So every plus got it. Why people can't just deal with it? It's a phone you bought, not a Mercedes lol.

So I went to the Apple Store to checkout the Jet Black 7 (not the Plus). Looking closely, it has it as well (although my girlfriend's response was 'I can't even see that, you're insane.' But it is there and I doubt Apple is going to change anything. Since the Plus is larger, it's just more obvious.

My wife's has it and she doesn't mind that much but it bugs the hell out of me. Glad I went matte black. She said she might replace it if there are normal ones. 7 Plus.

Yeah I definitely think once you notice, you just can't unsee it. Mines under direct light is extremely eye catching. But like I said from the start, I just want to know if every JB is like this and if they are, then its not an issue and ill just return it for a matte black. Im still waiting to see what Apple says

I have a week 39 JB+ arriving on Monday - I will report back if that has it or not. :)

I was going to do the same - I had a Matte Black 7+ 256GB reserved to replace my Jet Black. After owning the Jet Black for two weeks, the Matte Black (this is the first time I've seen it in person) looks kinda meh in comparison. Couldn't make the switch!

Please do!

I haven't seen the Matte Black in person, but I wouldnt mind making a switch if I had to. I just want to confirm if this is a flaw or if the jet black naturally has these imperfections

Well, nobody with the non-Plus JB has really come forward to report the rather periodic machining marks seen on the JB Plus.

The lip should normally be a brushed finish and it shouldn't catch light in a rather periodic manner. We'll see if Apple will eventually fix this issue to make it in line with the standard JB 7.

I should've taken a photo at the Apple Store - the JB non-plus on display had this issue (although very difficult to see).

Very difficult to see? You're aware that the normal finish is brushed? The lip isn't supposed to be smooth but brushed just like the brushed grain on brushed stainless steel. However, brushed finish isn't supposed to catch light in a rather periodic manner like what the pics of the JB Plus are showing.

What I'm saying is, the non-plus JB iPhone had the same periodic-mannered finish as the Plus JBs in this thread (mine included).

I bet Apple will eventually correct this "issue" to make it on par with the JB standard 7, and you should in theory be able to swap it out under warranty.

I really hope this is the case as I was looking to replace mine in like half a year under warranty for all the widespread issues they currently have.

What is your sample size (apart from your own phone)?

My wife's non-plus JB iPhone shows nothing of the kind. It is perfectly smooth along the edges, where the case meets the display.

In fact, I'm so impressed with the JB finish and its apparent durability (no marks on it whatsoever yet) that I'm 100% certain that's what I'll get, if my time ever comes. I have to wait another month for my contract's first year to be up, and then who knows how long for my carrier to get stock :(

The biggest selling point for me (I'm never sold on looks alone) is the much better grip. My 6S+ has taken a number of drops already, simply because it slipped from my hand. I hope it survives another month without cracks, so I can swap it for a new one.

So you are now rest the case? If a normal 7 demo shows it, every JB will have it. They might fix it or they might not. We'll see. :) Your gf was right :p

My standard 7 has the brushed finish on the lip but not the rather periodic machining marks that catch light so nope.

You are prolly missing it or it's because a normal 7 is a whole different case, process and even another machine that's creating it. If Bizsak said that even a demo has it, I'm believing it. But hey, I understand you. It doesn't botter me and imo it's not an issue.

I think most here people agree that what we're trying to figure out if this is indeed a flaw or not. I personally do not mind keeping the phone if this is how apple expects it to be made and delivered. But I honestly have my doubts that this is how they're suppose to look. I should have an answer by Tuesday from apple on this.

I know in my specific case the irregularities are pretty bad. If apple admits it's defective then I guess there's a tolerable level of machining marks that will or will not pass QC.

It sounds like JB Plus owners such as yourself and Bizsak are rationalizing your purchase by hoping that even the standard JB 7 has it. Bizsak even said that it's barely noticeable, but I wonder if that means less noticeable compared to the Plus or if he was simply looking at the brushed finish and expecting it to be smooth. Brushed finishes are not supposed to catch light in a rather periodic manner.

Yeah, exactly. If apple informs me that this is how they're made, then that's fine (which at that point we still have to address the hissing). But I'm assuming that there's tolerable amounts of marks that they allow to pass quality control.

If you guys look on instagram #jetblack and watch all iPhones with the lightning falling on the side, you will even see that every iPhone JB has it. I saw even iPhone 7 non-plus with it.

With the hissing I would instantly replace.

Are you just copy-paste your reactions? I saw your sentence like 5 times.

I'm definitely not trying to rationalize a purchase - I have a replacement coming from Apple. If it has it (which I'm quite sure it will at this point) I'll keep the phone. But Apple at least has some level of concern in that they're sending a replacement and would like to to take a look at my current phone. I was just wondering if the standard 7 had it (I had a Matte Black reserved, and I could've taken that, but I didn't).

Well, here's a bombshell...

Took delivery of two Jet Black Pluses today and both of them show no signs of irregularities.

Pictures incoming, please hold...

EDIT: To clarify it was me who earlier in the thread showed images of my week 38 device with the machining effect and supposed that my week 39 devices - arriving today - might not have it. Indeed, it appears something has changed!
