Artists really should try to stick to putting their music on all streaming services rather than do exclusives.

The issue with having too many services is each one wants your $15-$20 a month. Nobody is going to subscribe to more than two music services and even very few will subscribe to more than one. When music catalogs end up split between multiple services people will get upset.

This doesn't affect music *purchases* since you just buy the track once and it's yours forever. But with streaming this doesn't work. I have Spotify only right now, and am actually thinking of canceling it for Amazon Prime since you get more benefits. There's no way I'm going to pay both!

The album seems like a collection of samples and electronic sounds with some real instruments thrown in for production value, however when we hear the artist begin his vocal track it would seem that his musical tonality is all but present. In a world of pop music that cannot rise above the stuttering, repetitive use of artificial enhancement (if u can call it that) one can only question the audience that gives it encouragement. There is no doubt that if this album was presented to a nation of intelligent and musically appreciative humans it would strive to keep it's head above water until it drifted slowly to the bottom of pop cultures wasteful ocean and became the excrement of yet another Gay fish.

I think the point of this article should be less about what people think about Kanye West or the album The Life of Pablo. This is about someone as big of an artist as Kanye (and potentially artists like Beyonce and Jay-Z - who also are releasing or planning to be releasing exclusively on Tidal) having to give up the exclusive release(s) on Tidal and go to other platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. It shows that no one is willing to pay for Tidal (and/or multiple music subscriptions). That is the true point of this I think and I for one am glad to see it playing out.

Rubbish. We are all different and our level of intelligence has zero bearing on what we find tuneful. What a disgusting thing to say. Those kids in the ghetto with less intelligence than you and I would like this though right? That’s because we Mac users appreciate only real music I trust.

I rarely listen to the radio anymore. Most of what gets air play is nothing my ears enjoy listening to, Mr West's brand included. Filthy lyrics, overused hooks and samples, not much feeling in it.

That's what happens when the desire to make music is overrun by the desire to become famous and make a stack of cash. You loose the heart and soul of it and it just becomes noise.

Did they make him change his lyrics?

he said the album is a "work of art that keeps on changing". he keeps switching out songs on the already released album and re-publishs it. say what u want but at least he seems to bein control over his music unlike many artists that basially are a labels biatch

Ah, a man of principle. I like that. He stuck to his guns, what...a whole two months? Impressive!

:D

"Yo, I'm never gonna puts my **** on iTunes!"

"Alright, here's my latest single on iTunes!"

Mind that whiplash, Mr. Kardashian.

Can't fault him for any of this. He's clearly doing it to make as much money as he can for himself. Which, you know, Apple does by manufacturing in the cheapest place possible, avoiding tax in Europe, using super cheap components (5400rpm drives, skimping on memory). I just find it funny that individuals who want to make money are begrudged but Apple is celebrated. *shrugs*

I've never heard his music.

It's only on Apple Music, not on iTunes.

Even if you want to try to derail the legitimacy of GQ and Rolling Stone, how about the Grammy's? Are you going to find a way to argue their lack of legitimacy as well? Go ahead and look at the rankings. There are only 9 other artists that have won more Grammy's than Kanye West. Sorry, but you look ignorant.

I agree with you, but the grammys lost a whole lot of respect, when MBDTF didn't get nominated for AOTY and TPAB lost to that Taylor swift album...

As I recall, the Grammys are voted on by the same industry insiders that produce this music - the music equivalent of the Oscars.

I swear, I dislike Kanye as a person. But...he is one incredible artist when he puts his all in. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is possibly one of the best albums in the past 10 years. My fav tracks have to be All of the Lights (Interlude) and All of the Lights.

A lot of people don't seem to listen to him before making comments about him. Yes, he has ******* qualities...but so did Steve Jobs. Doesn't mean anybody is less talented because of that.

You go ahead and tell me whose album got a perfect 5 stars from Rolling Stone

Then, go ahead and tell me whose album was declared best album of the CENTURY according to GQ

Sorry, but I don't think Rolling Stone and GQ is "no one".

Sorry but I don't trust those two magazines when it comes to deciding what is cool. I do like Kanye though.

Couldn't you say the same thing about any award or accolade? That being said, it is vary rare for artists to be critically acclaimed by the industry and sell tons of records.

Not to mention his incredible influence on the industry. Kanye was a huge influence on the influx of house and electronic music that's currently on the radio now.

I don't think great review necessary mean popular. This reminds me of those Oscar winning, deep, and art like films that 99% of the people don't know about.
