I do hope they ultimately keep the Minis in the lineup - it's a nice form factor, especially for people who don't watch a ton of video on their phones. It doesn't need to be a huge seller.

The major problem with my 12 Mini was the absolutely atrocious battery life. I upgraded to a regular 13, and it is so, so much better.

+/Max iPhones aren't a new concept??? People that consistently buy those larger phones are willing to wait vs a model that has no user base.

Both 5.4” and 6.7” were brand new form factors in 2020. Everyone had been familiar with small iPhones since 2007. If they hadn’t seen a small phone before, they could get iPhone SE (2016).

And if that wasn’t enough, the iPhone 13 mini with 3% sales confirms again nobody wants small phones.

Personally I wanted to like the Mini but it was a bit too small and I had battery concerns. What I'd really like is a phone of the iPhone X size. I always thought that was the perfect size. I carry the 13 Pro now (as I did the XR before it) but I feel they are unnecessarily large. The phone of the size of iPhone X would be best, IMO.

It has a small percentage but 10 million phones sold is nothing to squeeze at, some manufacturers would kill for that!
Yes bar apple isn't most manufacturers, an another thing, will this3% swirhc to android phones or just to higher margin phones from Apple. I suspect it will be a compinarion rather weighted towards other Apple phones, so my un ecucated guess would be that apple at most looses 1.5% of sales. But then again tgay gave one less product to set a aside a very limited number of socs for one les priduct to advertise etc this costs add up maybe they even out so the liss in sales does not hit the bottom line at all

I've bought the 12 mini and 2 13 mini's for myself and my family, the only two purchases of the pro were done purely due to Apple putting a superior camera and optics in the Pro. Seem Apple is the reason why it doesn't sell more.

This is horrible news. The mini is literally the perfect size for me.
I have a 12 mini and LOVE the size. I really don't understand why people want phones that are so big they can't reach across when holding it. I have big hands and I struggle to reach the corner of even the mini at times. To me, this seems clearly a case of size envy. Who wants the small one when it's next to the big one? You don't find out until later that the big one is too big. And you probably don't give any though to "Wow maybe that small one would have been the right size" ... you just deal. That 75" TV looks awesome in the store, until you take it home and realize it barely fits on your wall. I'll be horrified if I'm forced to go bigger in the future.
Yep. I like a phone that fits in my shirt pocket, which the iPhone 13 Mini does perfectly. I don't want a monster phone taking over my life and requiring a troublesome means of carriage. If I was a girl with a handbag I might have a different outlook.

Have said this here before, but pairing the 13 mini with the iPad mini is the best of both worlds. True portability and one-handed use when out of the house, then basically a gigantic iPhone for at-home/couch use (but without the cumbersome nature of the larger iPads). If I could only own one device I would go for the iPhone Pro size, but because owning iPhone+iPad is attainable I truly believe they compliment each other brilliantly.

Not great. The 13 mini is my favorite iPhone I've ever owned. You're gonna have to pry this thing from my cold dead hands before I go back to a bigger phone. Luckily, iPhones have gotten so good, that this one might last me until Apple decides to release a smaller size in 5 years when everyone's forearms get tired and they start demanding smaller phones again.

It's a pity, I vastly prefer a smaller phone in my pocket, and going from an 8 to a 13 mini was an amazing upgrade because I actually got a slightly smaller device with a much bigger screen. It's about the perfect size. I hope the form factor becomes the next SE

This is really good to hear considering I'm still rocking an 8 and have my eyes set on a 13 Mini. Still bummed there's no TouchID but you can't have it all.

Yeah, there’s nothing that really distinguishes this from the prior SE. a semi-new design would.
So nothing distinguishes the SE3 from the 13 mini?! Lol

Larger battery,
OLED screen with higher resolution,
An Ultra-Wide abs Wide Camera (2 vs 1),
A smaller driver by dimensions overall, meaning smaller in the hand and better reach ability across the screen when grasped in the hand,
I’m unsure if the 13 mini is lighter than the SE 3, it was lighter than the SE 2, so I’ll wager it is,
FaceID greatly improved now that mask mandates is pretty much over with!

Overall faster device and nO issues on MobileIron sync.

I’ve never had complaints about battery life on any iPhone. And I was stoked when they created a mini. But the battery was awful so I had to upgrade. Not sure if it was worse for me than others but after 6 months and an 88% battery health, and Apple telling me that was normal, I lost interest in the smaller form factor.

