Whatever is being launched today is drawing attention on radio stations too. Radio One and Galaxy105 in England are all mentioning a Movie download service. Nothing amazingly new i know but if it is being mentioned in UK as movie downloads then its most likely not just a US movie store. Just hope they get some damn TV shows on there too.

jeeeez, can't wait!! they have to announce a portable media player, such as a widescreen ipod with w-lan access, that'll be awesome.... still 2 hours to go  com'on guys

no one else is responding to this!? that's a great find!

also, check this out: when you click a movie (or any itunes music store link right now), you are sent to this site: http://phobos.apple.com/showtime/showtime.html.

"phobos"? The first moon of Mars, or the son of the Greek God Ares (literally meaning "fear")?

Signifcance?

Yes.

Phobos is the sub-directory where you are redirected to open the iTunes app.

Normally I would agree but streams are usually put up a few hours after the keynote. This one is already set-up with an audio test signal.

But that's exactly what's wrong with this particular stream. Apple never put the stream link button on the page before the stream was available before.

And if it's really all about selling movies online today, they better be able to stream the keynote to a few Apple fans. If they can't even do that, imagine the general public trying to download movies.

Apple's displays are ~16:10 so as to allow for video content to be displayed as well as palettes and stuff for editing the video.

Could we be seeing a live stream?

ps I apologise if this has been posted. It's late here in Aus.

This is a joke site, correct?

Do I get bonus points for being the first one to question the authenticity of that link? :)

I used to be easily fooled by fakes, but finally after years of following Macrumors I've learned to trust no one, especially right before a media event/keynote. :D

Certainly some of the info out there about the event must be correct, if nothing else just the law of probability says so. :)

Can't be too new, people have already reviewed it. But here's something weird: any search query in the apple store just brings you to apple.com. Are they hiding something? :p
And now i tried it again and searching works. i used like 3 diff. search terms before. oh well. nvm

maybe that's why they are doing it.. test it all out? sounds a plausible theory

This has been noticed. However, surely the fact it's still called iTunes store shouldn't be ignored?

Could we be looking at the launch of the iMovie store???

Isn't "iTunes Movie Store" a wee bit incongruous?

Nope. It should be ignored. The name will stay, it's too huge a brand to change.

The gizmodo "leak" has already been posted elsewhere, I think it's just an educated guess. Should be fairly close, but things like pricing and the name (TubePort???) are probably wrong (hopefully).

Just to let ya'll know, if there's a new iPod today (likely), RadioShack is claiming (not publicly, but internally) that they will have accessories for it as early as 30 days before any other retailer is able to get them in stock. I don't know if these are third party accessories (seems like that'd be a hard promise to make) or Apple accessories (more likely) but that could point to the possibility of more official accessories, and possibly some very interesting ones.

Probably not a big deal, but worth mentioning.

i like the showmanship and suspense.

apple is doing a good job at hype today. without being over the top.

my bet is that the offerings will be quality and better than the other competing first to market movie services.

And ct2000 for posting a link to a page that has had the same effect for two years.

I'm getting so frustrated with the newbies tonight. Guys, if you're new and you think you have new information, you don't. We're right on top of the info here.

serious superiority complex...

be nice to the noobs.
look at me, i'm a noob and i hold all the information that all of you desire.
sit tight and be nice to one another.
