I feel like I have to try entirely hard to even THINK I'm duplicating this issue. Tried the speedtest app, and my download speed actually shot UP significantly when I tried to hinder the antenna. I kinda have to join the non-issue camp on this, unless there are defective phones.

dont know how you guys hold your phone but this is my natural hand position when i'm making a phone call. i don't see these reception issues.

Your death vice grips are not a natural way of holding the phone while on a call
You're purposely obstructing the Apple logo. Traitor.

give it time people..

one week from now..this will be a non issue.

remember the whole IPad is an awful name thingy....give it time and people move on.

you have got to be fing kidding me!! you just compared a naming issue with a terrible design flaw which renders the object usless in its primary form! forcing the user to change their ways, after 3 successfull designs they have reverted 10 years in cell phone designs and made the iphone 4 an itouch!

" If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases. "

Tell ya what, Apple. How about you include a case with the iPhone so it really is a non-issue.

Used in the same sentence. Interesting. You repressing anything? :p

You meant the 3 words, right:

I'm a grown-ass man and I'm not about to adopt some queer new way of holding my phone. This is completely cocked.

Same issue with 3gs running ios 4

Same thing happens to me with my 3GS.

When I run Speedtest, I can make the d/l and u/l speeds drop by approximately half by cradling the phone in my hands, versus leaving the phone untouched on the desk.

Reproducible 100% of the time.

Not new, I guess, and I never noticed it before.

Again a case or bumpers will solve this common cell phone problem.

I just reproduced 4-5 bars to SEARCHING 5 times in a row by holding the phone in my left hand and typing/scrolling with my right.... yes, the same way that pretty much EVERYONE, INCLUDING STEVE, holds their phones when they are on the internet. I also happen to touch the same spots with my right hand when I'm on the phone - it's natural. It's amazing to me that Steve says that we are holding it wrong...how else can we hold it, Steve?

I'm at home and it's late. Tomorrow, I'll try it in various places and take some video.

Anuba,

He is not obscuring the Apple logo, he is reverently touching it, as we all should when using the phone. Then you would not experience the problems that you do.

Or of course you could use a case or bumpers.

The thing is people are saying "dont use a death grip" I barley touch the left side and my 3g data service stops. I will post a video in a bit. Just hold the top part of the phone works fine.

Steve's right this is a non issue being made into a big deal by haters and trolls. If you really aren't happy with the most amazing phone in the world then take it back and buy a POS Android phone. If This was a real problem then ther's no doubt in my mind that Steve would take care of it. He's never let us down before. Don't let the haters win, ignore them they're just jealous they can't afford a real phone because they're on welfare.

are you paid by SJ to kiss his a$$ ?

But it does drop the connection every time as shown in my video and is is what happens on the iphone4

Like I wrote earlier - the fact that it occurs on any or every phone doesn't make it a non-issue as Steve suggested. His answer to me (the first one) was poorly written. His followup was "better." He shouldn't have called it a non-issue. It is an issue with his phone and others. That doesn't excuse Apple just because everyone else has the issue. I didn't buy another phone or I would have emailed THAT CEO about the issue. And if I had another brand phone - I wouldn't accept that response from that CEO either

No, Steve lied! No other phone loses complete connection when it sits in your palm. No Phone loses connection when you hold it. Yes, they may lose a bar or two, but iPhone 4, loses a bar, then another, and then another, and then goes into Searching, dropping your damn call. Find me another phone that loses connection when held in your hand regularly. If there is even one, it one other phone.

What's interesting is this thread is full of folks outraged by Steve's comment while the other is full of those that agree with Steve. I guess there's a thread to make everyone happy. :D

Apple approved iPhone handling...lmao

This is how I hold my iPhone when on a call but I still think this issue is unacceptable.
