Totally clueless how these things work so am asking: Apple buys Tidal to have access to its high profile roster. What would keep a musician from bailing for no other reason than they don't like Apple or find a better venue?
As a founder let's say Jay Z would probably not have a contract with Tidal thus free to move on with his newly padded bank account, no?

When you buy a company, you buy all the contracts that it has, and they all become yours.

Example: Say Beyoncé was exclusive on Tidal, and had an exclusive deal through 2021, then Apple buying Tidal would mean Apple has an exclusive with Beyoncé until 2021.

Of course, some contracts might say they are void when a company is sold, this makes buying the company less valuable. If Jay Z as a founder, doesn't have a contract, then this is negotiated on he sale.

We'll see if Tim Cook is stupid enough to join Kanya West in any deal, let alone a meeting.
This may be the the final straw that gets Cook thrown out as CEO

Haha, I have to admit: as annoying as all the "calls for Tim's head" are to me, & as much as I like & respect Tim; if he were to ok a purchase of Tidal, while leaving a nutbag like Kanye in any way attached- I'll call for his head too!

I'm sure your $100 of shares will be just fine.
Kanye is an example of why the world is in the state it is in. Waste of space!-a talentless thug who got lucky.

Talentless? Hardly. Maybe not your cup of tea but the guy has made some great music.

Thug? Well we all know what that is code for and exposes your morality and integrity. Good to know.

Complete and total ass-clown. "..hurting the music industry.."? He is the music industry version of Trump. He cares only about himself. Please slip and fall into Kim's gigantic crevasse and disappear forever Kanye.

...

Kanye is talentless? Get educated first instead of judging him being a pr*ck, his bizarre beef with Taylor Swift, and being married to the biggest sperm dumpster on TV.

Absolutely fantastic post. If only there were more people that could recognize nuance and that not everything/everyone is 100% consistent. Thanks for drafting this.

Please don't give Eddy Cue any ideas. o_OAt one time this would have been a joke and I'd be joking with you. Now...something like this could really happen in today's Apple, where they're selling earbuds designed by Will.i.am whose taste is  and letting or appearing to let comments from Taylor Swift influence major negotations. So....Shhhh...really, don't let Eddy hear about this.
It's not Eddy but Tim who stands behind all this stuff: beats purchase, dr Dre, dumb TV shows, etc.

In a series of tweets sent out this afternoon, musician Kanye West claimed that the schism between Apple Music and rival streaming music service Tidal is negatively affecting the music industry as a whole.

West is one of the artists closely aligned with Tidal, who's also one of its co-owners, along with the likes of Jay Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Jack White, and others.

In three subsequent tweets, West suggested that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Jay Z, along with a few other executives at Tidal and Apple, get "on the phone or in a room" within the coming week to discuss a partnership between the two services. It's unclear if West's language is corroborating that talks between Apple and Tidal have in fact been ongoing over the last few weeks, or if he's simply suggesting the idea based off of those reports from earlier in the summer.

In the last tweet, West tells Apple to "give Jay his check now and stop trying to act like you Steve," potentially hinting that Apple is trying out its "hard-nosed" negotiating tactics again, which was recently reported to be causing the company trouble in the television market. If the two managed to agree on a deal, Tidal's purchase could bring Apple a roster of new and exclusive artists, possibly helping the Cupertino company realize its aim for content that puts it in line with "MTV in its 80s and 90s heyday."

Earlier in the year, Kanye was adamant that his new album The Life of Pablo would "never" be made available on Apple Music, opting to keep it as an exclusive on Tidal, but eventually the album did launch on Apple's streaming music service. Rough patches like this have left many to wonder if any deal can be reached between the two rival streaming platforms, so it's interesting to see that one musician so close to the drama unfolding appears to be in favor of ending the apparent feud and letting "the kids have the music."

"Let the kids have the music."

Translation: "I need more kids to give me money."

Also, I would bet that Taylor Swift called up Tim Cook and said, "If you sign with him, you'll see me move to Spotify."

And frankly, I hope she really did.

Kanye has zero class.

He's shilling for his friend Jay Z.

If I was Tim, I would let it die, and then those "exclusive" artists will jump ship to Apple, anyway. It's the most mainstream one.

After Spotify is dead, Apple will have a monopoly.

And if Apple had monopoly, it would be really bad. Since I don't want one company to rule the whole music industry. But it doesn't mean I don't use AM. Glad to use it on my S7.

Kanye, the Kardashians, the Jenners, China Black (whoever that is), the basketball dude who likes dope and whorehouses...
Should all be given a one-way ticket to Raqqa, Syria.
It's worth it if it would stop their ceaseless polluting of the internet.
These media whores are everywhere, all the time, on the 'net and TV.
I still don't know why exactly, they're "famous"?

Yeah, let's make a deal with a guy that made and squandered millions off his lame ideas, average musical talent and knocking up a B list celebrity tramp. Stick with go-fund-me Kanye. Apple can do better with their money other than being Kanye's enabler.
