He tends to be very reliable but he's been wrong plenty of times. He also predicted under screen touch ID for iPhone X two years ago which never happened. He's good but he's not perfect. AND LOTS CAN GET LOST IN TRANSLATION.
I've noticed he's usually spot on with what is happening but he can be a bit hit and miss with when it's happening.

why? faceID is far better
use it on a table when you're sitting. Does it work? Does it work laying down with your head on a pillow?
there are certain situations faceid is nice but Touch ID just worked in more situations.

I like Face ID but I would really like the ability to decide which to use (or to require both for the ultimate security). Face ID works great the vast majority of the time even when I am wearing sunglasses but I have a pair of mirrored sunglasses and a helmet with a full face shield that Face ID will not work with. Likewise, I liked Touch ID but it was a hassle in the winter when I was wearing gloves. I really hope this rumor is true as I would love to be able to quickly switch between the two forms of authentication.

FaceID definitely works with my head on a pillow. Even with a blanket covering the bottom of my face.

I have no problem with them adding Touch ID, too, though.

Great — as much as Apple likes to drive people to a single standard, in this rare case I think a bifurcated approach is superior.

Some people swear by Face ID, and more power to them. Personally, I get 3-5 false negatives a day (and have two pairs of sunglasses that flat out don’t work); I can’t wait to be rid of it.

Never seems to work with mine if its slightly turned. Or part of my face is being covered. Lounging around on the couch and bed its been more of a hassle for me than Touch ID was ever. I have to aim it at my face if I want to open it and use it for something quick.

FaceID is nice; my wife likes it a lot. The only issue she has is that it's too easy to accidentally pay with FaceID, because you're looking at the phone to see what's happening then the "pay with FaceID" pops up.

Beats me. Both my iPad Pro and iPhone XS work great for those situations.

You have to double-press a button, too. How can you possibly accidentally pay?

Apple's marketing division already writing up the walking back of Face ID

Why? FaceID will still be there.

Doesn’t seem unlikely. However, _a lot_ can change in two years time, especially in the tech sector. For now, Apples focus is Face ID and rightfully so given it still has time to mature and continue to expand into Apples Product lineup.

Oh my I sure hope so. I like Face ID ok but it is slower and inconvenient sometimes such as when my phone is on a desk and I want to wake it to view something quick without picking it up. I miss that about Touch ID.

When I had an iPhone with Touch ID on the desk and it lit up I would pick it up and look at it so nothing changed for me.

They do sell Qi chargers where your phone is propped up. You could have the phone be charging and Face ID would work without you having to move your head over the phone.

If Apple makes a phone that has both technologies available, I would opt to use fingerprint-sensing over Face ID in every every single scenario, be that unlocking or Apple Pay.

Presumably you'd have the capability to shut one one off, but as the article states, they are complementary, not competitive. So, if you're wearing gloves, hands are wet, you're cooking are sitting at your desk, working out, or any one of zillion scenarios where you can't or don't want to use TouchID, you're all set. What a home run this would be.

How is that even possible? you HAVE double-click the button to activate the pay process.

Because it’s not. It’s slower, more false positive, more false negatives, it can’t be used in landscape or when the phone is not facing the user (for example while on a table) etc.

Face-ID is not designed work with sunglasses. The camera has to see your eyes.

It also won't work with Halloween masks. What a flawed system!

Kuo is wrong on this one.

1. It will be Touch-ID instead of FaceID not both, because the whole point of in-screen Touch-ID is that you lose the bezels.
2. It will be 2020, it's ******** that the tech is 12-18 months away when the tech is already here and being used in flagship android phones, it just can use a little bit of improving to get to the point where it's again as good as Touch-ID was in terms of speed and reliability. But that's very much doable for 2020.
I agree with your number 2 but not number 1. Removing Face ID removes more than notch. It also removes Animoji (and any advanced front facing features) which is more important to most users than Face ID security features.

Nothing like a rumor tailor-made for the tiny fraction of the population who prefer TouchID.

I don’t believe this rumor at all. What’s more likely is Apple will keep improving FaceID to make it faster and more accurate to eliminate the few specific situations people have trouble with.

The ONLY way I could see TouchID being better than FaceID is if they had a full screen sensor. And I think that would be incredibly difficult/expensive.

I prefer touch ID...having to center my face on the display is needlessly time consuming.
Never had to do that. Ever.

Don’t have any of those issues. And it’s much faster if you’re using password auto fill or launching an App that requires authentication - since you’re already looking at your iPhone the App launches. No need to take the second step of tapping the fingerprint sensor after tapping the icon to launch the App. Landscape? Don’t care - I got used to holding my iPhone upright to unlock the first day I had it. On a table? Sorry, I like to look at my phone if I need to see something, not try to read it at some odd angle on a table.

It's slightly slower on paper but actually faster than Touch ID the way most people use it. And it does not suffer from more false positives or negatives unless you train it wrong. People are still sharing their Face ID unlocks with similar looking family members which will introduce false positives and negatives into the training process. And iPad already unlocks in landscape mode so I would expect the 2019 iPhone to also support this. The rumored new iPhones will also supposedly contain improved front facing cameras (possibly wider?) which might improve the unlocking when the phone is on a table top surface for instance.

My only complaint about Face ID is when I wear my polarized sunglasses. It never fails when I wear regular sunglasses but rarely works when I wear polarized lenses - similar to Touch ID when my fingers are wet.
