I own a lot of high quality leather products...some are decades old. Good leather ages, but it doesn't look dirty and nasty. That case looks nasty (no offense meant towards you). it is cheap leather, and that's why it looks like that. High quality leather wouldn't do that.

It cracks me up that people will look at that and say wow, it is "aging" so nicely. That's bunk.

You really think this strap that you posted is that much different than some of the cases posted above?
We have our answer, time to move along for me.

This would be a fair point if Apple didn't advertise their cases as "premium" leather. My whole problem with Apple and the leather cases is that that try to sell them based on a quality for which they do not possess.

How do you think leather ages? Regardless if it is premium or not, something that is touched often such as a leather phone case will gather a dark patina due to the oils in your hand. The more natural the finish, the more drastic it will change. How soon it will start to change depends on the person. How often do they touch the phone or how much oil does their skin produce. Your experience will vary. If you don't appreciate the aged look, that's fine but don't put down my opinion.

Look at the watch straps posted above...patina happens. Look at the Louis Vuitton purse attached...patina. Both those items use much higher quality leather and it will still show patina.

I bought the red leather case for the 6 + last minute out of necessity. I also ordered a few tpu cases that got delivered later. My plan was to have the apple leather case hold me until then. Well, the cases all arrived, tried them all on, really liked the feel of one of them, but guess what, ended up going back to the Apple leather case.

Didn't think I would like this case as much as I do, which surprised me. So much so that I'm now going to purchase two more (navy blue / black). I gotta say, I like the way the red leather case looks on the black 6 +.

Yeah that aged leather on handles of Louis Vuitton bags is what people love about them, I'll never understand a $500-1000 bag but each to their own right?

Haha yea my wife is obsessed with LV bags. She recently had one repaired and she was really sad to see the fresh new leather since she loved the previous patina. It's been 6 months and it's finally started to blend in with the handles and other trim so she is happy again.

I used to give her a hard time about the price of the bags but I recently purchased a Filson 257. Not as pricey but still...

That looks nice though, I dislike the VL design print to be honest but I'm all for a quality leather bag. :p

Anybody have any recommendations for a good leather leather cleaner that one would use on the olive colored case?

Filson makes a nice leather preservative. Their desciption says "Protect, preserve and restore leather goods with our odorless heavy-duty preservative. Keeps leather supple and protects against water, mold, dry rot and cracking."

Not sure how well it would work on the Apple case though... You could also consider using a saddle soap. I would use a microfiber cloth while cleaning so that it doesnt scratch the leather.

I got a few T-Mobile gift cards through their refer-a-friend program, and they told me they're not eligible to be used on my device or account payments (which is BS, IMO), so I figured I'd get an accessory. Took a look at the 6 Plus cases, and lo and behold, they have the Apple leather cases. And for $45. I may have to pick up a blue or red to supplement my black. I think the red would look spectacular when new, but I'm not so sure it would look good when it's worn. The blue I think will look good even with a little wear.

I think part of the problem is that many people are so conditioned by the crappy and fake leathers that predominate now on many products, they have no sense of what real leather is like, or the care it requires.

Plus, there is no one kind of leather, but many kinds, each with their own characteristics and care requirements.

Leather is a natural material, and will change over time and usage.

If Apple made their cases out of vinyl, at sold them at half the price, they wouldn't get nearly as many complaints.

Apple does sell non-leather cases already, at a lower price.

Apple leather cases are nice and for the most part hold up well. Leather ages. Get over it and move on. For the precision fit and leather it's a decent price. I have the blue and it fits great. The grip and comfort that it gives I believe to be the best for a case. My only improvement would be to make the lip slightly smaller for less interference when using swiping features.

I picked up a red Apple leather case for my 6+ today...

Not a fan to be honest. It fits great, but the grain doesn't feel good enough to justify the premium over the silicone and honestly I've already washed my hands more than once in the last hour after handling it.

Going to return it and get something else.

These leather case threads are hilarious. Apple should have put on the box, " please read macrumors thread "apple leather case" for the iphone 5 before buying for the iphone 6" as everyone is going to make the same complaints year after year after year after year after year.

