Sorry, I missed what you said about standing in PORTRAIT mode. Duh! Please excuse my temporary brain freeze!:p i just tested this, standing on a table. Understand, because the case's cover mimics that of the Apple Smart Cover, the only way to accomplish this position, is to fold the 4 sections into their triangle formation. Given the strong magnets, I could stand the case up in portrait mode, with the triangle giving support on just one side. The iPad ends up at a close to 90 degree angle from a horizontal surface. The triangle will not unfurl, but if tapped, I would be concerned about the iPad toppling over. This would not happen in landscape mode because said triangle provides a weighted, wider base, which provides better stability, if you get what I mean?

Thanks for that update. I'd really like to find a case that provides a comfortable and secure Portrait stand. Maybe the Ozaki iCoat Slim-Y or even the Joy Factory Folio360 III when that comes out would be better for this. Other than this one feature, the SmartSuit definitely has a lot to recommend it.

I searched on the new part # (CSA111) and it says smartsuit3 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Joy-Facto...4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1334238175&sr=1-4

If that is the old case, that is beyond deceptive advertising because they are using the new part #. In any case, I asked the seller when they will be stocking the CSA111. For the other two colors, they have significant discounts (37% and 27%) compared to joy factory (even when using the 15% coupon).

There is a significant difference between their iPad 2 and 3 cases. See my post here:

My suggestion would be to go to the JF website, scroll to bottom of the page. There is a link that will provide their contact info. You could call them as I did; they answered any questions I had.
Another idea - email the Amazon seller those 2 pics I posted of the rear shell. Ask them which one matches their product. If it's identical to mine, then perhaps it's safe to order from them.:)

If you don't mind the added bulk, the Targus Versavue has a stable portrait mode because it allows the iPad to rotate within the enclosure. My Hubbie had their case for his iPad 2. He liked it for reading in portrait mode.
Edit: i had not seen the JF folio 360 yet.....i am wondering where that front tab goes when it's open?

The Amazon screen shots of the back don't match yours...at this point, probably the safest route is to order from joy factory directly and pay more. :(

Thanks for the pictures and impressions everyone! I was having a hard time picking out a case. I had the STM Skinny for my iPad 2, but didn't like the changes to the new version.

I think this will work out well. Ordered it last night and it shipped this morning.

I would still make sure with Amazon because even on the JF Website, they had not updated their pics of the rear shell. You never know, Amazon might just have the new case, although it is doubtful considering they claim the case is compatible with iPad 2 and 3.

I just received my bronze smartsuit3 in, here are my impressions

  • The bronze is caught me off guard, it was way more metallic than it looked in the pictures. At first I didn't like it, but it's starting to grow more on me, and the black complements the color nicely
  • The magnets hold the cover pefectly in both front and back just as I hoped it would, and the sleep/wake functions fine...no issues here
  • The material is pretty grippy, and appears to be water/scatch resistant
  • The stand is pretty solid, but maybe not quite as solid as the smart cover with a naked ipad. I haven't used a smart cover with a back shell, so it may be just that the back protection makes it a little less stable than a naked ipad. I am not worried about it falling or anything though, it seems pretty good
  • My case didn't really smell that badly out of the packaging, just a sligt odor that has almost dissapated

I think I am going to keep this case

Sounds exactly like what I felt. Im loving mine too.

I have mailed the Joy Factory distributor/reseller of Europe.
They told me that the Connect-the-Dots series was delayed...
They won't have the cases in stock until the 26th of April.
I don't know about the release date in the US, but I think that is delayed too...

Just bought the bronze. Most money I've ever spent on a case I hope it's worth it lol. It looks great.

Has anyone else noticed lines on their screen from the cover? It's actually where the folds are. It's not a big deal really, I can wipe them off. Ive never had an iPad so I really don't know if this is normal or not.

None of the vendors will supply any more info than what is on Amazon. Two responses scared me away but J&R Music is now selling the CSA111 too so I ended up ordering from them $41.99 shipped!

Joy informed me via email that there is truly only one version of the CSA111 so I'm reasonably confident this is the iPad 3 case as long as the product is really the CSA111. J&R is reputable so I feel pretty good about this, but I'll update the thread when I get it (long lead time before shipping :-( ).

I just placed my order of the broze color via Beach Audio on Amazon.com, hopefully it will arrive by the time I travel.

Currently I'm using the Apple leather smart cover from the iPad 2.

In the past, I have ordered many peripherals from J&R; they are a highly reputable company, so you should have no problems.:)

The lines on the screen are common with all the multiple fold covers. I wipe them off at the end of every day; have always cleaned my screen daily anyway.

Does the screen turn on n off when cover is closed when u slide screen cover?

Anyone have picture of the front flap open all the way open and opened to back.

Does the screen turn on n off when cover is closed when u slide screen cover? Mine did NOT, others say theirs did. Seems the "power" of the magnets may vary.

See this post. This is mine. YMMV. I returned mine for that reason PLUS the magnets when folded back didn't stick well. https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/14673865/

UPDATE: I am returning the case because of the bronze color. It is too feminine for my tastes, and I felt like I was holding a LV or Gucci purse or something when I walked outside because of the sparkle. It's a shame because the color looks awesome in certain lighting. For girls it would be a good color choice though, other than the color, the case was great

Mine did this at first. I would slide the cover and I could hear the clicking of the screen turning on and off. Now, I don't do that and haven't had a problem. I just open it and close it as it should be.

Just curious....why did you select Beach Audio versus J&R...both have Amazon storefronts and J&R was the cheapest I saw.

First off, I landed to the page with ANTOnline.com as its' prefer seller. I wasn't familiar with that seller and went ahead with Amazon (with Prime eligible). However it didn't provide any ETA on stock, so I cancelled it right away. This time it offered Beach Audio with 10 cases left. I did look at J&R and it might take a week for shipping due to the warehouse based in NY as I recalled and 'Expected to Ship 4/20/12' on its' website. (Thanks, dieburnbot)

Oh well, I received an USPS tracking number early this morning.

LOL...thanks for the feedback. I ended up cancelling my bronze order and re-ordering black. May not stand out, but won't look like Gucci either. :)

I guess one (the only?) of the benefits of the very long lead time w/JR Amazon store.

Ordered a black version from Provantage. Price there is $32, but they charge a whopping $16 for shipping. Still under $50 total which is okay by me. I've used Provantage in the past and they usually ship out same day if in stock.

Link to the black version:

Edit: Looks like it's already set to ship today. Ordered at 8am this morning. Nice!
