"Ive's statement about working with new materials is incredibly vague, but rumors have suggested that Apple has been experimenting with a range of materials that have not yet seen wide usage in its devices, including sapphire crystal, which may make its way into the iWatch and the iPhone 6, Liquidmetal alloys, which the company may use for various iPhone parts, and possibly graphene, which is seen as the hot new manufacturing material."

Where did he spilll his guts?

My take is this article is a "one for the troops" talk letting them know of the whole public discos our and also entertain the investors. The stock slide a bit after the 7:1 split but is starting to come back.

humour on the fact that no one shouldn't be spilling their guts on future apple products.

apparently no one got it.

I think it's because if Mr. Ive did mention future products, he has the authority to make that call, and not get fired for it.

On a side, dating a British girl is like having a snow cone.

I've been fortunate enough to be with a couple of British chicks.
One, a rich kid zaftig redhead, Julia, and the other a petite brunette punk, Paula.
Both were supersmart and I wish either of them had become lifelong friends.

But to your point, all that "snow cone" jazz doesn't wash.
Brit chicks are like any other: if they're into you, it's party time!
Simple as that.

AND NOW AN OFFICAL APPLE-RELATED COMMENT ....
Jony's choice of iOS 8 light grey text on a white background design language is insane.
I think they have a noble running amok at Apple who needs to be reigned in a tad.
Even Steve was wrong here & there: who's Ive think he is, Mr. Infallible?

Like the mac mini and mac pro?

I want to see a new Mac Mini following the style of the new Mac Pro. Same color and circle shape but an inch tall with connectors and vents across one 120 degree section. Keep the top flat for stacking and maybe even a rubber rough surface.

You can only say "We are working on / with some really exciting new things" for so long before people will actually want to see something new and exciting.

And I think many are start to think they want to see something soon and not just another slightly polished current item that's looks almost the same.

Tim promised us new and exciting products for 2014 and we're still waiting.
A few more months and will will all know just what these exciting things he's talked about will actually be.

There are few things in life where I'd just about kill to experience. Jony Ive's studio is definitely one of those. Might be one of the coolest places on earth.

I wonder if liquidmetal, silicone and sapphire count as new materials

The history of Material Science typically shows the first synthesis of a material is decades if not centuries before it's mass commercial introductions. Issue is making it in mass quantities, at an affordable cost and safe operation in the consumer space.

There are some very impressive materials out there with very impressive properties but hideous costs with some hazardous side effects worthy of a science fiction short film.

Those I know who have been in that part of the loop tells me they are quite surprised to see how simple and unadorned it is. Almost nothing hanging on the walls outside of the projects at hand. One described it like walking into a modern art museum with white walls, tract lighting and a minimalist office furniture design.

"According to Ive, titles are unimportant at Apple"

Yeah, I used to work at one of those "flat" companies - just SHOW ME the money.

because it wasnt funny, really. he didnt spill his guts on anything, just the usual "we're working on new stuff but i cant tell you what", which is normal.

We went over this already.
Tim thinks the latest version of an existing item is a "new product".
Tim, naturally, says everything Apple does is "exciting".
iOS 8, Yosemite, and new iPods/iPhones/iPads are coming in 2014.
There's your promised "new and exciting products for 2014". See? He kept his word!

... and infuriatingly annoying. I wish the whole Apple brass would stop saying that crap already.
It's old and I'd much rather they take Steve's tack and say nothing at all.

Because we can't go back & the multitasking / control center out weighs the hideous design

----------

When he realizes the current design is hideous but with an ego that big... never.
And yet at WWDC Cook said iOS 7 customer sat was 97%. :D

I love how everyone hates iOS 7 yet everyone has iOS 7 :D

I'm still holding out with iOS6. In fact, I have yet to met an actual person that I know who LIKES iOS 7. Usually they just roll their eyes and shake their head in dismay. Most wish they could go back to iOS 6.

Another reason not to update to iOS 7 is that it requires upgrading to the lovely and equally well-thought-out iTunes 11 -- another piece of Apple software I have yet to hear any absolute raves from people I know. (And yes, they all use Apple products professionally.)

I'll say this about 7: when I was running 3-6, ZIPPO problems.
Literally none. Now? Now with 7, I get crashes every day.
Yes, I have the lastest .n version. And I have an Air!
I'm talking crashes with NOTHING else running in the background,
crashes with simple apps like "Photos" & "Safari", again, WITH NOTHING ELSE RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND.
iOS 7 stinks.

Needs an enema

Dear Apple,

Please retake Ive's company portrait. The expression/smirk indicates he either still a 13 year old, or suffering some sort of bowl discomfort. Since we know he is not still 13, we must assume the latter. In which case, get him an enema and retake the shot.:)
