TouchID is bad when you have wet or dirty fingers or wear gloves it doesn't work at all. FaceID works always.
But it is nice if it has both, then you can choose..

I am fine with Face ID, or both. I wouldn't want to revert back to Touch ID only. As long as you can place your finger anywhere on the screen, all good on my end.

I don’t have that problem either. What type of sunglasses do you have? Here’s mine:

Both are prescription eyeglasses. Top ones are polarized and have anti reflection coating. I never did anything specific with FaceID (like learning a second face with glasses). I just use it every day normally and when I got my sunglasses didn’t even think about whether they would work.

FYI, they are Oakley prescription sunglasses. My regular glasses are prescription Ray Ban and they also have an anti reflection coating on them (they have a green tint at certain angles). Neither of them have caused any issues with FaceID.

Can end users unlock a TouchID or FaceID phone just by picking it up? It maniacally goes to the home screen and you can use it without doing anything?
My polarized sunglasses are Ray Ban but they are no prescription. The funny thing is if I tilt my head up a little and let some ambient light contaminate the polarizing effect, the iPhone will see my eyes and unlock after an extra second or two.

If this is the case, it would make more sense as to why they are trying to get rid of 3D Touch.

I don’t think that’s why they would eliminate 3D Touch, at least not this early if this rumor proves to be accurate. 3D Touch is a severely under-used feature that Apple never really marketed, it’s more of a cost factor and Tim Cook also mentioned that it was very difficult to implement into the iPhone when it was first debuted with the iPhone 6s. Not to mention, with the expanded capabilities of the software version of haptic touch, it would be more cost prohibitive for Apple to remove it for something that’s not really Widely used/appreciated.

FTR, 3D touch has been rumored to be eliminated for at least two years now, it’s never happened.

why? faceID is far better

Until Apple says improved fingerprint scanning or whatever other biometric security scanning is better and then people like you will jump on that bandwagon and say that is better than FaceID.

I have seen this rhetoric played out for years by forum members who flip flop to the marketing manipulation. :p

As someone with sweaty palms, as far as I'm concerned, FaceID is the infinitely superior technology to anything requiring fingerprint ID. Using TouchID on my 7 drives me nuts. Using FaceID on my wife's XR is the stuff of dreams. Can't wait to upgrade.

Does not matter to me if it is Touch or Face biometric authentication, however what if this new version of the Touch technology fixes the shortcomings of the present implementation. What is your view on it then?

Didn't Apple themselves claim that Face ID is much better than Touch ID and that's the reason they were completely switching over to it? I doubt they would come back out with it because they believe Face ID is better.
Things change and technology changes.

I think they went all-in with the Face ID was because they couldn't crack having Touch ID under the glass, and all the previous rumors support that theory.

So, Apple tries to sell Face ID, and its best feature over Touch ID2, greater security. In reality, Touch ID is still very secure, and if Apple could have gotten it to work under the glass, that is what they would have done, imo.

Besides, Apple once claimed that people wouldn't use a plus sized iPhone. Sometimes Apple backtracks, and Face ID might be another one added to the list.

Awesome, technology in 2 years that the Chinese companies are implementing today. With much cooler foldable displays coming from Huawei and Xiomi later this year, we'll see Apple get there in about 5 more years. No wonder Apple's place in the market keeps falling. Heck, Samsung just stays at no. 1 because of the sheer volume of phones it makes and ships.

Err no nobody on the market has the quality of Face ID and under screen Touch ID..there’s a reason why apple are holding off on this as it isn’t easy tech to get right that combines the two

And what can you do other than see the notification when it unlocks ?
I decide if I can ignore the notification or pick up the phone and respond to it. At any rate, the phone is already unlocked.

My original point, agree or disagree, is at least for NYC before all carriers blanket every square inch it will be a few years. If I wanted a future proof phone I would wait till 2021.

I know it’ll have been mentioned previously in this thread but Apple could have considered Touch ID on the ‘Siri’ button (like Samsung/Sony?) or on the back with the Apple logo. Perhaps they did but felt it wasn’t for them? Who knows.

However I’m happy using either/or; sometimes when FaceID hasn’t worked 100% TouchID would have been a ‘bonus’-especially when it comes to entering a password/passcode.

I'm not sure what all the silly arguing is about. I have a Note 8. I use the fingerprint sensor most of the time. When my hands are wet or I have gloves on, I use the face sensor. It would be great for the IPhone to have both technologies. How does it hurt anyone to have both?

At this point the only excitement for 2019 will be if Apple regains its senses and lowers the price for the new iPhone to $699 for the top-end version and $499 for the entry-level.

Not likely with all this Tariffs stuff coming up...

Having simple facial recognition is fine. Apple's overdesigned FaceID requires an array of expensive notch-making sensors which only serve to make the recognition marginally more secure and support animoji's. No one copied Apple's implementation.

Apple used FaceID to justify $1k+ phones. Let's see if Tim passes the saving on to the customer when he removes it.

Not possible. I know it’s not possible because when I said as much in a previous post here (my reasoning based on rumors that Apple was trying but couldn’t get the tech to work in time for the iPhone X release) a bunch of know it all fanboys on here said no way, not gonna happen, FaceID is the future and the finger print scanner will never come back. Idiots....
