that genius bar is terrible.... I hardly ever buy any CD *cough* *cough* but that reccomendation is so tempting... hell I will maybe buy my first CD from iTS

(but yeah, I will have to lie to apple anyway, I'm not from US so I had to make up some US address to register on US iTS)

I like the sidebar better than the previous itunes recommendations at that bottom of the window. the grid view is fantastic too. it makes album much easy to spot. it might be the first time that one itunes feature does not try to kill the LP format to benefit single songs.

"Go download it manually like EVERYBODY ELSE HAS."

I also prefer to install it through Software Update. Where is it, Apple?

Is anyone else unable to connect to airport express speakers since running the update??? Mine have failed since upgrading....

My Genius "gathering info" step seems to be stuck halfway through... my library isn't HUGE ... 3200 songs, and 6000 audio book files (lots of little bits of long books). You'd think Apple would be smart enough to ignore things flagged as audio books in the Genius recommendations...

The new visualizer is cool. Normally I don't ever use visualizers, but this one is neat.

I don't know how much it's known, I discovered it while ago. You just have to open the file in QuickTime (with perian installed!!) and save it as reference. The reference is small file, something like a link, but with .mov. But you can put this reference file to iTunes - iTunes somehow thinks it's genuine QuickTime movie.

You can't move it to iPod/iPhone, but you can click on "convert to iPod" (or something like this) in iTunes, which converts the file to iPod QuickTime format (but it takes some time).

(I also made an AppleScript that does this automatically)

Interesting, although my mac mini needs repairing so no use to me at the moment unless you can do it on pc, but thanks for the info anyway.

It wont even let me add new artwork...on top of that my iphone 3g just crashed (for the 5th time) so when I went to restore it said i dont have the right software, looks like itunes 8 wont let me restore until 2.1 comes out on friday, I remember when apple was solid....

You can't drag and drop new artwork in grid view but if you right click and get info it allows you to add it that way.

Has anyone noticed that when you click on the HD TV Shows button that the page it loads (HDTV) has "Music" has a parent in the breadcrumb trail? I thought HDTV would be under the TV Shows section.

Not impressed with the genius - it only gives you short clips of the recommended songs unlike things like last.fm that let you hear the whole track. The recommendations are a bit strange also...

Genius playlists I haven't worked out the point of yet... maybe I'll get it eventually. Looks like a slightly refined party shuffle.

The bad point for me is the dropping of the album view in favour of the (far less useful IMO) grid layout. Not sure what the thinking is here being able to list albums but not tracks?

Well I've just switched over to my parents profile (shared computer) and iTunes 8 seems to be working perfectly. The hover-over playback works fine and the Genius playlist works perfectly with the selected track appearing at the top of the playlist... Why would iTunes 8 be working fine on their profile, but not on mine???

And another thing on their iTunes you can only have the Genius playlist displayed as list or coverflow. But mine's displayed in the Grid mode.

I'm flummoxed...

Double click on the thumbnail and you see the original album layout.

Yeah, I like the new visualizer too. They do need that on the AppleTV (running on AirTunes). That'd be killer.

Grid View - I like it but I don't like how when you click into a genre it switches to album list view. Why doesn't it stay as a album grid view?

AppleTV - before, whenever I would turn on iTunes on my media server, my AppleTV menu would be almost unresponsive for around 15 min (even after the sync had finished). The menus are now semi-responsive during the sync and immediately back for me when done syncing. Thank you!

AppleTV Syncing - why can't they let me turn this off after I've sync'd it once and don't need to sync anymore? Just like you can do with the iPhone in the Pref's.

Leopard Frontrow - I noticed there was an update for my Leopard Frontrow to add iTunes 8 compatibility. Anybody see what this is? I wonder if Backrow on my AppleTV will soon need to be updated as well?

So for the UK then....

No HD TV stuff (yet).

Booooooo. Back to Pirate bay then.

Love the new visualizer though.

Grumble, grumble...

Not happy so far. :(

iTunes 8 doesn't seem to be able to do a whole heap - on my machine at least - without hanging. I've had it maybe half a dozen times now. Simple stuff too: launching a song from within album (sub-grid) view, or attempting to edit multiple information for songs. Force quitting the process and parent processes still leaves the application live in the Dock and I am unable to relaunch without a restart which, incidentally, has to be a hard restart because of the application being live, and seemingly unquittable, in the Dock.

Almost, but not quite, enough to make me rate this thread negative. Couldn't bring myself to do it - fear of the flames ;-)

*whispers something about 'public beta'*

Anyone experiencing anything similar?

Derwood
