So one week 39 unit doesn't have the machining marks and another week 39 unit has them. Sounds like inconsistent QC.

The only pattern we've seen so far is this seems to affect mostly the Plus units. Hopefully Apple will eventually get around to fixing it.
I know next to nothing about manufacturing and QC but surely the manufacturing process should be one that only rarely results in these unsightly marks. Perhaps we could argue that the manufacturing process for Jet Pluses is just not ready for prime time yet? It would explain the acute shortage, and it would explain why the 4.7" models are relatively plentiful whilst the Plus is nigh-on nonexistent in inventory despite them having the same finish.

This is on big scale. I saw a video of techrax today and he had it aswell. If you see the #jetblack you will find a lot people with the same "issue" when the photos got the right light on it. Now, they dont seem to notice it and just like me they dont care.

I think JB was decided at the last moment. I never saw a rumor about it.

My original jetblack 7+ was perfect except for a blemish on the camera lens straight outta the box. Got it replaced and the replacment phone has these same exact irregularities. Will try to take a photo at home.

Well, here's the evidence guys. For Apple this is NOT an issue. If you get a replacement phone and it has it, it be so.

Illuminated, be happy with this one. It not that worse as a blemish on the camera lens. That blesh would decrease the working of your camera. Sorry for my bad english. I'm from Europe.

So if someone reports getting a replacement iPhone with this issue, you jump on it and claim it's not an issue. However, if someone reports getting a replacement iPhone that does NOT have this issue, you either keep quiet or deny it.

We don't know if Apple considers this an issue. We'll find out if they eventually fix it down the line.

Like I said to you already more times then the american flag got stars... this is probably the least worst issue an iPhone can have. It has totally no effect on the working of a device and you only can see it when you exceptionally searching for it.

The senior advisor I was dealing with got back to me and said he thought it looked like the waterproofing seal, I told him I didn't think so because this was a part of the aluminum itself and he offered to replace it no questions asked. We set up an express replacement last night, and my phone has already shipped today.

Very impressed at the speed, I'll have it tomorrow. Not bad for a 128 GB jet black 7+.

Did you replace the iPhone for this? Prolly you get a replacement with same "issue". You got ocd for sure.

If it's one thing I've learned hanging out in phone forums, it's that approximately 98% of users have OCD, diagnosed or not. :D

It's not normal anymore lol. Is this the lifestyle of Americans? Because in Europe we call this sickness, damn! Haha

Honestly, it doesn't make sense to swap out at this point because it's pretty much a lottery whether the replacement iPhone has this issue. It'd just be like opening boxes after boxes of the Black and Slate iPhone 5 at launch time to try to find the needle in the hay (without factory-induced nicks and scratches).

I'd wait several months to see if Apple eventually gets around to fixing this issue. In fact, when I received my factory-damaged Black and Slate iPhone 5, I contacted Apple Support and informed them of my intention to swap out at a later date. They were happy to annotate it in their system.

Huh... I had my replacement authorized on Sept 28th but it hasn't shipped yet (256 GB JB 7+). Wondering how you got yours so fast!

Good to hear. I would wager the replacement will have it though.

So many variables involved - country, model, etc. Also if yours wasn't a white box/express replacement then it'll just be in the 6-8 week queue. The express replacements are from a non-retail stock for AppleCare+ customers and various other things.

(Edited for tragically dumb spelling error :p )

You also replaced it for this? LOL. Sometimes I hope you guys will ever get a ban from Apple. You guys replace phones for little things. Shame yourselves.

Mine is indeed an express replacement - I have a hold on my credit card for the full price of the phone.

I'm leaving this thread and give this thread an OCD level of 10 (maximum). It's because of you guys that Apple will get a stronger policy when you once a real defect. I hope your replacement got the same "issue" and you will run arround with a refurb iPhone. Damn!

Mine was just recalled today, it was requested to be "captured" by engineers at Apple. So this flaw is something Apple definitely wants to look at. I will have an answer tomorrow for how the replacement will take place.

What configuration do you have?

I'm expecting my 256gb jet black plus sometime this week and if it has this, is scratched or hisses on videos then it will be going back - If we're paying £920 for this phone why should we accept a sub standard product? I've waited a month so what's a few more days or weeks if you get a decent phone in the end to me it would be worth it.

Unlike some on here I won't be getting a new phone next year or the year after that and maybe not even the year after that therefore I expect it to be perfect. I've got a clear wrap, screen protector and a clear case because I look after my things.

Nothing ocd about expecting the plus to have the same finish as the 7.

Go to the clinic, get yourself helped. You just bought a phone, not a car. People on this forum are sick and got OCD for sure. Get help before it's too late.

Received my replacement in the mail today, absolutely zero signs of this "defect." I'm guessing the phones aren't supposed to be this way. Restoring my new phone now.

Wow. I have this too. Should I demand a swap? I feel like they might tell me no at the store. I saw it right away but didn't think much of it until I saw this thread. Do you think Apple will continue to warrant this defect beyond the 14 days? Maybe do a chat and document my concern now and swap sometime down the road? It's not really bothering me but hey if you are getting a new one so should I!

Can confirm that the first thing I noticed upon opening the box of my JB 7+ was the machining irregularities just as in that photo. Glad to see it's not just me. Not super worried about it due to IUP, but I guess I should at least open a support case. Bigger worry I have is the overheating near the camera housing.
