I dunno. The first I'd ever heard of Apple upgrading every 27" was via a poster here (you?). That wouldn't be very cost effective to give $30 to every customer in their database. They gave it to a lot of people but I wouldn't get too overly worried. Once it moves it'll be at your home pretty quick.
Yeah. Like I said, I'm not concerned about when it will get here as much because I have en estimated delivery date that is one day before what Apple originally quoted me when I placed the order. Also, I didn't pay for the express shipping, therefor I'm not losing out on anything. The only think that's an annoyance to me is that the Apple reps were telling people this, and telling people that their iMacs were shipping Express, and that all of them were, in fact. I realize that yeah, it wouldn't have been economical, so I still sort of doubted it a tiny bit, but when you hear it from four different Apple techs.
Honestly. There is nothing any of us can do to change the timescale of these things arriving into our respective countries now. Once in the hands of a local delivery hub - perhaps we could change stuff. But they will be palettes up waiting for flights sealed with documents.
Why fight something we cannot change?
I've deliberately left myself a few new iMac arrival type jobs to do for these last few days. I'm certain that this time next week ill be lying in bed looking at a beautiful shiny new iMac.
I'm even feeling positive about it arriving without fault
I don't think Appke have got it right. They haven't handled thus well. However. Telling them that will not make it arrive faster. It might get you a £50 cash ack or free drive or whatever. - but it won't give you what you want
I've lost over 10k these last few weeks in turned down work. £50 isn't going to cover it.
They've shipped loads these last 3 days. There's bound to be some hold ups getting them out. Yeah I'm impatient and called Apple to ask if it really would take another week. But they can't change it. At least bit 'til it lands in your country.
Just a little more patience needed
I hoping mine will arrive without fault too, well, everyone is I would assume. Like you said though, it's not use fighting what we can't change. If it does arrive with defects, then we go to plan B, which for some people included shipping it back for a replacement, or just getting a refund, or like me, possibly consider going with an entirely different computer.
For the Macbook Pro 15 retina, there's a terminal command to give the display type. Can't be done on the 13 retina.
On the iMac, just go to Spotlight and type in System Information, and in Storage under Hardware, Physical Volumes shows the code for it. So I have the Samsung SSD (SM128E) a WD blue 1TB drive. WD10EALX
Yeah, I can't remember the command off the top of my head, but it's easy to find here on the forum. You said you were able to see the hard drive information through "About This Mac"? You didn't see anything relating to the display did you? Other than the usual 2880x1440 Resolution, and such and such.. I was hoping that there was a website with a system, or a way that folks at the Apple store could check those stats by Serial Number. I mean, I'm sure there's a way to do it, but I don't know of it yet. That would save people a lot of hassle when it comes to finding one with a Samsung display, and it would save Apple some money, not having to deal with computers returned right after the lid's flipped up...
Didn't @large farva get a super drive for free? His signature says freebie.
So waiting one or two days extra shouldn't be a problem
You could have asked me. Unless of course you were stating it to the others in an attempt to make me look like a dick. Which is understandable, because I guess I MIGHT have come off a bit, I don't know, pissy? Like I said a couple posts ago, if you would like to take a look at them, I mentioned that I'm not that concerned with the time it's taking to get to me, as I only selected Standard Shipping in the first place, the thing I'm concerned with is why Apple reps are telling people that their computers are shipping out with the upgraded shipping. Four different ones told me mine was, and that all 27" iMacs were. There's nothing that can be done now obviously, and personally even if I could somehow have it changed to express while in transit, I wouldn't do it, because the extra talking to Apple reps or FedEx and such just isn't worth, 2 days... Like someone said below your post there, we all want our new machines, pretty badly. Some absolutely NEED them, because they are turning down work and losing a lot of money, and some WANT them really badly. Either way, it just stings a little bit to be told that you're getting something, just to find out your not. That's all. Oh, and yes I did receive a free SuperDrive, it arrived today actually. I have it sitting right where my iMac will be sitting, as a place holder if you will...
By the way, I just would like to apologize to folks that may have taken offense to my pissy attitude. I've explained myself in the above and before (separate) posts. It's not just this iMac I'm concerned with, I'm going though a little slice of Hell right now, me and my family are. And that just fueled some of my rantish behavior and had me in a not-great mood upon logging on here in the first place.
