This is very revealing.

Although I'm sure this sentiment will not be the same for the masses that only want an iPhone because it's an iPhone, it's encouraging to see that at least half that voted were honest enough to not hide how they feel.

It's a good thing Apple has the best Hype Machine, that'll keep em selling no matter what.

Disappointing.

It is an upgrade from the 4s, but not much of an upgrade :(. I'll be keeping my 4s. Can't wait for IOS 6.

I hope the ipad mini is revealed.

People who aren't excited are those who knew everything that was coming out.

The Apple RDF is in full swing already.

I think you'll find the world's thinnest smartphone is the Oppo Finder, Apple, measuring in at 6.65mm.

The other features are a yawn. What are the benefits of the new dock connector other than that it allows the device to be smaller? None that I can see, and the world of pain it will cause with incompatibility with existing accessories is not worth the slightly smaller device.

LTE? Woohoo, welcome to 2010.

Improved audio, faster processor.. usual boring updates that happen with every iPhone release.

YAAAAWN.

I don't get what feature people are always expecting. I think it is a nice upgrade over the 4S. Two times as fast, bigger screen, better battery, and LTE are more than enough for me to use my upgrade...

It is a decent upgrade. People like to complain. It's simple really though; if you don't like it, don't buy it. There are other options available. Some good, some bad...

I see no reason to upgrade to this from my iPhone 4 which is two revisions old now. Where is the killer feature of the last two iPhones? Siri? Panorama camera? Ugh...

i thinks its more difficult now because ip4 is a very capable device. its fast good camera, display etc

i think they needed to go 4.3 inch to really make a good screen size update & wow people. It would certainly stand out more next to ip4 when held side by side

I couldn't resist posting this in my thread after seeing the musical guest at the end of the keynote.

Legitimate question:

when has Apple EVER introduced technology "first"?

I'm relatively new to these products but it seems to be a strategy of Apple to never be on the "cutting edge" with their devices. They seem to take the path of "wait until the technology is more refined and then introduce it".

I think people who are hugely disappointed maybe have a skewed interprutation of the apple strategy. That and/or misaligned expectations.

Listen I bash Apple like crazy in the past year but they definitely introduced things first like the Apple Macintosh.

You're correct on all counts. They rarely ever introduce cutting edge. Those complaining about it being boring, etc. are just regurgitating what they said 4 months ago when iOS 6 was shown. It's an opportunity for them to voice their opinion of what they think is better.

I was planning on getting it, but not anymore..

I'm disappointed as well with it.

Tim Cook: "And one more thing..."

*audience gets anxious about the mystery new feature we've been waiting for...*

Tim: "...we have the Foo Fighters in da house!"

Yeah honestly, people were saying that 4 inches was the best but when people hold it in their hand and compare to the current 3.5 inch iPhone they're going to wonder how big of an upgrade this really was.

It should have been a 4.3 inch taller-and-wider screen.

They never really have with the iPhone though. No 3G in the original, no hspa+ until the 4s. No LTE until now. They usually wait until the tech is more developed.

Battery life improved over the 4S, but with LTE. Nothing to sneeze at right there.

Android phones with LTE are well known for their ass battery life. So clearly Apple has done something right without resorting to a platter phone to accomadate a massive battery.

Well yeah because they're selling to mainstream consumers, not tech enthusiasts like the ones on this forum.

Faster and lasts longer, but not really any new features to enjoy.

Disappointing.

There is no "killer app" with this iPhone, it's just a stretched iPhone 4S, this should've been called iPhone 4GS. And I prefer the 4S' size and shape.

Look at this, it looks stupid, disproportionate.

Nothing innovative and new here, I mean LTE? It's not new, most phones have this. The camera is the same and it does not have optical image stabilization like Lumia, what is really innovative. Three microphones? "Amazing!" Nokia does this. There is one innovative, magical feature though... Panorama.

No NFC
No Wi-Fi Direct
No LED indicator
No real camera innovations(I don't care that the camera module is 25% smaller, who cares!? I want a better camera, Sony released a 13MP(I know MP isn't everything but this is Sony's top of the line sensor) sensor, why didn't you use that?
Is the new connector even USB 3.0?
How about something radically new like removing the home button and replacing it with gestures like Zephyr?

Apple are definitely becoming complacent and super, super predictable. For other companies it's alright, for Apple, who charges premium and is built on being an industry leader in innovation and design, this is very dangerous.

I bought a Galaxy Nexus back earlier this year and had planned on leisurely coming back to the iPhone and get on StraightTalk to lower my monthly payment. Now, I don't even know. :(
