Released one year ago and unmatched yet. Apple is so far ahead in so many areas it’s not even funny anymore*

*it’s actually funny

Do tell, which areas? It's not funny how fast the competition has in fact caught up in many areas and very very not funny how iOS and macOS are buggier than ever.... :(

Why does everything from Apple need to be classed as a "Magical Experience"
This is getting really embarrassing for adults.
Fine if you are explaining things to a group of 6 - 8 year olds in school.

Please stop with the Magical.

They do feel pretty magical at first. They were the first holy **** moment I've had since the original iPhone.

They are amazing. All I will say is that it will depend on the user. Based on your questions, I am guessing these are notfor you. I hope that I am wrong:

You asked about the battery life, so for listening only (not talk) it is about 4-5hrs. When you charge them for 15mins, you’ll get 3 hours! In total you’ll get 24hrs. However, for talk only, you’ll get 10-12hrs - 50% less than listen only.

Hope that helps?
They work great for his use case. See my response:

People wearing these look like absolute fools.
They should come with a sign that says “I am sheep”

Actually, they are the sign.

I don’t like the iPhone X and everyone including this forum knows this. I like Apple products (in general not all) but does not mean that I am sheep.

I have used numerous EarPods from different makers and spent a lot - at the end left rather disappointed. Only a month ago I bought the AirPods and I think they are amazing. I don’t care if you and others think that I look like a fool, as I am very happy with it.

You may be wondering why I responded if I don’t care? Well, I just wanted to say that everyone has the right to voice their opinion, but your post is rather silly. What others look than actually commenting on the product is a weak argument. Also, have you even used it to say whether it is good or not?

Others may say the same about me regarding the iPhone X but I can justify it and this is not the place, as I will go off topic.

What happened to the negative hype of everyone that said they suck without trying them! And they will be a flop lol
Nobody said they would be a flop. They said they are ugly, they are overpriced and they should have a black option. And all the opinions are still valid.

BTW. Ive had mine since launch. Probably the best product Apple has made under the Tim Cook era. (Unfortunately, having ugly headphones be the best thing Apple makes is also kinda sad)

I agree the way they look is not reason enough to write them off. However I do know:

- they need charging every 5 hours
- there are no in-line controls
- they cost $169 yet sound worse than most $40 noise-cancelling headphones
- losing one of them is a real possibility (just look how many single ones are listed for sale on eBay)
- they will fall out of your ear with enough force like any headphones, with no 'safety net'

I don't need to try them to write them off for those reasons.

I want to love these, but the darn things won't stay in. Any recommendations on a silicone adapter as mentioned?

Would you like a non-functioning Apple "smart" keyboard to go with your happy Airpods? You seem like a "courageous" person. Apple just loves folks like you.

Your Post is a disingenuous response to that member and frankly shows how bitter you are with others content with the Airpods. I understand you're not in support of the 3.5 Jack being removed. But the reality is, the success of the Airpods is a separate entity. I believe if the Jack still existed, the Airpods would still be a successful Product regardless because of the simplicity and ease of pairing, Freedom of wires and battery life.

But the fact is, the 3.5 Jack is gone and you have Alternatives without the need to be dismissive of others posts. I commend Apple for the Airpods, even if Bluetooth does not have the sound as wired headphones do, the features with the Airpods trumps wired headphones for me.

You can get a hook that goes around the Ear from Amazon. Only negative is that when you charge them you have to remove the hook.

Let’s not forget other manufacturers are following suit in regards to smartphones.

He’s talking about the crowd that infests Apple centric forums like MacRumors and others. That crowd trashed the iPod, the iPad (remember the feminine napkin jokes), the iPhone. These days it trashes the AirPods, the unreleased HomePod, the iPhone X, Siri, and anything else the company sells.

Just take a read of some of the posts in this very tread.

Yes, I've been on MR since 2002 so well aware of the Apple Hater crowd. They don't count. But no one of rational thought trashed the AirPods. That's my point. I could not care less what the "mom's basement dwellers" think.

I look forward to next years AirPods 2, with a revolutionary cable connecting the headphones so you don't lose them or look like a fool while wearing them.
So, we need an unnecessary cable connecting them to avoid looking like a fool? Do you fear you'd have some sort of "cable envy" of all the other kids on the playground? Is this "conform or be shunned"? Do you feel a desperate need to "fit in"?

I'm older than that, and I generally make my choices for technology based on whether I like how it works (and looks), rather than on if I think it'll make me look cool to others. They can judge me on my words and actions, rather than whether I conform to the narrowest approved path for how to look.

That usually gets an eye-roll from me, but what irks me more is when it slips into the the journalist's toolbox and I see the word gorgeous appearing far too much on a tech site. Apple are allowed to market however they choose and they've been very successful in that area, it just disappoints me to see the writers following along.

This may have been the birth of their magical revolution

You are right! Calling AirPods "Magical" is heresy. AirPods are actually "Miraculous".

How is having to charge your headphones more convenient?
Easier to charge AirPods than plug and unplug and detangle wired earbuds. By far.

And MUCH more convenient to be able to work in my studio without wires.

But that’s my experience. The whole point of my post was that my experience differs from yours.

So you’re saying watching videos with the iPhone X, which costs £1k, in portrait mode is okay? Can you justify that in the 21st century? Crazy.
I have an iPhone X and I am able to watch videos in landscape mode. Perhaps you should go into the Apple Store and get a Genius to show you how to watch videos. It's not hard and I am sure you can learn.

The AirPods for me are great. I hardly ever wore wired headphones because of the inconvenience of dealing with the wires constantly snagging on things. Now I am always using my AirPods with my iPhone, MacBook Pro, iPad, Apple Watch. They literally changed the way I listen to things and I am very happy with them.

Whether you can or not and if you are referring to full screen, does not justify it. Zzzz

Buy a pair and you will.
I know this is true for a lot of people. I just don't think I'm their target customer. I like my $10 Sony pair that clips around the ear just fine.

I swear, I'm pushing 40, but I think and act like I'm pushing 80.
