A LOT of people will choose the LCD version just because of price alone. I like OLED but in all honesty, there was nothing wrong with Apple's LCD panels. They still look good to me. My iPad Pro still looks amazing without OLED. I guarantee you won't get dual camera on the LCD one. Apple isn't stupid.

The new iPad pros, in my opinion, have the best displays of any lightweight portable. The new MacBooks have the best in a laptop. Both are LCD. The new iPhones display is better than the other iPhones but for me the iPad and MacBook are still leagues ahead.

A few years ago Apple trolls about fragmentation of Android phones. Now looks like they are heading the same way sizewise.

At first glance it's interesting that the more expensive 5.8 X will be smaller than the 6.1 9(?), but I'm guessing that's a result of costlier OLED screens and cheaper, larger components in the 9?

I dig it. I'd assume the LCD version will stay in line with the $799-ish base price and then we will see an 999 and 1099 device. Wishful thinking to hop for the 5.8 to drop by $100? lol

iPad Mini-sized phone? I guess if it's what people want...I think the size of the iPhone X is just about perfect. It's much better than the 8/7 Plus, in my opinion.

iPad mini is 7.9". Which of these matches that?
[doublepost=1510596415][/doublepost]Phablets are a dying breed. People convincing themselves they need a bigger phone than they really do, and this comes from a Plus user.

Apple will launch a trio of new iPhone models in 2018, including 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models with OLED displays and a 6.1-inch model with an LCD display, according to respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo believes all three models will be equipped with a full-screen notched design and TrueDepth camera system like the iPhone X.

Kuo expects the 5.8-inch model to have 458 pixels per inch, suggesting the second-generation iPhone X's display will likely continue to have a resolution of 1,125×2,436. He said the 6.5-inch model will have roughly 480 to 500 PPI, while the 6.1-inch model is estimated to have between 320 and 330 PPI.

In his latest research note, obtained by MacRumors, Kuo said the 6.1-inch model will have a lower-resolution LCD display and target the low-end and mid-range markets with an estimated $649 to $749 starting price in the United States. His research note didn't outline any pricing estimates for the next iPhone X, which currently starts at $999, or the so-called iPhone X Plus.

If accurate, next year's new iPhone lineup would consist of the second-gen iPhone X with the same size screen, a larger 6.5-inch version that we're tentatively calling the iPhone X Plus, and a mid-range 6.1-inch LCD model that adopts an iPhone X form factor and features but with a cheaper price point.

Kuo is upbeat on the shipments momentum of all three new iPhone models, and expects them to launch without any delays in 2018, given Apple's supply chain will be well experienced with iPhone X production by next year.

While he doesn't have an absolutely perfect track record, Kuo often relays accurate information from his sources within Apple's supply chain. Ahead of the iPhone X, he accurately detailed its 5.8-inch display, glass and stainless steel design, lack of Touch ID, 3D sensing, and several other features.

We've also already heard a few rumors about a 6.46-inch iPhone launching next year, so iPhone X Plus rumor season is well underway.

Been checking out Macrumors for a while but today decided to join. Long time Samsung user but have been disappointed with the push to curved edges and don't see much else out there that I currently like. I do not like the form factor of the iphone 8, but really like the X. That being said I really hope this ends up being correct. I think the 6.1 LCD would be a really nice phone. I don't need OLED, and find the X price to steep. The only hope is my current phone could hold out another year for this model.

That’s a design decision to put the camera in a bezel.

JDI, which is Apple’s main supplier of LCD unveiled a thin bezel display more than a year ago. And yes, LCDs can bend. JDI proved that as well.

Looks like JDI just started manufacturing these a few months ago. http://www.j-display.com/english/news/2017/20170619.html Will be interesting to see if manufacturers can notch out a section for the front facing camera and finally make an LCD screen phone with small bezels on all four sides. Although, if you follow that link, it does look like the bottom bezel of the final production component is still about double the size of the top and side bezels. And I wonder about the depth needed behind that bottom bezel as well. Because if it's not extremely thin, then phone manufacturers will still have to have a large bottom bezel with that display to fit in the charging port.

It isn't too late for Apple to brand an iPhone X-series. Every Best Buy or carrier employee I have spoken to refers to it as the iPhone Ex anyway. That "s" names messed up the naming completely out of order.

The LCD Plus will have iPhone 9 all to itself. It doesn't need a Plus at the end thanks to The X killing the 4.7" models.

2017 - X (many of us just call it The Ex)
2018 - X1
2019 - X2
2020 - X3

I feel like watching X-Men right now. X2! ;)

^ The original X1 for me, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 (2008). I always wanted that phone.

You gotta brand it X because it rhymes with seX!

Now this is what I'm talking about...I'm taking back the X that I have. I love it, but want a bigger screen.

This is what I am thinking what will happen for 2018:

iPhone 9 (LCD model) = $799 and $949/will come in 64GB and 256GB sizes, A11 processor, 3GB of RAM, same cameras as iPhone X
iPhone XI (5.8" OLED) = $999 and $1149 /will come in 128GB and 512GB sizes, 4GB of RAM, upgraded front and rear cameras, A12
iPhone XI (6.5" OLED) = $1249 and $1399/will come in 128GB and 512GB sizes/ 4GB of RAM, upgraded front and rear cameras, A12

That seems right!

How would you have designed it? Larger bezels all the way around? Top and bottom chins? Interested in your opinion.
I LOVE when people think they can design better...

When you ask what the phone should've looked like; they describe a generic Android-slab, bezeled phone

I'm looking forward to an iPhone X model that is the weight and thickness of the iPhone 7.
You should have written, I am hoping that one day Apple will be able to design and manufacture an iPhone with a glass back that is the same weight and thickness of the iPhone X.
Because the glass is the issue. Now maybe they change the back to a different material so it can be lighter and thinner but it won't be the iPhone X of today. Apple loves thin and light so this is the best they could do. I can't see them using these materials making it as thin and light for years and years.

Whether someone does the iUP or decides to sell their previous year's model to offset the cost of the newest model (what I usually do), you're not really out of pocket that much more. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Must say this size is much better than any plus size. They better keep the same specs with the smaller screen instead of forcing their customers to purchase the bigger model to get great features.
