I think my tracking number is broken. My case is still in Rialto, CA. Seriously? I have waited longer for this case, than I did for my iPad. I'm telling you, by the time I get mine, this thread will be old/non existant!
I was smart though, got a neoprene sleeve before my iPad arrived. Without that, my iPad would be completely naked. Gotta love Christmas Tree Shops. Best $4.99 I've spent, and its saving me hundreds on potential damages to my iPad.
I'm going to get a tattoo that says "Good things come to those who wait."![]()
I am still not sure about buying this case...
Would you (who have the case) recommend it?
"I have noticed when I flip the cover over to book mode it put my iPad to sleep ................"
As i said in that post a few days ago, this will occur when the rear magnets are too strong.
Well cover won't stick to my rear. It's keeps flopping. I have a floppy rear cover. Don't know what to do about it. I guess a floppy rear cover is better then a floppy disk. Don't see many of those anymore though.
I can make my cover stick to my rear a little better if I PUSH DOWN on the cover segment that won't lie flat because when I do that it pushes the edge of the case closer to the front. I find that annoying but not a game stopper.
I REALLY like the case despite my floppy rear but I do think it, and many other similar cases are very overpriced. Had it been real leather and not the stinky PU (polyurethane) fake-leather vinyl (the smell has gone away somewhat but still noticeable) I would think the price would have been more true to it's value.
In the next month or so, like with the iPad 2, there will be MANY cheap smelly cases on Amazon & eBay that are equal to or better than all these initial overly expensive cases for 1/3rd the price and probably made by the same fabricators in China. The sellers are very aware how much people will pay for ANYTHING "I" related especially when it's new.
So for price (value) I give it 2 out of 5 starts, for fit and finish I give it 5 out of 5 and for smell I give it a BIG PU which is exactly what it is made of.
What really surprises me is considering how responsive the company was BEFORE shipment they seem to not respond to emails AFTER shipment when questioning them about my smelly bulging flopping cover when trying to stick it to the rear of the unit. Maybe they closed early for the holidays.
Can anyone else confirm that the magnet on the back will not hold the smart cover in place when it is folded like a book? That was the only reason I was buying this case, so if it can't do that, I may as well just keep my smart cover and look for a separate back shell
The magnet works for me. That was one of the main reasons I was drawn to this case, I hold my iPad like a book with the cover folded back most of the time.
That's exactly what mine does. If you hold it like a book for reading it stays closed because you are holding 1 or 2 of the segments with your fingers against the back so there is really only the weight of 1/2 the cover for the magnet to stick to. If I put it down on the desk folded back and lift it up the cover flops opened (unless of course I reach around it to grab it). The back magnet really doesn't have too much purpose. Probably a piece of velcro would have done better or one of those ugly elastics straps. Is your rear magnet as strong as the one on the front? When my cover is closed, i can hold the case upside doen, and it will remain in place. When folded to the rear, I can hear the magnet snap the cover into position. It will hold for reading, but not when suspended in the air, rear of the device facing down.
Anyone get confirmation for their bronze yet? They are supposed to ship today. I really hope mine isn't delayed.
Okay finally after almost a month of waiting, my case has arrived. It's smells! Lol I'm sure it will dissipate after a while. I got the silver and I can honestly say I'm not blinded by it at all. I actually like the silver. Goes very well with my white iPad. As other posters have stated the case does have a grippy texture to it, which I'm thankful for. I had no problem installing my iPad in it. Actually I feel the need to keep checking if it's in correctly as I only heard two of the corners snap in.
Now for the cover part. With it being closed and then open, the sleep wake feature works great! If I hold the iPad upside down the magnets hold it shut, but the case towards the middle of the iPad will succomb to gravity. The cover folded all the way back, the magnets will hold it shut it book mode, but the minute I let go, the cover flops off. For me, that's not an issue. Right now I have it in typing mode, and if I lift it, the magnets keep the cover in position.
Overall, love the case. Can't wait for the smell to go away, but other than that, I'd give it 4 stars. Minus one for the smell.![]()
Did you order the bronze? I sure would like to see a picture of that color.
So the magnets won't hold the cover back unless you are holding onto the left hand side of the iPad?

Right. It's fine if you hold the iPad, but if you try to hold the iPad by the rim and not touch the cover at all, mine flops down. It just seems as the magnets aren't strong enough. But I think any stronger it would trigger the sleep/ awake feature.
Interesting, mine does NOT do that. I can shift the cover to either side as far as it will go. In fact, I can close it then lift ONLY the front segment and the screen stays off until it is close to vertical.I was playing around with the case cover. I noticed if I shift the cover slightly, to the right or the left (with it being fully closed) I can hear the "click" of the auto wake feature turning on and off.
Kelly, the upright/movie viewing angle, with almost any case, will never be stable on a soft surface like a bed. I also use a wedge for that, similar to what you describe. Mine looks like this:I'm not really too worried about the cover and the sleep awake feature. I was playing around with it. I'm sure if I just open and shut it normally, it'll be fine.
I'm thinking of getting one of these: http://www.wedgestand.com/shop-ipad-pillow/gray-microsuede/ That way, I can watch movies and be pretty much hands free. As I know the way the cover of the case folds, its just not going to work out for me. However, I'm not returning the case. I need the protection, love the sleep awake feature and it beats putting a naked iPad in a neoprene sleeve every night!I debating on it at the moment.