Because:
1. People usually have both hands free when they are using their phone
2. Typing is faster with both hands
3. It's much nicer to have a bigger screen on a smart phone
4. The medium sized phones fit in men's pockets just fine, and the large size fits ok
5. Both bigger sizes fit in women's purses/handbags just fine
6. Unlike some, most people don't spend most of their time on their phone doing one-handed porn browsing :D

Thus, yes, you are in fact, the 3% minority.

Source data would be helpful. And what about global sales?

The Mini has never had a fair shake when presented as a side-kick to the regular or Pro models. The marketing doesn’t really sell it well enough. It is easy to handle and pocket/bag/purse.

Having had the Pro and Pro Max over the years, I switched down to the 13 Mini and love it, like the days of the 5. I would like Apple to ditch the SE and keep the Mini on their roadmap, even if it has a refresh every 3-4 years. I do miss the big lens a little, but I don‘t use the phone as a primary stills or video camera.

I’d love to be able to petition Apple to bring it back in the future. With potentially a hole punch & pill coming up or eventually all under screen elements for full screen real estate, it would still be a worthy size. And perhaps some Pro features can be added to it, assuming little to no impact on battery life.

At this stage, I have little desire or need to go big if I have a choice. So for the foreseeable future (next 4 years), I’m sticking with the 13 Mini.
Right on!

Totally agree!

For all the haters I have one message for you:

Apple has NEVER advertised the 13 mini in print or billboards in North America - except on Twitter where it was featured for great pics in India when launched just after the March event. Even on Apples site you can ONLy see it or like the previous 12 mini if you select the regular iPhone then choose the mini.

Imagine that: 25.2 million iPhone 12 mini’s in 1 year with absolutely nO marketing to speak of!

I’m willing to bet on a year the 13 mini sales numbers are better and yet again absolutely NO marketing!

Imagine if Apple actually marketed it as an ideal iPhone for users in active sports or travelling with multiple bags in hand?!! Imagine!

What a shame. Switched from a 12 Pro to a 13 mini and it was definitely the right decision, given my tiny weeny, child-like hands.

I’m usually an annual upgrader but, presuming there will be no iPhone 14 mini, I reckon I’ll be skipping this year before reluctantly upgrading next year.

The ability to use a phone one handed has been fantastic for me and I’ll be sorry when the time to upgrade to a 6.1” phone comes.

Because:
1. People usually have both hands free when they are using their phone
Nope. 90% of the time, only 1 hand free.
2. Typing is faster with both hands
yes
3. It's much nicer to have a bigger screen on a smart phone
Nope. It's horrible. I have MacBook Pros, Studio Display, Apple TVs connected to LG 77" OLEDs, etc. for when I need a large screen. A large screen on a phone is useless.
4. The medium sized phones fit in men's pockets just fine, and the large size fits ok
The Mini is not "medium" sized, it it large. The 13 and 13 Pro are huge and enormous, respectively. The Mini barely fits in a front pocket, but still very uncomfortable and difficult to remove when sitting. The only size that fits in a pocket is the original SE (and the 4, 5, etc).
5. Both bigger sizes fit in women's purses/handbags just fine
um, okay.
6. Unlike some, most people don't spend most of their time on their phone doing one-handed porn browsing :D

Thus, yes, you are in fact, the 3% minority.
Everything I do aside from typing is one-handed. The Mini can't be operated one-handed, so I constantly fight against dropping it when trying to tap upper left or right corners. So infuriating and unusable in most cases.

Why? what are you doing wiht your other hand?

What a response. I’m glad you used a numbered list or I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with your salient points; they all came at me so quickly.

D’ya know what? Some people prefer larger phones, some people prefer smaller. I think that’s the end of it. Right there.

But thank you for telling me that typing two handed is faster and that people “usually have both hands free when using their phone.” Without you, I’d never have thought of those excellent points. It’s like you’re speaking to me on a level I can’t quite comprehend… the intellect. Oh, the intellect…

Why? what are you doing wiht your other hand?
  • Carrying a bag.
  • Holding a key.
  • Eating.
  • Stirring a cooking pot.
  • Feeding a baby.
  • Holding a hosepipe.
  • Using a computer mouse.
  • Carrying something else.
  • Rummaging through a pocket.
  • Holding a mug.
  • Having a quick hand-shandy.
  • Making bunny shadows.
  • Doing that thing where you make a duck shape that goes quack, quack, quack…

Come on, seriously. What are you? The chairperson of the Two-Handed Phone Brigade? Death to all one-handers! Heathens, I tell thee!
