I really wish he would though. I think Jimmy Fallon is far and away the best of the late shows currently on. It is certainly the only one that I ever care to watch (I just wish it were not on so late and no I do not have a dvr).
You can't be serious, Fallon is the worst of them all.
NBC also said Leno's 10pm show was safe the other day.

EDIT:

Also read that Zucker threatened to keep Conan off the air for 3.5 years, the balance of his contract. So his end game appears to be Leno back on Tonight, Conan out and kept off the air long enough for Leno to settle back in and take the rating crown.
I wonder what is in Conan's contract and what was breached by bringing Leno back. When this deal was reached 5 years ago Leno was supposed to be long gone.

The way I heard it was NBC would let Conan out of his deal.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ent.../01/carey-and-ailes-on-conan-notes-draft.html
Ailes, who oversees the Fox's television stations as well as the Fox News Channel, thought that a move into late night would not be without a financial hit.

"It's a tough time period," Ailes said, The Fox stations, which include KTTV-TV Los Angeles and WNYW-TV New York, carry expensive reruns at 11 p.m., which is probably where the network would want to put O'Brien if they were to land him. Ailes said the stations' contracts for programming would have to be written off. Ailes declined to discuss the late-night situation further, saying, "I don't want to influence discussions."

Clearing the time periods with the Fox stations and the network's affiliates is just one hurdle. Fox would also have to build or lease a studio, spend millions promoting O'Brien and probably have to pay NBC to get the network to release him from his deal there.

In other words, it's not as easy as walking off NBC one night and popping up on Fox the next night. The earliest O'Brien could land on Fox would be September and more likely would be January 2011, if not later.

Leno now NBC's image problem. And how long before Conan lands on Fox?

The problem with Leno's show is that it is just a watered down version of the Tonight Show. To get people's attention you have to do something different. To compete with big budget dramas the show needs a bigger budget also. NBC tried to do save money by doing things on the cheap and failed. Leno could stay at the earlier slot, perhaps as a 30 minute show, but needs a dramatically different format. Switching time slots around again only will make things worse in the long run.

Alternatively, sell the Tonight Show with Conan to Fox or ABC. Then they at least recover some cash out of the loss of Conan which would happen anyways. Then put Leno up against Conan after the news and live with it.

Letterman is one lucky guy. First, Tiger Woods, and now this whole NBC debacle will only make people forget about Letterman's embarrassing affair with his female staff completely. Letterman is fully restored now, that is, if he wasn't already before this Leno-Conan topic.

What I think should happen:

-since NBC already screwed up, give Leno the show for 5 more years. Let Conan go and jump to Fox. He will split the ratings with Leno & Letterman but that is the consequence for NBCs errors.

-after that I would give the show to the perfect person for the job: Tina Fey

Tina fey is quick on her feet, extremely intellingent (unlike Leno), she was a writer at SNL/30Rock, can be quirky, unpredictable and I think she's really cute. She'd also be the first daily female late night host.

Sounds like Leno is taking over the Tonight Show and NBC is gonna try to keep O'Brian off TV for 3 1/2 years leaving him out in the cold.

"Conan, who hasn’t RSVP’d to Dave’s peeps, would have plenty of time to craft some shtick for “The Late Show” since the network brass plan to keep him off the air for three-and-a-hal years for his insolent behavior, according to Deadline.com/Hollywood."

Hes been nailing them pretty hard on his show lately, I hope they just release him so he can be funny on some other station where he can have more freedom.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.

LOL, sure she'd kill everyone in ratings but I'm sure many men will complain why their wives are either crying or complaining why they don't pay attention to them while the husbands are looking for sex before bedtime.

I think the smart move is Tina Fey.

I was referring to the masturbating Dr. Phil.

This wouldn't surprise me one bit. It happened to a pretty big local radio host here in Dallas. The network would rather pay out the contact so as not to have to compete with the lost star at another network. They won't have the same star power when they finally do return and will have to rebuild an audience. Three years is a long time in the world of television or radio. Although, there is always the possibility that someone would buy out the contract to have Conan available ASAP.

It just sounds like sour grapes by NBC. They screwed up and now want to make Conan look like the bad guy and try to let lap dog leno save face.

The only ones with insolent behavior is NBC.

You won't see Conan on TV again for at least a year. That will give NBC time to relaunch Leno and allow time for people to forget.

I read that it would cost FOX (of whoever wanted to create a new show) more than $70 million just to start up an 11:30pm show. And that figure does not include the fees the local FOX stations would have to pay to get our of their contractual obligations to show whatever reruns they are airing now. I don't see Conan going to FOX. He really is odd man out here.

I don't think Leno comes out clean here. I believe a lot of resentment will carry over and hurt the Leno/Tonight Show brand.

I bet we see Conan doing a lot of appearances or specials so his name stays public. He is not going to go away quietly. Would Fox sign him up to do half hour shows that are cheap to make to hold people over until his late night show.

I think Leno will be fine. His audience was 2 million people larger than Conan's although Conan did better in the 18-thirty something (??) demographic.

I think NBC got exactly what NBC wanted if it plays out with Leno back on the Tonight Show and Conan gone. Their 10pm problem is huge though. How is Zucker still employed?

I'm thinking Conan might. Just might join CBS and replace Ferguson.

I really doubt you're going to see Conan take a show if it means the current host gets fired/moved to a worse time slot. After what he went through with Leno, he's not going to destroy all of the support he has from his fans by doing what Leno did to him to another host.

How is he an odd man out? I suppose in the sense that Fox has no late night presence right now and he'd have a unique role within Fox. But it's not like his style of humor would clash with Fox's other sitcoms.

I don't know if that's what NBC wanted. I think they thought that by giving Leno five years' notice, that he'd be ready to quit by now. I get the feeling that they guessed that by 2009, the "Tonight Show" would need a refresh, Conan would be ready to take over, and Leno would be OK with moving on. None of those things turned out to be true. Again, I don't particularly care for Leno, but he was No. 1 in that time slot with no reason to think that would change. I think that when 2009 finally came, NBC was ready to replace Leno, but suddenly realized that except for their obligation to give it to Conan, they had little reason to do so.

So now NBC will have to pay more to buy off Conan, takes a huge PR hit, and has to rush more programs into the last primetime slot. Probably not "exactly what NBC wanted." Unless you meant something else.

Ferguson has decent ratings. Don't forget Letterman owns Ferguson's show. I don't think Conan wants a 12:30 time again. He wants 11:30.
