and could you show it in the reclined typing angle? :)
thanks

Oh! I forgot.:) Typing angle:

When folding the cover, I discovered that the magnets hold it in the triangular position so well, that even when lifted up, the cover will maintain that position. Here, the iPad is suspended in the air; hard to tell because there is a wall in the immediate background:

I've been using a Melkco Slimme cover with this feature for over a year now

if you fold the cover back, do the magnets hold it firm to the backside by themselves ?

It holds the cover in position, but not as strongly as when the front cover is triangulated - the latter holds position quite strongly. I don't think it would have been possible for the rear magnets to be quite as powerful, because when folded back, it would trigger the sleep/wake function. So, the balance is really quite delicate. A lot of other cases I have seen reviewed, this is a major gripe - that when folded back on itself, the cover keeps triggering the iPad to go dark/light. Not so with this case.

Perfect!

As long as it stays at all on its own, it should make holding it much easier without the flap wrapping around your hand.

Yes, I saw that last year on the Melkco slimme. It's a good case, but the exposed corners always worry me....I'm a bit of a klutz:rolleyes:: I also don't like when the leather wraps all the way to the edge, and over the frame. It has a habit of becoming unglued/unfurled after prolonged use. This is what I mean on the Melkco:

I must say though, that the Melkco is of a very high quality, but at $165.00 a pop, it should be!

Laurenr,

Thanks for the thorough review. I must admit, I was probably anxiously awaiting your review like Kelly. Your review and pics have just helped me make up my mind -- I want a Joy Factory case. The problem now is figuring out which one.

I was contemplating getting a Smart Cover and coupling that with a Speck Smartshell, but I think I like the idea of a one piece unit better.

I think the all-in-one case, when it is well implemented, is the better way to go. I always think back to His Steveness:eek:.......he vehemently maintained the motto, "Keep it simple", that's why it "just works".

One more thing:rolleyes: this is what I am referring to when I describe a corner cutout that has the potential to fail, that is illustrated in many cases today:

How come on their website the cut out for the speaker and dock connector look different than the pics in this post?

I totally see what you mean. I am assuming that pic is from their iPad 2 case....they really should change that:

My case has the revision, without that cutout, entire perimeter enclosed (I suppose that really would be a distinctive difference between their ipad 2 and ipad 3 cases). See? I like the case even more now. How many cases have we seen that claim to be "compatible" with both generations of the iPad?:

Thanks for pointing that out!

I received my White Silver SmartSuit3. I have to say I'm disappointed with it and sending it back tomorrow. First off, it has a very glossy sheen. I went with the white silver over the bronze as the website pictures made the bronze look like it had metallic sparkly bits. Well, so does the white silver. Not for me and not the professional looking case I was hoping for. I couldn't keep a straight face walking around with a glittery case in my hand.

The other issue is the smell. I'm sure it will dissipate after a period of time, but the chemical odor is pretty strong straight out of the box.

Otherwise, it's a great design. Fits the New Ipad perfect and I really like how the cover functions and feels. The material is grippy, but, again, the metallic sheen just isn't my cup of tea. Definitely prefer a more matte look, muted look.

Thanks for clearing that up. I really like the new cut out too. I think I'm going to order it. It is everything I've been looking for. :)

Anyway you can take some pics of the sheen? That's the color I'm thinking about getting. I watched a video of the iPad 2 version and it didn't look overly shiny to me. Hopefully they didn't change it. ;(

This is the video I watched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYSy1T0JaLk

Quick question.....Would appreciate your feedback on which case you like best and why... the Joy Suit 3 or the Yoobao Executive Leather? I guess I saw you mention another Chinao Wheat. I'm on the fence on which to get. Thanks in advance!

I like the joy suit 3 because it doesn't cover the bezel around the screen.

The cases are completely different. I have always used either the Chinao wheat, or the Yoobao Folio for travelling, which I do quite a lot. I am always worried in airports, the case being knocked out of my hand, or in Europe, those cozy little coffee shops with the teeny weeny tables....know what I mean? For these times, i like a partially covered iPad bezel, hence my choice of the Chinao or Yoobao. An iPad case with a clip-on bezel, no matter how stunning or practical for every day use, might not survive a bouncing on a sidewalk......I have seen this with my Husband's, when it broke/bounced free of his Targus case and his screen shattered. To that end, I will still be ordering one of those, probably the Yoobao Coffee, when it is in stock.

I hear you! That is why I hesitated so much over my choice between the white, bronze or black. I even called them, asking how "glitzy" those two were. They advised me to order the black to be safe. Of course, since then, they have a few other options added to their material selection.

The Melkco is well made. I have used my case for a year, I travel every week, throwing the iPad into a slim briefcase with a laptop, and the leather has not unfurled at all.

But the new Melkco doesn't have an open bezel so that design decision vetoes them as an option for me.

The Joy Factory Connect the Dots seem to be the best option for high quality leather like cases right now. Plus the feature to hold the lid with magnet when folded back is awesome.

Hmmmm....... I also like the Connect the Dots, but didn't want to wait any longer; it's available at a later date. It's material, I think, will have a softer "hand" than their first three cases. I really like those new color selctions too!:)

On the subject of the Melkco case, I am wondering why it had such a significant price jump? Last year this time that very same case sold for between $98.00 and $115.00. Now their higher end cases are $ 270.00, and the least expensive is $150.00?!?

Front cover magnets

One more thing that I just noticed. I just closed the front cover of the case, held it by the center seam, and was placing it on a table, cover facing down. The magnets totally held it in place, as if there was a latch keeping the cover attached to the back shell, even though I was holding it upside down.:D

After hearing this positive review, I am going to buy one...
But I have one question:
Could anyone post a picture of how thick the case is?

Yay!! Great review Lauren. You're a funny one, no I'm not an only child. I wasn't even tossing and turning knowing you got your case. :p I am glad you love it though. Thanks for the pictures. Now I can't wait for mine to get here. Actually I'm a tad bit worried about the silver. I mean I don't think I'd return it for it being too bright, but I don't want to go blind by looking at it either. I guess time will tell.

Thanks for posting pictures. The other poster is right about the two different images. I actually like how the new one has cut outs instead of the case stopping at the speaker grill. So the sleep wake function works right?? I hope that is the way for each case as I've seen threads saying it works for one and not the other.

Anyway, time to get ready for work. Where as you all know, I'm sure I'll post more. What can I say? Work is boring. :)

Oh and btw Lauren, I love your wallpaper on your iPad. I have a Yorkshire terrier.

I haven't got mine yet but that drives me crazy as well. The is why it is called "PU" leather (AKA vinyl) because it stinks. It reminds of an old saying I can't repeat here. You would think that for ~$60 you'd get a little less stink then the $15 versions. Despite that I am still anxiously awaiting my case.

Excellent! No worries about an elastic cord or buckle or flap or whatever to keep it closed.

Thanks to your review, I pulled the trigger last night and ordered the Connect The Dots in Vintage Blue. Was torn between the Khaki and the Blue, but ended up on the Blue. I know it's not shipping yet, but I can't wait!

I have a Snugg case I use now that's functional. Magnets work, not overly thick, and the magnets are strong enough to keep the cover closed (like you discovered with the Joy Factory case). I can rock with it for a few more weeks.

Yep, pulled the trigger on a Vintage Kaki myself. I was torn too on that or the blue. Good choice either way. Looking forward to it getting sent out in a couple weeks hopefully.
