where in the universe people start to think about Apple products as a human right devices?? if you don't like it please don't buy it!! if you are not happy with it go to your Apple Store or ATT carrier office and return it maybe they will give your money back or show you other option.

I hate when people get mad about Apple products as if Apple did that to screw their lives.

There are a bunch of devices and phones out there, Apple change the industry standard to a better one, if iPhone never show up on the first place Google will never came up with an idea as Android.

I was playing with the EVO, and let me tell you it's a great phone. There is nothing bad if you look to other brands... trust me, nothing is going to happen. Explore, compare, stop crying and grow up.

I agree with you, the problem is that a restocking fee may
Be charged upon return? Will they allow a return with no restocking
Fee

If this email and reply is real then you can bet your house that they created the bumper case because they knew it was an issue.

this wasn't really an issue for me i have to say, had the phone for two days and i haven't experienced any call issues. i guess i just don't hold the phone in a way that causes this short.

also i just picked up the bumper cause a friend was stopping by the store and grabbed it for me, and honestly, it's pretty cool, very unobtrusive. i'm actually kinda into it, which i didn't expect. i've been a naked iphone guy for a while (... meaning no phone case, not meaning no clothes).

I have to disagree. I am right handed and hold my phone in my left hand. Slightly cupped in my palm with my thumb resting on the side vertically. This causes me to bridge the two pieces of the frame every time without fail.

I consider that way to be perfectly normal and most importantly a natural way of holding a cellular telephone.

I couldn't agree more. I hold my phone like that all of the time.

I went to the apple store today, and there were not enough sellers to go around, and I'm not talking about the two 1000+ lines to purchase the iPhone 4 (one for reserved, one for purchase).

I guess that a lot of folks don't give a hoop about any of this...

What I find funny is that the exact same thing occurs with some (if not all) iPhone 3g and 3gs models. Yet, I've never heard any complaints about it. Happens with my mate's iPhone, bottom left corner too!

I think now that Apple has revealed the antenna as the stainless steel frame, only now do people speculate that it could have an effect on the reception.
And look at what it has lead too!

For all we know, it's been right under our noses all these years, but only now are people beginning to realize, and only now are we bothered by it now it has come to out realization, what does that tell you?

If you watch the videos on youtube, Jon4lakers and SoldierGgKnowsBest. Both show that if you hold the phone over the low-left corner, you lose only 1 or 2 bars max!. But it's only when you clench the phone REALLY HARD!!! you lose 3 to 4 bars and lose all reception. I don't know about you, but my iPhone isn't one of those squeezing stress relief devices, it's a bloody phone!!! :)

I had wondered the same thing. If this has always happened, but we're only noticing it more now because we're aware of the new antenna?

No.

Exactly. All you have to do is slightly alter the way you hold it and it's a non-issue. I have the black bumper on mine and I love it. Looks great, protects it and makes so I don't have to worry about how I'm holding it or anybody I hand it to is holding it.

It's ridiculously easy to adjust your hand a bit so as not to touch the very bottom of the phone below the seam on the left side. My hands are fairly large and I can do it with either hand with ease.

I'll admit I was a bit shocked when I tried holding it the way shown in the original video and saw my bars drop, but once I played around a bit and figured out it was the bottom left, I just changed the way I hold it a bit and the problem was solved. No big deal. Those of you who are freaking out over this and threatening to return your phones are being ridiculous. Yes, you heard me. :D

All left handers, listen to this poster and start to train yourself to hold your iPhone in a different way. Apple will soon post tutorials, keep checking. For all the 12 - 15 years of handling cellphones, iPhone had to change the way one 'holds' their phones. Nice

i find it hilarious the people most "vocal" about this issue and vowing to "return their phones" are all newbies. that says a lot.

trolls.

Yes because the number of posts a person makes on here means they are more of a fan. Get over yourself. There's a problem here and Apple most likely knowingly knew about it.

Fascinating observation from Gizmodo's Brian Lam in the NY Times article about the problem:

“We are paying attention to the antenna issue because it could be a big deal,” he said. But Mr. Lam said that for years, he had not been able to use his older iPhones to make calls from his apartment. That changed on Thursday, after he bought an iPhone 4. “I have made three hours of calls today,” he said.

This kinda stuff bugs me.. when people sit at home all day and try to find something wrong with it. Seriously if your mad about this answer me this. When will you ever hold your phone like this.... NEVER. If you hold it like a normal person (no offense to the handicapped) then you will be fine. instead of trying to find defects just enjoy this amazing product. I know I do...

or maybe because people do hold it like that...
and your the weird one

So its ok that my iPhone 4 to have 1 bar while the iPhone 3GS next to it have 3 bars???

Clearly a fake since the Y in yellow is capitalized in the subject line in the second e-mail.

Nice try though.

Agree 100% with SJ, it's a non-issue. I don't have dropped calls, slow data or ANYTHING bad happen when I hold my phone. I guess that might be because I'm not trying to get my signal to drop with a Vulcan death grip.

I was going to buy a bumper anyway so even if there was an issue it's no big deal. Get a life people and chill out. I'll tell you what, I'll trade a 3GS for an iPhone 4. Any takers? I thought so.

Oh, it's not happening to you, so it's a non-issue for us all. Thanks for deciding that!

I'm not trying to get my signal to drop, it just does so when I hold my phone the exact same way I held my 3G, and the way it naturally fits in my hands.

I love the device otherwise, but I need it to function as a phone. If a bumper or case would solve this, then I welcome receiving one from Apple or AT&T. I didn't upgrade my hardware and sign another service contract to lose the ability to make calls.

No.

Because they didn't know when they were wasting their time standing in line. I imagine many of them are going to be pretty pissed. I would be.

you guys are full of ISHT!

I am not holding the phone AT ALL and i have ZERO BARS!!!

has nothing to do with how I hold it!

woohoo! I have a good phone. no bars WITHOUT having to hold it!

I haven't received my iPhone 4 yet (still in the mail), but this just sounds a bit ridiculous. If this many people are experiencing the problem then Apple needs to start comping iPhone purchasers. Why should I have to spend an extra $30 when it's your design flaw that's the problem?

I haven't bought an iPhone 4 yet but was planning on it asap. The only thing keeping me on AT&T is the iPhone, but this worries me. I've contemplated the Evo 4g and Sprint. What should I do?

lol isnt it obvious. if you ask like this i would say send steve all your money.

I am right handed and hold the phone in my left hand, so I can write with my right hand. Even when I'm not writing, I still prefer to hold it in my right hand, so I can open doors, gesture, etc.

Seriously? So so lame. There is no way they didn't know this. Why couldn't the have just put the split on the bottom, nobody holds it by the bottom? How hard would that have been? Man, major fail.
