Whiners that want prosper factual numbers not repeat I’ve % without base numbers to make relevance understandable.

This bar graph is a joke! Like % of what number specifically? Can you do the math with only 1 value in an equation? No.

Worse than what exactly? 3% of what total number?

This article nor the mention in the graph by CIRP states the total number. So this “3%” could be amazing vs terrible - without the total number nobody knows. No link to CIRP’s data as well ah time of article posting that I’m commenting on at this moment.

Take note the iPhone SE 3 production was cut in 6 wks of release. 6 wks lol.

What happened to factual numbers vs inferring what value 3% actually holds? Hmmm.

Also nobody in their right mind thought pandemic affected mini sales when the past two years people purchased larger phones as they’re not travelling nor exercising outside as much. Sorry your statement is opposite of reality. Unless you meant what I’m stating. Also this is USA percentage only not global.

Just remember the iPhone SE 3 production was officially cut in 6wks of release lol. That’s shows a mistake in assessing just how cheap the iPhone should go. Anyone recall the iPhone 5C when the 5S was launch how terrible that was?! Reiterating an old design too long (4yrs running from the SE 2 launch) is an insult to consumers.

Right now I feel Apple is in a hypocritical moment: touting better security of FaceID yet holding onto TouchID in 1 iPhone and in 2 iPads and ok 4 MBPs with 2 external keyboards.

Watch and see here the FUD jumping on the machine without actual factual data just relevance without a base number of that that 3% represents. ;)

Again at time of my post this article does NOT directly link CIRPs data nor state the total current sales numbers of all iPhones this quarter in the USA but states 3% of what exactly? 10 million? 30 million? 40 million? That’s a big difference.

Actually many people on here claimed exactly that. It was a popular reason people were giving for the low sales. I agree it makes no sense. But that's what people said.

BS.
People are in for smaller phones but these prices are just crazy.
The mini will return in form of an SE and then it will sell much better. We haven’t seen all from the mini iPhone!
Nope, nope. I had been always hearing that people wanted a flagship with small screen, not a cheap phone. It’s even $100 cheaper than the standard 13. Most people just don’t like small phones.

In 2022 with the iPhone 14 lineup, Apple is discontinuing the 5.4-inch iPhone size. There will be no iPhone 14 mini, with Apple instead releasing a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
And the rumor is the next iPhone SE will be based on the iPhone mini, hence its phased out and replaced with larger model.

The current iPhone SE will be the final model with the design language that has been in use since first iPhone. (Screen with home button)

Hence why it is on the chopping block. Imagine that: loud internet whiners aren't an actual market.

I don't know what the appeal of a tiny iPhone is; however, some of this can be attributed to Apple's doing, if only they would release a small phone with the same specs as the larger ones more people would buy.

Yeah, there’s nothing that really distinguishes this from the prior SE. a semi-new design would.

Well I whined (not really) and got my 13 mini a few weeks ago. And I love it, perfect size for me, and still giving me latest tech. Has good battery life as well. Couldn't be happier.

But I don't live in the US so I'm not part of the statistics mentioned in this article

*ehem*
Here's an issue...

Frontpage Promotion
Tmobile: iPhone 13 FREE
Verizon: iPhone 13 Pro $800 off
ATT: iPhone 13 Pro Max $700 off

The iPhone Mini isn't being promoted.
Sales are low.
GASP!
You're only going to drum up so much demand when it isn't there.

Tell that to the HomePod that got discontinued. “It’s okay dude, Apple will bring you back some day.” Not going to happen. When customers refuse to buy overpriced items, Apple tends to discontinue them and move on to the next device. The HomePod was probably good, but not enough customers were willing to pay for one, so like a horse with a broken leg, they put it out of its misery… Apple usually hits a home run with the market by getting right which devices will sell enough to turn a good profit. But they were way off with the iPhone 13 mini and the HomePod.

Maybe, but you won’t see it return in the way that you want.
The rumor is that it’ll be a 5.7 inch LCD, in the same body as the current SE.
Probably somewhere around that 326 pixels per inch that the current SE and the old iPhone 8 was.
Certainly don’t expect anything as close to the current 13 mini when it comes to specs

I’m very happy with my 13 mini although I would have preferred a 13 pro mini. The rumored upsizing for iPhone 14 isn’t very comforting either. I’m keeping this one a good while. Who knows? Maybe when I’m ready to upgrade there will be another option for people who don’t want phablets.

the price is way too close to the regular 13, i bet plenty of folks would jump on the mini if the price got slashed by 100 bucks or so.
Even more people would buy it if it was slashed by $200.
Even more people would buy it if it was slashed by $300.
Point is, even with it starting at $700, more customers still prefer the $800, $1000, and $1100 phone.

I like the size of the mini a lot. I only went with the smaller 13 pro version as I wanted the better camera and other features. When I got the iPhone 12, I would have gotten the smallest one, but the 12 max had a better camera.

For me personally, if they stopped limiting the top specs to the larger screens, I would choose the smaller ones.

I own an iPhone 6s and have been looking to upgrade to a similar sized phone for YEARS now. I'm not considering the SE because it's small screen size is a joke these days. The 12 mini had battery life issues and additionally the 13 mini's camera bump is just totally frustrating when used on a flat surface (e.g. to use a calculator app). I don't need a bazillion pixel camera either. I guess I'm in the market for an SE with a much larger screen and that's why I haven't given Apple a dime since I got my iPhone 6s. Everybody's different - I'm just saying what my reasons are.

This is disappointing. I bought an iPhone 13 mini after having an 11 Pro Max and I've loved it every day. Whenever I see a regular 13 or 13 Pro now they look enormous to me. The only thing I had to do to adapt to the small phone again was turn off Predictive text (not auto-correct) in Settings -> General -> Keyboard because I kept accidentally inserting too many emojis. I bought a Moment case for it and even use it on real estate inspections with Wide and Telephoto Moment lenses.

The only thing I notice performance-wise is because of the (I think?) 3 gb of RAM instead of 4-6 on bigger phones I have to close out extra apps a little more often in the background. This isn't a big deal for me because I regularly close them anyway, and I've never felt it was "slow" during normal use. Battery is better than expected; I have most location and tracking stuff off and usually get to the end of a day with 35-40% remaining unless I run GPS on a roadtrip. The form factor is (just like the 5s) amazing; I even wish there was a smaller version.

tl;dr - Bought it, love it, zero regrets.

That’s… exactly what they did.
The 13 and 13 mini have identical specs, other than the screen size and the battery for obvious reasons.
And the data speaks for itself, 3% on the mini versus 38% on the 13.

Eyeballing the chart, looks like the 2020 SE, 2022 SE, 12 Mini, and 13 Mini combine for around 12%, so there def is a market for a smaller and budget device that is actually modern. But Apple hasn’t really made that yet, so maybe Apple should just consolidate those devices? A full screen device in the body of the SE with Touch ID in the power button selling for $400 would probably do quite well.

We will see relatively soon. The direction they take with the next SE will tell us whether Apple thinks there is a business case for this.

If they choose the XR/11 form factor, which has been rumored, or if they go with the 12/13 form factor, then it will be clear they do not see any reason for the budget iPhone to remain smaller than the main line models. We could then assume that every future SE will also use a 6” or larger screen as well. And the small iPhone will be presumed dead, at least for the foreseeable future.

However, they might instead decide to use the 12/13 Mini form factor. Or, they could do something new and create a new small form factor with a 5.6“ screen which has also been rumored. Either way, this would be a device that could receive incremental updates every couple years, but stay otherwise the same shape and size for many years to come - no inheriting anything external from higher tier iPhones aging out of the lineup.
