He replied to a post stating "said no one ever." He then cited two people, doesn't matter if they're any more "legitimate" than anyone else, it simply showed the prior poster's comment to be absurd.

Every submission about Kanye West gets into this same rut. We get it, you (in the general sense, not specifically you Kaibeif) don't like rap music, recycling the same puns you first heard in the early 90s doesn't make you edgy. He's said some really stupid things too, possibly for promotion purposes or maybe he has some screws loose upstairs, but he has a lot of talent as well; whether or not you like what he produces doesn't diminish that talent.

Wrong. There is no way to know how much of his music he is actually responsible for producing. He works with many people some of who probably write his crappy meaningless lyrics. I used to dig hip hop back in the day. Wu-Tang clan comes to mind. But the lyrics actually had things of interest in them. These lyrics talk about women and expensive cars and let's not forget $5000 sneakers. I don't see talent there.

One thing I do find that is interesting with Kanye is that the actual music (not lyrics) at times is borderline avante garde. Because of the mix of wacky elements and unrelated sounds, and material. Again I don't know how responsible he is for producing it to call it talent, but it is at times interesting.

I swear, I dislike Kanye as a person. But...he is one incredible artist when he puts his all in. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is possibly one of the best albums in the past 10 years. My fav tracks have to be All of the Lights (Interlude) and All of the Lights.

Listened to the interlude and then to "All of the Lights". Two extremes, interlude was nice .. all of the lights was just a mashup of non stop noise. It left me feeling mentally exhausted and not in a positive way.

Even if you want to try to derail the legitimacy of GQ and Rolling Stone, how about the Grammy's? Are you going to find a way to argue their lack of legitimacy as well? Go ahead and look at the rankings. There are only 9 other artists that have won more Grammy's than Kanye West. Sorry, but you look ignorant.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_records#Most_Grammys_won
I will gladly argue the Grammy's legitimacy. Now, I have no opinion on Kanye West's talent. This is strictly my view of pointing to Rolling Stone.......the magazine that calls Yoko Ono one of the greatest artists of all time and The Grammy's, as good sources to great artistic talent. Bob Marley never won a Grammy, Led Zeppelin never won a Grammy, Neil Young didnt win a Grammy until 2013 for his song "Angry World". Oh yeah, that is really the best Neil Young song, that deserves a Grammy. Lets not forget the Grammy award winning band "The Baja Men" for Who Let the Dogs Out.

+1. Grammys, Emmys, Oscars, etc are all just popularity contests for their respective industries. Sometimes good stuff wins, sometimes crap wins, and sometimes great stuff gets no recognition whatsoever. It's industry politics, not objective assessment of value (arguably because such objectivity is impossible with inherently subjective mediums like music and film).

Of course there will be instances in which not everyone agrees with the Grammy's vote. I'm not saying that every decision they've made is 100% correct. But are you implying that the 21 Grammy's that Kanye has won equates to 21 mistakes? Because that's laughable.

I don't mind people saying they don't like his music. But where people become OBJECTIVELY wrong is when they judge his artistry based on his attitude. I'm not saying you're doing that, but way too many people do.

How many grammies did Liszt get? Or Rachmaninoff? Or hell...even Mozart? Oh wait...they didn't have grammies back then.

Calling someone "one of the greatest artists of all time" is a pretty big deal. You may think Kanye is great. The douches at Rolling Stone may think he is great. One of the greatest artists of all time, he is not.

Thank you for your subjective opinion. I strongly disagree with you and rightfully assume you have awful taste in music. Moving on.

Yeah. My taste sucks. I really only listen to Bette Midler, Cher, Kenny G, and Ricky Martin. Mostly...

So why doesn't he just stop being a douche? Like, just let his "art" speak for itself without opening his dumb mouth?

He does let his art speak for itself. 21 Grammy's speaks quite a lot. The only problem is he ALSO acts like a douche and because of that, people like you don't give his genius artistry a chance.

An artist and their art do not exist in isolation. The artist's personality is reflected in their art for sure, but it is also reflects on their art. I have certain negative emotions that I feel whenever I hear his voice, his name, or see his image. Those emotions were put there by him, he is responsible for it. It is silly to say I should put those emotions aside when listing to his music. Those emotions there whether I like it or not. They're not emotions I enjoy feeling, so his art makes me feel bad. Not in an introspective or reflective sort of way, where causing a bad feeling is the goal and is a sign of good art. Rather, Kanye's art makes me feel bad in the pointless sort of way.

This is just ridiculous, resorting to FUD. By that measure we can't be *sure* of anything the Beatles did either. You're grasping at straws but even if you want to make an assumption that he never wrote a single lyric, never composed a measure, and hired a voice double to record every word, he still then has a tremendous marketing talent to move as many albums as he has and a talent for team building and talent acquisition to pull together the shadowy conspiracy that's *really* produced all of his body of work.

The irony on a Mac forum where Steve Jobs is arguably the most influential individual here. Do you hate your iPhone when you think of Steve Jobs, because popular opinion was that he was a major dick as well.

Why would I hate my iPhone or Steve Jobs?

Are you sure you aren't Kanye trolling on the MacRumors forums?

You understand internet trolling is making up BS just to get a reaction right? And you realize that the post you quoted me regarding Grammy's is 100% hard facts correct? So if anyone was trolling sir, it'd be you.

Humor me. Why would I hate Steve Jobs? Jobs was a very private person, he did very few things in public. He certainly never tweeted idiotic things or publicly insulted the public's intelligence. As a matter of art, I think more of Ive's art is in the iPhone than Jobs'. Moreover, I don't hear either of their voices when I use the iPhone.

You win, Kanye. You're the best. I give up. I defer to your amazing judgement of music.
