Good for Apple! I'm an Android user, and my next smartphone probably won't be an iPhone (I prefer Samsung's file system, customizability, and several other aspects of the OS over Apple) but I'm glad that competition is yielding more compelling devices for end users. I hope the foldable Galaxy sets the bar even higher!

Did they?....that is why these Forums, and every other on the planet was full of folks claiming the mighty success of Apple achieveing underscreen TouchID as little as 3 months ago and these so "experts" who commentate on this stuff were saying the same thing....if Apple cracked FaceID or it was working as well as they hoped "so long ago" why is TouchID still being fitted to every new product that Apple has launched in the last 12 months [one could say if it was couragous to remove the headphone jack because the world is moving to wireless, why again it it still be supplied on every single new product since it was removed from the iphone 14 months ago?]

Serendipity me thinks

It was all forum talk, rumors and false hopes lol. Apple ditched plans for under the screen Touch ID a year ago.

It took Android 5 years to come be competitive with the iPhone. Right now their midrange phones offer the same if not better hardware than the iPhone. Some can argue the A11 bionic is so much better on paper, but I prefer real world test. As of now it shows that the Galaxy S8 note is faster than the iPhone 8 plus.

... just wait what huawei will introduce on 16 October... and don’t forget the Galaxy S9 is around the corner. Rumors say it will be introduced in January 2019.

Another interesting link:

And by seeing the front side of the phones... iPhone 8 looks really dated compared to the competition. But that’s my personal opinion.

Whenever I see animated emojis brought up I immediately feel bad for those that have little imagination as to what Apple's AR technology will bring.
Not that I care a jot about a gimmick like AR, but what does FaceID have to do with it?

to bad
Apple is setting the stage for the next decade of what people expect from smartphones.

Much like the original iPhone launch, it took android years to catch up and make truly competitive products.

Same with Touch ID.

No surprise it is happening again.
to bad samsung makes the cameras as well lol

The iPhone 7 is faster than the 8, which means iOS11 is the issue.

Nothing from Huawei or Samsung in 2018 will be faster than the A11. Early reports from Qualcomm's Snapdragon successor is barely faster than the A9.

First with multi-touch (just getting it as smooth as the iPhone took a decade)

Then retina
- Touch-ID
- Secure enclaves that doesn’t expose the private key
- 64 Bit
- Swift/APFS
- CPU design
- GPU design
- Camera and haptics(arguable)
- AR
- And now TrueDepth.

Apple is/was years ahead in all these categories. They have set a tremendous foundation.
Don't forget:

3D Touch
TrueTone
ApplePay (hardware and software)
Lightning standard
3.5mm jack removal (yes it's a good thing for most users no matter how loud some people whine)

As I’ve shown in my post earlier... they are faster in real life. So their phones are already faster. If iOS 11 is the problem than Apple has a bigger problem because it will take another year for iOS 12.

The lightning standard is not a standard, it's an Apple-only thing that makes it more expensive and less convenient for the users to actually charge their devices and use accessories. That's no improvement.

Removing the headphone jack is just the removal of a very convenient feature. It's not good for anyone except Apple's bottom line, since they force their users into proprietary wireless.

I really don't see the Technological Advance here. Microsoft have something extremely similar in their surface books/tablets that uses Intel real sense 3D tech ( infra red cameras etc) to sign in and it works fine. Nothing new other than its in a phone and the DOT projector seems extra compared to the MS system. So I wall BS on 2.5 years lead this tech has existed for a while. So many believe any old **** when it comes to apple, really annoying.

I could care less how long it takes competitors. It's not a feature I am interested in. In fact, NOT having TouchID will slow my desire to upgrade to newer iPhone models that have only FaceID as I prefer the TouchID experience for unlocking my iPhone. I don't think I'm alone, either. Apple needs to work on putting a fingerprint scanner IN the glass if they are hell-bent on making only full glass front phones.

See my earlier post. Apple is already behind in speed and battery with the competition.

Been able to animate Poo emojis well is not functionality that even needs to be caught up on, and neither is Face ID, they are not technology leads like the original iPhone was over other phones.
Current fingerprint sensors are still very convenient ways of unlocking your phone, FaceID may be slightly better (but it may not be too) but it's not a change that's going to make people want the iPhone over an Android or even an older iPhone, and as far as animated Emoji go, well let's just say the pile of Poo emoji is a great example of the level of amazing technology that is.
Animated Emoji will be nice for teens and kids, but anyone else is going to get bored of them in about 10 seconds.

The only thing that my employees (mostly in their 20’s) are freaking out about and the must have thing about iPhone ex (as they call it) is the Animojis. Most of them can’t get it because they’re on metropcs = full price upfront and they spend all their money on weed and drinking but those that are on regular plans are going to order it. Personally I’ll try to preorder it, but if it’s months out at 3:01AM I’ll wait till the spring refresh and see what they do.
