How can people still throw money in Steve's direction after this? I already regret buying this phone.

No Flash for my sheeps! Ok Steve
Only apps from the appstore! Ok Steve
This is how you hold your phone! Ok Steve
Jump in a circle for me and send me all your money! Ok Steve

No FireWire for you sir. OK Steve.
No SD card slot for you sir. OK Steve.
No full-size SIM card for you sir. OK Steve.
No porn on my iPhone for you sir. OK Steve.
Now bend over and and swallow sir. OK Steve!

I cannot replicate the problem. Guess I'm lucky I got q good phone or maybe I'm more "receptive" than others.
I've tried left hand, right hand, both hands. 3G is not available in my area yet. Maybe it is a 3G thing?

are u kidding me

This kinda stuff bugs me.. when people sit at home all day and try to find something wrong with it. Seriously if your mad about this answer me this. When will you ever hold your phone like this.... NEVER. If you hold it like a normal person (no offense to the handicapped) then you will be fine. instead of trying to find defects just enjoy this amazing product. I know I do...

This the way I always hold the phone. Even in calls, since I use the speaker.

Remember how he couldn't connect to At&T's network when he gave up trying to get WiFi to work during the key note? It's because you're holding it wrong Steve!

I haven't bought an iPhone 4 yet but was planning on it asap. The only thing keeping me on AT&T is the iPhone, but this worries me. I've contemplated the Evo 4g and Sprint. What should I do?

this does happen to every other phone. You cover a certain part, and bars drop. Either way, you're still gonna be able to make a call if you at least have one bar. This issue is overdramatic. Just hold it right, or move along with another solution. (maybe a case?)
:apple:

This will be an AMAZING PR NIGHTMARE for Apple. I've worked in broadcast media for 30-years.

This is a HUGE blunder. Many people, including me, don't want a case.

Get a grip Stevie. You are an arrogant man and I've been buying your products on launch day for years.

THIS will be fun to watch.

Am I the only one that finds this funny in a way?

Yes I'm pissed about a serious flaw, and even more pissed by SJ's unbelievable arrogance.

SJ may be a great creative and corporate mind, but he has no clue about customer service and taking care of customers. I saw many people mentioning their love for Chick-Fil-A earlier in a separate thread after it was served to people in lines at some Apple stores this morning. I can assure you that if the spicy chicken sandwich that CFA just released had a problem (incorrect batter or some other problem; I know comparing a sandwich to a device is a stretch, but go with me...), S. Truett Cathy himself would A)Not have waited until complaints grew to a deafening roar to address the public, and B)Would have made pleasing the customer his number one goal; not defending himself with pathetic, sophomoric spin.

But anyway, for years Steve has positioned himself as superior to Microsoft. Yes, their products and OS are better, but these Messiah-like presentations get old. To first have a major problem during the i4 unveiling and now this should humble the man. It will be good for him. If I treated one of my clients this way, they'd leave me, simple as that.

Apple has more and more competition now, and they better believe that I'll be taking a closer look at the other phones on the market.

Chick-Fil-A has the best customer service of any company out there, and I will defend that against anything. I have NEVER had a problem there, and any issues that arise are instantly corrected, no matter which one I have been to.

You all know though, that Steve could have responded like this word for word-- "**** you. Hold the phone differently you tard." and it would not effect Apple sales in any way whatsoever. He can respond however he wants and it doesn't matter. I am not at all condoning this, but it's just the way it is. As for me, I haven't had any issues with my signal strength.

The iPad name didn't effect the operation of an expensive device. This does. There will be MANY people (myself included) who return their phones and switch to Droid if there is no fix.

go ahead. go tomorrow in fact. 5 people will be waiting in line to take your iphone off your hands. thats the best part.

As if we needed more evidence that Jobs is an ******. Not only does he want to dictate the content we see or use, but now how we hold our phones. Goodbye Apple. Hello google.

Wow! Go get another phone if you aren't happy! Simple as that!

I'm guessing some company will come out with a little strip of clear plastic that you can tape over that area and solve the problem, or you could even do it yourself with a short trip to the craft store.

Personally I don't hold my phone in a way that will cover that part. Whether left or right handed.

Yeah... Apple should be selling iPhone with a roll of sctoch tape :D

Some people on these forums said they were buying a bumper, or that they already did, and it solved the issue, and it wasn't a big deal. Apparently a major design flaw isn't a big deal to the fanboys, and $30 for a 10mm wide piece of :apple: plastic is worth it. .

Unfortunately that's not a fix, that's a smokescreen that does little other than mask the problem.

I call fake email. Doesn't seem like a very Apple response.
You're not very familiar with Steve's emails, I take it?
Arrogant one-liners = very, very Steve.
It's not fake, it's an official response that's been verified as bona fide and has already been picked up by the likes of Financial Times.

i find it hilarious the people most "vocal" about this issue and vowing to "return their phones" are all newbies. that says a lot.

trolls.

OMG. It's true. The real reason for the "Bumper".

Very sad day for Apple. This may be unrecoverable. Too many resources assigned to the iPad despite Steve's claims. Rush the 4th Gen phone to market,
and BOOM.:apple:

You people just kill me. Ya right, Apple's doomed.

I have to disagree. I am right handed and hold my phone in my left hand. Slightly cupped in my palm with my thumb resting on the side vertically. This causes me to bridge the two pieces of the frame every time without fail.

I consider that way to be perfectly normal and most importantly a natural way of holding a cellular telephone.

It's amazing to me that people just dismiss such a blatant flaw in a device. I've owned every iPhone, but I'll be returning this one is the only solution is to "move your hand".
