this is what happens when you have such an incompetent CEO, fire him and get someone that cares about what people want,i dont give a **** about how good face id is, i love touch id and will not buy a phone without a fingerprint scanner, my 2 year plan finished last month and i was going to wait till next year hoping touch id will come back but now that i know it won't, its time for me to upgrade my 6s to galaxy s8, i'm gonna love the fingerprint scanner in there, and the beautifully designed oled that looks better than the junk on the iPhone x.

They know how well it works; you think they want 80 million pissed off customers this year?

They definitely don't want to piss their customers, no company wants that. But they do make mistakes or bad designs, like everyone else, regardless, every now and then. It's only natural and has happened already in the past.

Especially when they make a solution and then try to invent a problem this solution will solve.

Faceid doesn't solve any problems for the user. Apple will surely get it to work eventually but it will not be a big selling point over systems based on fingerprint recognition.

In an automobile, not only does Face ID not solve any problems, it causes a major one. With Touch ID, you can unlock your iPhone without even glancing at it if you know where it is.

When people realize how significantly more dangerous the use of the phone with Face ID is while driving, they will realize that this cool technology is not so practical in real life situations.

This will be a boon to law enforcement though. It will be easy to spot anyone attempting to use their iPhone while driving. They'll be holding it in front of their face and seen repeatedly saying Ho Ho HO or more foul language! :D

Oh well.

In an ideal world FaceID + Fingerprint would have been nice.

But we complain about price, having Fingerprint under the display isnt a cheap solution either.

Guess If I get an X (Even with the disgusting price), I might not feel that bad since TouchID may not return next year.

I suspect Kuo to be Cupertino's ventriloquist's dummy
Mission: grow market confidence on FaceID - then ventilating silly farts like this.

I’m sure Apple appreciates your concern, but not to worry. They’ve been testing it for over a year. They nailed it.

I do wonder why you are putting yourself through all this unnecessary trauma; does it add to your happiness? No need to shorten your life with all this anxiety and worry, it’s not worth it!

Samsung give the choice. Iris recognition fingerprint recognition et al already. You like headphones wired? Have em. You like wireless? Have em. Sometimes courage isn't what's made out to be and I told that to the Lion in the Wizard of Oz as well. (He's switched to Android because of that)

If this is the case, then there won't be three models next year. They will go back to regular and + models. And both will be bezel-less models like X. If that is the case, hopefully, the price points of 8 and 8+ will be retained for XI or 8s or whatever they call the phones next year.

I hope you never have to turn on or adjust your A/C or heater while driving because it sounds like you might crash if you glanced at those...

Don't use your damn phone while driving anyway.. Touch ID or Face ID!
EDIT:
Also once you unlocked with touch id you still glance the screen, otherwise why would you be unlocking the phone?

So you ara against law enforcement helping you not having an accident and following the rules?

Samsung's retina scanner is a joke. You need to get your eyes in two circles for it to work. And fingerprint sensor placement is annoying. I would rather not have such options. That said, any company, has to take a decision at every point on options to give to the customer vs. what they believe is the best. I prefer Apple's way of working so I buy that. I know people who prefer the granular options Android gives and they buy that.

By the time all the iPhone X users beta test the face detection, this technology will be good for the 2018 phones.

No Thanx! I will NEVER buy a Face-ID device.
Don't shoe-horn things into consumers faces that they've never asked for and don't take away things they care deeply about. Enjoy the free-slide in sales. It may not be immediate, but it will be profound.
You apple doomsday prophets are the best. Eventually, one of you will maybe get it right. But so so many so far have been so so wrong.

Couple thoughts:

1) Apple must be very confident in this feature. This could be very damaging if this doesn't catch on.

2) Apple has done this in the past. Removed the floppy disk, removed the CD drive, removed the 3.5mm jack, etc. Some of those have seen history prove Apple was right. Some Apple is still trying to prove was the right move. Touch ID will definitely be added to that list, time will tell which way it is viewed.
removed USB-A

That’s what doesn’t make sense to me.

The SE is a huge seller in so-called emerging markets, like South Asia and Africa.

Are they going to move the SE replacement to Face ID, or keep the current SE as is for several more years? There are big downsides to either. If they do the former, that’ll make it more expensive to produce, and likely have the same lower yields we’re seeing reported. With the latter, the phone will fall further and further behind current tech.

I’m very interested to see how this resolves.

As usual pages and pages of knee jerk reactions to an analysts hypotesis vs fact from Apple.

Most would be happy for the SE to get latest cpu and redesign.

Has nobody thought just how ludicrous this analysts statement is?

In the USA alone, there are over 3million that are considered legally blind, blind or born blind. Many use cellphones or smartphones. Tactile feedback especially for unlocking the phone, payments and other functions will be critical. Has Apple highlighted any accessibility features and changes in iPhone X?! I’ve not seen anything which leads me to think this model is a technology front. Soon will trickle yes trickle down in time not in less than 1yr after not being able to produce enough for 40million in 2mths.

Sensibilities peeps where is it going here?

First FaceID related feature has been in place in Android for sometime hence others embracing this technology is not even a question. Also, Apple implemented 3D touch which has been completely ignored by major players. We never know whether others would pursue this 3D face id feature so much to ignore touch Id(or fingerprint sensor) technology.

From my experience browsing any forums that you can read something about Apple, you will always find people mentioning either Android, Google, Samsung, etc. This happens all the time, as they are companies that compete with one another. I find it quite humorous with all of the folks saying how iconic, and remarkable the notch is. Yet if Samsung or any other manufacturer used the iPhone X notch this year, you would hear these same people complain about how ugly and unappealing the notch is. Personally, I feel the eyesore design is hideous on any device, whether is be iPhone X or Essential Phone. A display is supposed to be immersive, not distracting. Any cut out will obstruct the display, as well as take up usable screen estate.

Half the time I unlock my phone before it's even pointed at my face. This just feels like an inconvenient compromise for not having a good place for a fingerprint scanner.
And how many times do you interact with an unlocked phone (in a way that requires the phone to be unlocked) without looking at the screen? The point is that there is no advantage to having the phone being unlocked before you look at the screen, you only unlock a phone to do something that requires looking at the phone anyway.

Amazing how Face ID has so many haters... when nobody's actually tried it yet!
Same way there are so many users vouching for its ease of use, simplicity, and speed, although, never ever trying it before. I'm surprised there have not been any videos "leaked" to the net yet, as there are several people walking with the device already. Surprised no one on any forums seem to be a buddy of any of those individuals. If FaceID worked as well as they claim, I'm sure there would be leaks all over via videos, personal stories, etc.
