....don't confuse being out-of-touch regarding today's popular music with Dr.Dre working for Apple.

.
I'm not. Apple Music is infested with that ********. Pandora, Spotify everyone else has a VASTLY better selection and wider range of music than AM could ever hope for

Yeah and a streaming service that gained 30 million subscribers in 2 years fully cementing themselves as a key player in streaming.....what a waste , huh?

Iovine was the only real asset of the Beats purchase, but I’m not sure it was worth 3 billion dollars to have one influential guy at the negotiating table with the record labels.

I honestly think the Apple music user base is just OK considering the immense iOS/iTunes user base. I would have thought the end consumer would buy Apples music streaming regardless due to the convenience and integration of services. Unfortunately Beats or it’s employees had nothing to do with that.

They need someone new who can entirely redesign Apple Music from the ground up - 100% gut the entire app and start over. It will never grow otherwise. It’s that awful in its current state.

OMG, hardware has become so lame, i'll give you some examples. Macbook - underpowered with one port, one port! Macbook pro - over priced and USC-c only? how many dongles have you gotten for your over priced laptop.. and how many times have you forgotten those dongles when you need them. Mac Pro - need I say more? Mac Mini - cough cough

Now let's talk about Apple Watch. It's not bad, but not steller, personally I was shocked that the 10k model was discontinued.... ;)

And Iphones/Ipads - are good, I find iOS so limiting, and Siri is the best joke ever! Qi charging that is 5 years behind the rest of the industry is sad.

Air Pods - those were well done. I give it to those engineers, I was very impressed with them. However, I have Bose as I like to have several devices connected at the same time. Something they can't do and a must need feature for me.

Time Capsules - It's become it's own time capsule with ancient hardware.

Home Pod - They couldn't match google home's integration to the web, so they released a half ass eco and made some marking BS about acoustics.

Apple TV - Why wouldn't you get a roku and have 10 times more. Apple TV remote is junk. Looks nice, but just junk.

While Apple's mobile devices are blazing fast (ignoring the whole battery thing), I just can't remember when I have been so disappointed with Apple's hardware. To each their own, but if Tim Cook retired and craig federighi took over, I would be happy.
Meanwhile, Apple leads the market in mobile processing.

I don't think he fit Apple culture but I tend to see Apple Music as a standalone company or a self contained project. In that, he's been a significant contributor behind the scenes — hence the criticism: those of you saying "good riddance" don't see what he's done.

Nonetheless, he got the brunt of the work done, getting the industry on side and helping Apple transition the successful but inevitably outdated iTunes purchasing model into Apple Music's streaming model. It's on the right path and I think Apple can take it from here.

That, Pedro, is an intelligent, well thought-out post. I agree in that he has presumably been useful at helping Apple make contracts behind the scenes. I think most people here are reacting to the way he comes across in some interviews. Like his semi-sexist comment about women and music seeking. Here's a response that he made, not one of his high points:

"I just thought of a problem, you know: girls are sitting around, you know, talking about boys. Or complaining about boys, you know, when they’re heartbroken or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it’s hard to find the right music, you know. Not everybody has the right lists, or knows a DJ or something."

Great! He was not a good fit or a good look.
He knows the entertainment biz and Apple does not. Apple Music as good as it is could be significantly improved.

Spotify > Apple Music
Sennheiser > Beats
Sayonara!
As someone who's had both for some time I can confidently say AM is better than Spotify. At one point I even had the beats app on my phone because it too was better than Spotify's app.

If you were talking about the original Apple Music, I'd agree with you, but they did completely rebuild it from the ground up and I think it works really well now. Everything is easy to find, the UI is clean and clutter free and it has quickly and effortlessly learned my musical tastes and suggests music that I'll like and it's almost always right.

What's missing that Spotify has got right is the widespread integration into third party speakers and other devices. But this isn't an Apple Music problem as much as it is an Apple business characteristic that often locks its services into its own hardware. Apple is a hardware company. It wants to sell its own hardware. Spotify is a service. It wants to get its service as widespread as possible. This is why they'll never be the same.

Phew.....after reading all that....just go use other products if you think Apples are garbage.

Tim Cook is going nowhere since he’s I don’t know ....helped quadruple apple’s stock price since 2011 and bring in hundreds of billions addition in revenue. But yeah they’re doomed.

You confused financial success with good products. He has played a great short game, at the expense of long term success. Personally, Apple is now firstly a fashion company, second a tech company. If all you care about is a status symbol, then Apple is your company. OSX is the only reason i'm still around, all I can do is scream like the millions of others who want Tim's retirement.

This reminds me of the new star wars movie and the prequels. Sure they were a financial success, but a artistic disaster. Tim COOK IS THE GEORGE LUCUS of APPLE!

I would leave, you are working for Tim Cook. The man is taking Apple nowhere. Dongles, lame hardware, and android software is surpassing iOS.

OSX is the only good thing at Apple these days.

Do you? Apple pre-installs Apple Music on all phones sold, and has only 30 million users in two years. It’s going nowhere. Spotify has double+ the users and their rate of growth is eclipsing Apple Music and will continue to do so - their offerings are fewer and their interface is trash.

Many more execs have left or sold stock in recent years, it’s not just Jimmy.

Don’t worry, by year’s end or start of 2019 Tim Cook will no longer be helming Apple.
Yeah, under Tim Cook Apple has just been totally failing as a company. I mean look at how much they are worth, like practically nothing.
