I use avatars to remember users coz its easier than remembering usernames (I'm lazy like that) but I dont judge users by their avatars, no.

What is my avatar, anyway? I change it so much these days... Oh yeah... :p Look closely at whats actually on there, its very funny if you can see it properly, I attach to you: the slightly bigger version! :p (OK, after a hour, I cant find it anywhere, so I guess I wont).

I have avatars turned off because they all annoy me and distract me from the content; even when I try not to associate attitudes with avatars, or not judge people by their avatars, or be swayed in attention devoted to a post based on a recognizable avatar, it is still happening on a subconscious level. Unavoidable.

I challenge you all to try turning off avatar display for a week.

I'd be afraid I'd miss something interesting or funny...

I have a couple on my ignore list. These are members who rarely say anything interesting. Most of the time they're just repeating the same crap time and time again.

If they do say anything interesting someone else will quote it.

I too simply use the avatars to help me to know who has posted.

A few years ago, we had a game where a few dozen of us randomly rotated our avatars around (we pooled all of our 'tars, and then we each got a randomly chosen one every few hours). It confused everyone, and showed just how much people look at 'tars, not names, when reading posts.

While I don't necessarily judge a person by their avatar, when I'm reading a thread, oftentimes I'll skip over a post based on the avatar. Conversely, I'll also stop to read a post if I recognize the avatar as belonging to someone who usually has something intelligent to say.

If someone has a truly annoying avatar or signature line, sometimes I'll skip over it based on past knowledge.

Sometimes the Avatars have meaning and I generally can tell if they do or not after talking to someone but there are a lot of times when I don't think the avatar means anything. In my case, I created my Avatar specifically for this forum going along with the "Think Different" idea and Imagine is my favorite song and the Beatles is my favorite band so it works well. However, I use a peace sign on several other forums that I visit.

I have never had an Ignore list.

Where'd Skunk go? I haven't seen him in aeons... :D

I haven't checked in this topic in a couple days. My, my. It's hit all the topics. Sexy women, women stripping in front of certain members, sexy legs, shaved legs, and camera flash... my my.
