This just reaffirms my decision to upgrade from a 6s Plus to the 8 Plus in September once its price is lowered by $100+ due to the new iPhones being released. I love 3D Touch and have zero interest in having to deal with the notch and Face ID.

I plan to hold on to the 8 Plus until they release touch ID under the screen or significantly reduce the size of the notch and improve Face ID (e.g. v2 or v3).

...It will, however, result in a 15 percent increase in the cost of the touch panel, resulting in a higher purchase price of $23 to $26.

To offset the cost of the new display it plans to use, Kuo believes Apple will remove the 3D Touch functionality on the 6.1-inch iPhone...

So Apple is cutting a feature based to offset a $3 per phone wholesale price increase -- or am I just misunderstanding this?

Apple is not gonna go BACKWARDS in technology, trust me will will not see a physical home button for a long long time!!
The idea is they will put Touch ID in the screen, eliminating the need for Face ID altogether and allowing for a 100% screen front. They must need to remove 3D Touch to accomplish this? Who knows this is all rumors at this point. On second thought they still need light sensor and front camera. Again, it’s all fiction for now.

How do you type without 3D touch?! It saves so much time, it's one of the reasons I can't use the SE. Also, the app switcher.

RE: "With this display technology, Apple will add a thin-film sensor to the touch film sensor included in the CGS, but the purpose of the new layer is unknown."

NOT true, it's purpose is to enable support for a "pseudo-Hardware Home Button" !

Kuo really should have been able to figure that out !! ... NOT Rocket Science !!!

Yes! Make it a 7" phablet and call it a day. It will definitely fit in my pocket since I don't wear super skinny, ultra slim, yoga pants like most "guys" do.

Bulging pockets are way more embarrassing than "guys" wearing slim fit jeans.

No 3D Touch, No Buy! One of the features I use the most on my iPhone.

Same. 3D Touch is essential for text entry but otherwise I don’t use it that much; maybe on Control Centre and some app icons sometimes.

I definitely couldn’t give it up entirely.

I have to say that neither would require ForceTouch if iOS wouldn't suck so much at text input and setting cursor position. Especially when it comes to selecting text it's probably the most frustrating OS I've ever used. The App-Switcher advantage is obsolete on the X design anyway.
Some other things like shortcuts are nice, but that as well wouldn't be necessary if the OS would allow to create a proper home/lock screen.

Nah.. they are just unaware how this new tech works. 3D touch is great, although unutilized outside core iOS. I keep force pressing the screen wondering where is it, when I am using older iPhones.

With the exception of the quick cursor action (turns the keyboard into a trackpad) and the hard press on the left to access the multitasking screen on the non-X iPhones, there is nothing about 3D Touch that can’t be accomplished by a simple long press (and is on older iPhones and all iPads). Apple never put its full weight behind the technology. Good riddance.

Yes, I’ve been saying this for a long time! Give us a long press to access shortcuts and finally being the functionality to the iPad as well. The haptic feedback is like the animated zoom doc on the Mac - it’s cute for about a day. Good riddance indeed.

I also do not use 3D touch. In fact, I have it disabled. Very much looking forward to the 6.1inch model. It should end up being cheaper and slightly smaller in footprint than current Plus models.

so what would be comparable to iPhone 8, i have the 7 now, But want the plus size 2018 model?