And what I think they mean by premium leather is that it really is quite nice leather for the thinness it comes in. Of course they could have used real premium leather that is 3mm thick and couldn't be adhered to the hard case properly, and would cost 3x as much then no one would want it and would complain that the phone is 3x as thick and is ugly and too bulky. You can't have the best of both worlds sometimes.

Grow up. Don't buy leather if u don't know what it is. If u want better quality get a Vaja, but like I said it'll be thicker.

Over a month now, how is the midnight blue color looking? Share pics if possible on space gray. Love my black leather case (daily driver) and considering this color as well.

Thanks

Well, I may have just found a problem that might make me dump my leather case.

I noticed that I was getting a lot of oil build up on the face of my phone, which was making it difficult to use TouchID without wiping down the home button multiple times a day. I didn't have that issue on my 5S, and I don't have that issue on my iPad Air 2. But it happens frequently on my 6 Plus. I even considered taking the phone to an Apple Store to get it checked because the TouchID was getting so spotty.

Then it occurred to me: I'm using a leather case, and it's absorbing the oils from my hands. And then I'm handling the case every time I use the phone. So I took off the case, wiped down the phone, washed my hands, and began using it. Now I've only been using it without the case for a few hours, but so far TouchID has been flawless. If TouchID continues to work well without the case, it's most likely the case that was causing the problem in the first place.

It's a shame because it's by far the best case I've found for the Plus so far.

I just got Apple Leather Case for my iPhone 6 Plus.

Went for the Black color and I love the case. It adds minimal bulk to the phone and seems quite sturdy.

Only sore point is the bottom part is uncovered.

The leather is good, but its not like the Vaja case leather.

But overall I am very happy with the case. :apple:

Honestly, that doesn't really make sense. The leather absorbs small amounts of oils in your hands. It's not liked its saturated with it.

There is no reason to put down his opinion as you say. It does makes sense. Some people deposit more oils from there body than others. It can be saturated with it. It is cheap leather and it shows. it is that simple.

For someone who tells everybody to calm down and not to be defensive, you sure are defensive about these cases. Calm down.

I never once told anyone to calm down nor did I tell anyone to stop being defensive. In fact, I never once said these were high quality leather cases. All I originally said was that I liked the patina that developed on someone's case and that patina will develop on all leather... I think you need to take a few minutes and re-read my posts.

I also did not put down his opinion. I said it doesn't make sense based on his observation, not that it was stupid or wrong.

Yes, the thin leather of the case will absorb oils but it will not be "saturated" with them. I also did not say it was impossible that the case could play a role in his experience, I just said it doesnt make sense.

What's more likely is that his hands may sweat more holding the leather case and thus more residue is left on the screen. When he took the case off, his hands may react differently touching the bare metal and now less residue is left behind.

Let me do a last attempt to explain my point of view. I come in peace.

My opinion is that many customers spend 50$ and think they own a luxurious, leather product just because it is leather and it is apple. I love this case, but it is false.
Just look above: "smells brand new"? What exactly does it mean, that it still smells chemicals?
Most people do not care about quality and the consequence is that they can not recognize it, or appreciate it. You do not need to spend a fortune to know what real leather is. This little thing from hard graft costs 30$ (after all, the leather comes from my own country): http://www.hardgraft.com/collections/extras-1/products/keyfold-heritage

This is the reason I find strange that someone like you bigred (that seems to own luxury leather goods) does not see the difference between premium aged leather and the cases above.
You asked me if I think the cases look similar to the straps I linked, the answer is simple: NO!
Real leather aging is close to an art, people that pretend to have a "beautifully aged leather case" after holding an apple case in their hands for three days look funny at best, ignorant at worst.

PS: Try to reply to what people write, not to what you think they imply. I am saying this because your previous posts are full of "if you think this way, go buy another product... reset your expectations" and so on. It is a bad way of communicating.
Also... excessive sarcasm based on your opinion? Really? Must be because you like the look of donatella versace :p
