I agree. Still no update from Apple. If my return date nears and no resolution has been reached, I'll ultimately have to settle for a return or an exchange to another color. One Apple rep suggest I keep returning them every 14 days until Jet Black is available, but Im not going to go through that just for a phone. Besides, Im sure Apple has a limit of how many phones you can possible return in one lifetime before they just ban you overall
I contacted Apple and sent photos. They're sending me a replacement unit (white box but not refurbished) and consider this a cosmetic defect that they want to 'capture.' I'll report back if the replacement unit does or doesn't have this same problem.
This is definitely not how Apple expects the phone to look.

What process did you go through to contact them? I am currently awaiting an email from the "shipping department" which only communicates via email. They said it can take up to 48 hours. Everyone else I've spoken to or chatted with hasn't been much help

I was lucky. I had the contact info of an Apple Executive Relations Rep who worked with me during the IUP 'process' for ordering an iPhone 7. I reached out to them and they put me in touch with a separate Apple Executive Relations Rep who looked at my photos and immediately offered a repair or a replacement. I was transferred to the replacement team and had a hold placed on my credit card today. I suggest going that route (you could email Tim Cook - that's how I originally got in touch with the Exec team).
When I spoke to a 'normal' Rep I got the same treatment as you - not possible, no stock, Jet Black scratches easily, etc.

Maybe you guys can return the phone because the jet black color is too shiny? Or maybe to dark?

Pretty sure if the edges of your phone looked like this, you'd return it.
Nope. Mine looks like that--in the perfect orientation and in the perfect light. Under normal conditions and lighting it's not noticeable at all.

Forgot this was Macrumors. Okay, there are those of us that would not like a defective phone.

If I had a jet black, I wouldn't want these imperfections, either. But then again, the phone will get all scratched up anyway eventually so it doesn't matter.

Agree 100%. Some people need help...

Mine doesn't have this thank goodness... but that noisy sound while recording video and running tasks -./

When you look in a specific lightcondition you will see it anyway. BTW noisy sound while recording... thats a problem is comparing to this.

Yeah and that's YOUR scenario. However on my phone, it's extremely noticeable. Whether it bothers you or not is relative to your preference. I personally paid for my phone (almost 1000) and these imperfections are extremely visible on my specific phone. Rest of it is up for discussion.

That is not the case because you have people reporting that their phone do not have these imperfections. So whether or not it's a little deal to you, doesn't matter. Your phone wasn't affected so keep moving and get some help with what YOU spend your time on.

Like I said before... I got it aswell on my phone and it doesn't botter me. If I had a real issue like hissgate or dead pixel or even a crack in the body, then I would swap. But not for this.

Hopefully you will learn a wise lesson and you will get a new phone with a real defect. And not some "i dont like what my eyes see" defect. That's just my opinion.

I think most threads people argue for no reason. Anyways, I don't notice the irregularities with this device. I think that's a winner. However, that mic/static noise whatever it is. That is an issue.

Well if you read the thread you would realize mine is also suffering from the "hiss-gate" problem. So that's why I posted this thread. I hadn't seen the issue reported

Took delivery of two Week 38 (i.e. last week) JB+ and both have it.

Whether you like it or not, at least for now this "issue" is par for the course.

Yeah, sounds like all JB Plus units are affected, but nobody with the JB non-Plus units has come forward so far.

I bet Apple will eventually correct this "issue" to make it on par with the JB standard 7, and you should in theory be able to swap it out under warranty.

That sounds very probable. I should note I also have two 4.7" Jet Black iPhones and both exhibit slight irregularities on the edges but nothing like the Plus.

These irregularities are called brushed grain. The lip isn't supposed to be smooth, but a brushed finish just like the brushed grain you see on brushed stainless steel. However, it's not supposed to catch light in a rather periodic manner because brushed finishes aren't supposed to do that.
