Hard to tell who is more desperate in this situation -- Kohls thinking Apple's target will come to their stores (they won't) or Apple thinking the folks that shop at Kohl's regularly are interested in an Apple watch...

The Kohls stores near me (affluent suburb) are filled with a mixture of people. I think that Walmart is more likely to have shoppers who don't want the AW than Kohls is and the AW is already at Walmart.

Kohls is just a department store that offers discounts that are actually not heavy discounts because they mark stuff up before they discount it. LOL.

That said, Kohl's cash is an incentive to buy there. It's easier to accumulate that Best Buy rewards (another thing you can use toward an AW).

In fact, the same people who shop at Best Buy likely shop or have shopped at Kohls if they are adult humans who live near a Kohls.

They have good deals on bedding, towels, etc.

Kohl's actually has some crazy discounts sometimes... hopefully the Apple Watch will qualify for these, if so it could end up being one of the cheapest places to buy one. That said, I haven't been to a Kohl's in years.

Apple started selling iPhones at Walmart when Steve Jobs was CEO.

Does Walmart have an "Apple-level purchasing experience"? Apple started selling products at Walmart when Steve was still CEO.

Thank you.

*Apple* is the one who has always pushed themselves as a luxury brand. I don't care who shops at Kohl's, but Apple as a brand has always tried to cater to the elite market, not the everyday market. Hence their pricing strategy.

Yet you can buy Apple phones at Walmart so.....

Mostly, but they also have a watch and jewelry department, right at the middle of the store near the entrance of the Kohl's I've seen. Not a big fan of Kohl's but they seem popular enough with a less downmarket audience than Wal-Mart, and as has already been pointed out, $269.00 is not exactly a luxury-priced product these days. Heck I was in a Sunglass Hut the other day and people were lining up to buy $175.00 sunglasses, and I was easily the youngest person in the store.

I guess the jewelry department could make sense but it doesn't seem like the store to buy tech stuff. It could be an attempt to get more moms to buy Apple Watch.

This is just silly. They can put them in all the stores around the world, it won't help there sales.

People aren't buying the Apple watch for many reasons, price, utility, etc. But the one thing I have never head is they didn't get it because it wasn't at the store they regularly buy from.

Second, most smart phones out there are android, so 87% of the world's smart phone market can't use it. And yes, that figure includes periphery countries (third world). The only point I'm trying to make with this is that they have a limited market.

This just shows how Apple is lost at sea, and captain dongle-head is is clueless.

Typical un-educated, negative MR poster

Apple has installed base of 650M users. Close to that of Google Android (not counting Non-Google Andoid China)

The AW Series 2 has 4 week wait time

They also cut their initial orders dramatically and are spreading out distribution so as a result it appears there is a long wait when in reality that is only at Apple itself.

Many retailers that sell it are chock full of stock and then some.

Perhaps he/she wasn't the uneducated one. You're welcome, and I won't even charge for the schooling.

Dunno about the moms thing, but Apple's competitors are already in these mass market stores, so they have to decide if they are going to concede whatever demographic segment is represented by them. Apple can hardly afford to turn their back on any market. The argument against them selling in stores such as Kohl's seems to be nothing more than snobbery.

No current "sellers" have any watches to actually sell but yet they are adding another retailer to "sell" watches that aren't in stock anywhere.

I am so confused with Apple right now.

The reason why the Apple Watch doesn't sell well is because it's a $250+ fashion accessory. And it's not a very good looking one at that either lol.

I bought mine because I wanted one. Frankly I don't care where they sell them. They could sell them at big lots and that would be awesome!

People who get too concerned over where their stuff is sold are usually not very affluent anyway.

The only thing I don't like to buy at cheap stores is furniture. It tends to be made of mdf and I don't like how it looks

Kohls is something of a discounter? I guess watch bands are not selling themselves. I can't wait to buy my next computer from Kohls. Oh wait, by next year Apple will not be selling computers!

Yeh, I saw where they said it was not an electronics business partner, but the Apple brand and strategy is defined by the stores that carry it. Enough said.
These days all department stores are discounters. Look at Macy's and JC Penney. Heck, even Nordstrom has sales about every month now. It used to be Nordstrom had only 2 sales a year.

Like I said, world statistics because united states isn't the world. It's not even the largest smart phone market any more. Welcome to the 21 century.

Kohl's is a UNITED STATES ONLY company, so only the UNITED STATES market matters in this particular discussion.

Please get back ON TOPIC, not off.

Partially but there's obviously a perception of the kohls brand.

Kohl's will begin selling the Apple Watch at 400 of its 1,100 stores across the United States on November 15 as a way to boost its activewear business (via Fortune). Apple's partnership with the retail chain is said to help the Cupertino company reach into areas of the country that don't have Apple Stores or official Apple resellers with Apple Watches, as well as "reach a more modest-income shopper and a wider-ranging clientele."

In total, Kohl's locations will stock 10 different Apple Watch models, but the company didn't go into specifics about which. In the retailer's Black Friday ad, the Apple Watch Series 2 in Space Gray with Black Sport band and Series 1 in Rose Gold with Pink Sand Sport Band are both advertised.

Within the store itself, the Apple Watches will be displayed on stands that measure four feet tall, and the Kohl's staff will be educated on the devices to help customers in purchasing an Apple Watch, which Kohl's sees less like an electronic device and more "as an active and wellness device."
On Black Friday, customers will be able to receive Kohl's Cash when purchasing an Apple Watch: $105 for a Series 2 and $75 for a Series 1. The retailer hopes that its introduction of the Apple Watch goes over as well as its profits for selling FitBit devices, which is now "a $100-million-a-year business" for Kohl's.

In September, Macy's announced that it would be the first United States department store to begin selling Apple Watch when the device launched that month. The new Kohl's deal of 400 retail locations is much larger than Macy's, which began selling Apple Watch in 180 of its stores in September.

Lol, goodbye Macy's, hello Kohls.

I guess this means Apple is buying "shelf-space" at Kohl's?

Anyone here from the retail business who could guesstimate how much Kohl's might earn in this deal (4th stands for iW at 400 location plus sales staff provided by Apple)?

Yep, and I basically said the same thing regarding walmat. Nothing says premium brand then being sold at walmat ;)

Come on now. What's not premium about going to a place to buy a 24-can Schmidts Sports pack, sweatshop-made underware and an Apple watch?

well the watches from closed Galleries Lafayette floor had to go somewhere;-)

i hope they got huge warehouses for all the unselled watches
Will this help Kohl's? Not sure, but in light of this quote: "areas of the country that don't have Apple Stores or official Apple resellers with Apple Watches, as well as reach a more modest-income shopper and a wider-ranging clientele", it's an excellent move for Apple to try to expand adoption of the Watch in the face of now apparently disappointing sales figures.

And KC might be the incentive that makes the difference between a sale or no sale for a fence-sitter.
