Siri was launched in 2010 and still "isn't great" (British understatement there). Based on that, I don't really have high expectations of the first few releases of the VR headset. Glasses would be awesome though. I think I'll wait a couple more years on this one.
Siri’s greatness is a subjective. I love Siri and maps for what it does and even more for what it doesn’t. I find Google to be intrusive whenever I’m forced to use their services. Hate it!!!

I just moved some large @** Dell monitors this morning at work. This thing can’t come soon enough so I can just tell clients take Apple Goggles with you please. The traditional desktop needs disruption. Thing is it might put me out of a job.

Covid and work from home probably set this back at least a year from the delays it was already experiencing.

"One thing I wanted to say is, don’t be fooled by the internet. It’s cool to get on the computer, but don’t let the computer get on you. It’s cool to use the computer, don’t let the computer use you. Y’all saw The Matrix. There’s a war going on. The battlefield’s in the mind. And the prize is the soul. So just be careful. Be very careful. Thank you."

I know with the rumors and tracking this thing is likely going to happen, but for the life of me, I don’t understand it. Apples’ ‘Game’ presence is mostly mobile, small (profitable) games. I don’t see this being better than ps vr2. So if not games… what?

now a AR headset, glasses with screens, with data overlays, that’s a vision I can see. maps, nav, local store info.. the episode of black mirror but removable. I’d drop 3k on those. But goggles? I just don’t see myself walking around in the world with these, and I don’t see them as great for work…I will need one hell of a demo to get on board, and I’m definitely an early adopter.

Everything is delayed with Apple now days, also the whole wait and get it right doesn’t work because months of beta testing and still full of bugs software is never ok
How long have you been using Apple gear? This has always been true, the general accepted wisdom for literally decades has been “dont buy a first revision apple product if you value stability or long term support”. If anything it’s gotten better

I can't believe we are still talking about total BS 💩 from a so-called insider who doesn't know his backside from a hole in the ground. This is nothing but vaporware IMO....
There’s evidence to support he’s likely right though, from job listings to leaks on OS naming to supply chain leaks to hints on VR/AR from exec interviews to etc. It may never be released (though I personally think it will) but Apple’s definitely been working on something in this space

Hopefully this will give me enough time to save up for it. Already planning too many big purchases for the first half of the year.

I wonder if they will release limited models to developers at WWDC with a wider launch in the autumn? But that would be kinda weird for a brand new product class.

How times have changed since the first iPhone days.
Back then — the press didn’t have a clue about what was going to change the world - until SJ unveiled it.

Nowadays we hear about delays of a product nobody has ever seen - one year in advance
I followed rumors on this site about the iPhone for about two years before it was launched. I was in college and able to save up for the 8GB model. Finally registered an account here a couple days before launch.

flop goes the goggles. Apple is probably still deciding if they want anything to do with this. Not quite as dumb as the apple car but close.
I was thinking that image MacRumors uses looks too much like its a close cousin of the AirPods Max.

Note the AR designs from Magic Leap

If you want something to look different the above example below looks a lot more like what Apple would be up to.

Check out their web site, and think different.

$3599 I say.
Thats fairly close to their competition. Look at the prices for Magic Leap 2 from their online store
List USD $3,299.00 to $4,999.00
Given the medical usage they pitch along with business uses, its not going to be a tech toy.

Hardware delays might be able to be verified, but software? Regardless, the iPhone was first announced in January 2007 and not released until June — didn’t seem to hurt sales.

They will need to get this product in the hands of developers well in advance, and they can’t expect that photos of the product wouldn’t leak, so I’m assuming they show it off before this happens. They could have a U1 chip built-in to make sure the device doesn’t start traveling, but the device could be locked to only one specific developer as well.

Anyone want to guess the price?

$2999
$2,499. Plus $499 for the Solo Headband, or $599 for the Sport Headband, or $699 for the Braided Sport Headband. Or if you have money to burn, $799 for the Nike Headband and $999 for the Product Red Headband.

Very unlikely. Apple is consumer device producer. Except for Mac Pro, Apple Studio Display XDR, the golden Apple Watch Series 1 and some other exceptions throughout the years, all Apple products are priced for the mass market. If the headset is aimed to be groundbreaking product and Apple's bet on future of technology, they cannot price it out of the reach for the vast majority of their target public. Anything above 1400$ would be a niche product in terms of sales volume, and Apple doesn't make money out of niche products. My guess is something in the range of 799-899$ for the base product, and 1199$ for a pack with some very nice to have accessories. If we take Apple historical price strategy with new products such as the iPhone, the iPad, the Apple Watch, the Air Pods, it always a bit more expensive of the next best in class product currently in the market but it is not more expensive that the existing professional-grade products. If Apple wants to charge anyone 3599$ for their VR/AR headset, it should be some jaw-dropping product and I don't think the state of technology in terms of semiconductors, displays and batteries is available for this kind of product. IMO Apple will be very aggressive with its pricing strategy in order to reach as much consumer as possible in order to bring the VR/AR experience to the masses.
