another mistake by apple to let him go. apple music might not make it without him

Did you also laugh at the “women beater” part or did you look the other way like Cook did.

that was over 30 years ago. I think he's grown up and apologized enough. stopping drinking didn't hurt. maybe you don't agree looking down from your glass house

He'd probably do better there. Apple Music is a complete trainwreck.

I'm sincerely wondering what you view as a trainwreck (note...I'm genuinely curious...not trying to be condescending). My take on it, after having paid for the membership since day 1:

1. The original content sucks for anyone not into street rap, Hip hop or R&B
2. They do a lousy job promoting anything that isn't in #1.
3. Beats1 Radio was a great concept, but see #1. How about a Beats2 or 3 for the rest of us, with alternate genres?
4. The interface is fine. Easy enough to navigate. A whole lot better than Amazon Music. Can't speak for Spotify. Pandora is easier but more limited in what it does. But I've never had any trouble finding music in AppleMusic, I only wish I could view the songs I've "loved" in the past.
5. They (perhaps intentionally) made a mess of how one deals with their own MP3 or AAC files. I for one have lost track of what I own on my main computer versus what's part of the subscription. It's the main reason I haven't stopped paying for Apple Music and tried something else. I'm afraid of what will happen to my own collection.

But hey, other than that...

Eddy Cue has a vision??? now this is fake news.

No one left at Apple has a successful artistic vision, especially their CEO. After unsuccessful class action lawsuits that will flood the media, poor iPhone X / upgrade cycle sales, DESPITE their current worth...shareholders will be looking to replace Tim Cook. You don’t put an inventory / supply chain guy at the top of a tech company, you just don’t.

Apple is doomed :) /s

I'm not sure in the end if the Beats acquisition was worth it.

It wasn’t. Pre-installed on all iOS devices and yet only 30 million subscribers. That is not good. That means millions upon millions are still choosing Spotify, over a default app. Apple Music needs a free tier to compete, it’s the only thing that may stop people from searching out Spotify.

Meh, the only reason Apple music is marginally popular is how the app is engrained into the devices. If you could set another app to be the default music player or *gasp* allow a third party music app on the watch Apple music wouldn't have half the subscribers. I use competing services, but still keeping Apple music for telling Siri to play something or staying music from my watch or headphones.

Stock options then bailing out. Where are the people invested long term in the health of businesses these days?

Can someone please explain what it is that Eddy Cue has on Apple? Since he literally seems to do nothing valuable, I’m wondering how he still holds such a lucrative position.

Not in it for the money at all...
[doublepost=1515161293][/doublepost]Apple could hire me, throw millions at me, not give me a title, and they would probably end up for the better for it...

I pretty much agree with the majority of posters before me. Iovine will not be missed at all. I doubt he’ll be replaced since he didn’t have an official title at Apple. However if he is, hopefully it’s with someone more competent.
It is funny...comment like theese makes you think people really knew what he was doing inside Apple and how he was percieved inside the company.

The reality is, people talk without knowing anything, they just act like they pretend to know and judge upon look and feel only.

Iovine will be missed by lots of people, he did not need an official title to do something ;) and I doubt you know how competent Iovine is or is not.

That's really bad! You only leave a company when you are unhappy. Maybe not a very nice culture there after all! So what have Apple got from their 3Billion if Jimmy leaves? Crappy Beats headphones that were OK in 2011 before they fell to pieces? Maybe they learnt how to produce the AirPods. Kind of shows how much the money industry changes and how what and who was influential 10 years ago most certainly is not today.
It will be very interesting to see what the music market is like in 5 years time - will music streaming services burnt each other out? Will we go back to downloading and keeping music? I do :)

3 billion for 3 or so years...man he did well. Was it worth it to Apple? Who knows. Probably (maybe) a planned exit in contract from the start? Did his time..earn his bucks, then move on as the music industry does.

Wow! First (or second if you count Lady St. Johns) of Apple’s Divas to go. He’s got that one-way ticket much earlier than Spotify.

He dumped the business to Apple for a bid payday, you think he still cares about the health of Beats?

I like Jimmy over Eddy, but not sure either really make a difference at this point. I wish Apple would become more lenient with their demands. If they want to be the go to platform for content, they need to bring in more content.

I suspect Iovine was hired for his connections—not his smarts. But if his public speaking skills are any indication, he is an idiot savant.
