see what Genius comes up with to go along with it. But usually I don't use it.

Apple Remote for iPhone and touch has just been updated in apps store ready for 8.1

An iTunes update is always a good thing as far as I'm concerned. And I'd assume that the speed boosts will be more prominent for older computers, like G4's.

33,000+ tracks, 1200 movies, 3500+ TV Shows, various applications and Podcasts, 3.5TB of data in all on an external FW 800 array. iTunes startup is slow, which is to be expected, but browsing, playing, streaming is ok. Still a little pokey, even on a fast machine with a local library, though.

With a library as big as mine, I'm still hoping for some kind of "sync" feature that lets me take a subset of my library with my on my Air, like I do with my iPhone. Would make it easier than having duped tracks and libraries - pretty annoying - Damn RIAA.
