Wrong light position.

Still in denial, huh? This is the same member who posted a pic of his JB Plus with the machining effect earlier in the thread (see below) and also reported that he has two 4.7" JB units that don't suffer from this machining issue.

Do you have it btw?

My 4.7" JB doesn't suffer from this machining effect either. In fact, no 4.7" JB owners have come forward to post a picture so it appears to affect mostly the Plus units.

I have it and my moms phone got it. But our device is perfectly working and has no hissing or other problems. I think the chance will be very big that I get a replacement which has the same "issue". It's only visible when im standing under a light or searching for it.

I can live with it. Maybe I have bad luck tomorrow and I drop the phone. Then it would have damage en scratches. It's even worse then imo. What's your opinion?

I always say that perfection doesn't excist. It's made by humans for humans.

Got my week 39 JB plus today and I can confirm that it definitely does not have this issue and I've checked it in great detail under various angles of light.

Interesting. I don't think Macrumors is in any way, shape or form a large enough sample size to validate or invalidate this (we'd have to have around 500 samples). Right now the only thing we can conclude is there is no conclusion. Although my personal hypothesis is that Apple did/does not intend on these 'ridges' being visible.

Well, here's a bombshell...

Took delivery of two Jet Black Pluses today and both of them show no signs of irregularities.

Pictures incoming, please hold...

EDIT: To clarify it was me who earlier in the thread showed images of my week 38 device with the machining effect and supposed that my week 39 devices - arriving today - might not have it. Indeed, it appears something has changed!
Thank you so much for posting this. This shows me that this in fact not how they're intended to leave the factory. It's either they do or they don't, and since yours came out perfect (as all other previous 6, 6S models), I believe its indeed a defect

Im going to take a picture of mine under the sun tomorrow for all those who want to see how obvious it is under light. It almost looks like the phone has endured 1 full year of scratches and nicks

No worries. Debating what to do with the affected device now. It was from a third party seller which complicates matters. :(

Those are speed waves! They make the phone go faster! I base that on as much scientific evidence as anything else here on an internet forum, so I must be right!

Frankly you should pay Apple extra. Maybe send in a check???

If Ceramic does happen, there would be shortages for months and months. And what would be the difference in producing Ceramic, say compared to aluminum? I think the cost factors would be the scariest part.
Apple could easily make a higher-end iPhone and price it accordingly. Even at $1500+ I'm sure it would sell well.

As much as I'd love to see it, going by the Watch pricing structure a ceramic iPhone would be more like $3500!

Apple already made it clear they can sell high end electronics, when the priced the Apple Watch Edition at $10,000. Sure, they sold some units, being some have high end expendable income. But in terms of reality and an $1500.00 iPhone, it would appeal to a various demographic. But the majority may or may not want to drop that amount on a Ceramic iPhone. Could Apple manufacture a ceramic iPhone, yes. Will the average consumer spend this amount for an iPhone? Some will, but I feel the majority won't. Unless they consider financing as an option.

$1500? Screw that. :D

I think Apple is going cheap the last years. Every new device I had in the last years got something what's not right. But I won't return it for this.

There's always something. The chance is big nowadays with the new way of apple that I get a faulty replacement.

If I may be honest, it was a bad idea that I came on this forum. I have the feeling that it makes me sick. If i read every article in here I will get wicko. A friend lost his father this month and then I'm realising that Im worrying that my phone got some reflection on the bezels?! It's just a phone anyway. And next year I buy a new one.

This issue doesnt affect the phone. It only affects what our eyes want to see. But I keep saying it, perfection doesnt excist.

Tomorrow your replacement can have a real issue like battery, screen, death pixel, big scratch in the back, hissgate, ...

It will sell anyway even with this issue. I sold my 6s plus 64gb for 650 euros. It felt more then I even felt in my life. It had scratches like roads and it still sold.

It's a phone guys, an object and it has no value in comparing with the real things in life.

Went from a matte black iPhone 7+ to a Jet Black. The Jet Black phone makes a rattling sound when you press a little bit harder than normal towards the top of the device, or on the back of the device. Anyone else out there with this? My regular black didn't make these sounds or felt like this

This is what I mean that every device got something. I wouldn't mind if I was you mate. Does it bother you? Is it worth for you to replace it? Maybe I have it aswell but I didnt test it yet.

My iPhone is a week 40 and has the marks really bad down the left hand side of the phone.

I can live with it until Apple haas more stock to replace, but the screen is what is killing my eyes!

I'd just like to row back slightly on this post.

The photos you see were from one device I had which does not appear to have the machine issues. I didn't look as closely at the second device as I presumed it would be identical - being from the same Apple order and I suppose production batch.

The second model, on closer inspection, has it quite noticeably.

So this issue seems to appear without a particular pattern.

So one week 39 unit doesn't have the machining marks and another week 39 unit has them. Sounds like inconsistent QC.

The only pattern we've seen so far is this seems to affect mostly the Plus units. Hopefully Apple will eventually get around to fixing it.

I see what's going on here. It's like the screen lottery. But imo this is not as bad as the screen lottery. It's not a big deal at all.

Few friends of me noticed they all have hissgate. That's a real issue. I'm thankful i dont have the hiss. I heard it today for the first time on their phones and it was pretty loud, damn!

Jet Black Plus here. Mine has this. Noticed it immediately when I opened it. Didn't think much of it until I found this thread. Mine also had a tiny little scratch right out of the box. Maybe I should have stuck with my Note 7....
